Defense In Chicago A Must
Check out the Chicago section. With Thibs in, I feel he can bring back what was most important back in the glory days: defense. I am going for a leap of faith and picking Joakim for DPOY..What do you think?

This is why I think Brewer should absolutely be starting
I’d rather have the perimeter players act as part of the second unit and set the tone with defense. Defense, ball movement, and running. I think with Noah, Boozer, Deng, Brewer and Rose you have your best chance of doing that.
Obviously the 2nd unit won’t just come in at once for all 5 starters, but even if that situation occurred, I am not afraid to trust a lead to a unit with Watson, Korver, Bogans, Taj and Asik. The front court will still be strong defensively while Watson creates and Korver (and to a lesser extent Bogans) shoot from the perimeter.
Okay, went off on another tangent. I hope we get a Rudy or some sort of play-making scorer. But I want Brewer starting.

Noah wont be DPOY
But he will be rebounding leader and damn good at defense.

If the Bulls are a top 5 defense and win 50+ games
then Noah will definitely have a shot. Like any other award in the NBA, team success and notoriety will play a huge part.

likea ny other award in the NBA, it doesn't go to who deserves it and instead to the 3rd or 4th most deserving with the best reputation.
Dwight Howard DPOY, there he goes.

yeah. howard has that thing locked in
Look at bowen. Best wing defender for so many of those spurs teams. Never once got dpoy
from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"
I’m pretty sure Dwight deserves it.
Really some players if they’re going for like 20-30 points and are making a significant difference defensively I don’t have a problem with them winning it.
"Well you're giving me the opportunity to agree with Bill Plaschke and Marriotti, I'm gonna pass" - Tim Cowlishaw
i have no problem with dwight winning it
but i just think the voting for that award is biased towards people who are making highlight reel blocks than actual man to man lock down defenders and imo man to man lock down defenders need to have their names in the race too.
the award almost always goes to some ridiculous shot blocker who is pretty bad at man to man defense.
from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"
except Dwight is a good man to man defender

he is…. but even if he has a down season, based purely on the virtue of his name & highlight blocks, he’s gonna win by default… or end up with another shot blocking big…
The award is skewed towards big men… You don’t ever see guys like Bowen, Battier & Artest in the conversation despite their reps as great defensive players or their performance..
Is it October yet?
Just so I never have to answer this again. I'm from Singapore so whenever you see me online, I'm either sleep deprived or just waking up.
That's because big men make much more of an impact defensively than perimeter players.
Pat Riley is the devil.
Exactly.

well then shouldnt it be defensive impact relative to position? otherwise
only bigs should win, in which case its not a very interesting or informative designation.
"If I was to answer that question honestly, I would have to lie to you."
- Isiah Thomas, when asked if any teams were interested in trading for Shandon Anderson
Yes he did.
But it seems like its a very long time since then.
"Boozer's dumbass dunked, so i dunked on his dumbass"- Joakim Noah
Damn good would be a vast improvement in itself,
Noah’s defense last year was a little over hyped, he was average on D, but a great rebounder, both offensively and defensively.
by BigBabyCollin on Aug 21, 2010 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions
He was slightly above average on man-to-man D overall
but he was definitely above average on team defense.

fair enough,
he did work well in our overall scheme, but in my own opinion, he really isn’t a serious candidate for DPOY, granted my opinion means nothing,

God damn
I would be so happy if Noah became prime Ben Wallace with a much better offense.

You mean a world-class defender who pulled down 15 boards a game in his prime?
Why is that bad? Plus Noah is a much much better offensive player.

Even if the Bulls get to the 5th best defense in the league, they are probably still only going to win about 50 games.
That offense is going to be an anchor around their necks all year.

An 85-81 win is better than a 103-98 loss...let's wait.

A 95-85 win is better than both.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
A win is a win.
Who cares if we blow someone out or win by 1. As long as you’re not losing, you’re fine. Unless you’re King Pyrrhus.
"Did Michael Jordan join the Pistons when he couldn't beat them? No. He dug down deep and went out and kicked their fucking ass."
I don't think the possibility of a strong offense is so foregone:
Utah is a great example of a team that pushed the pace, did not shoot a lot of threes, but scored inside and used good defense to win games. We will have a real half-court offense, a couple new players who can get to the line, improvements from Rose, Noah and hopefully Deng. If the Bulls can shoot 1200-50 threes, make 36% of them, be in the top 10 (or hopefully 5) in pace and get to the line more while using Thibs defensive dust, they will definitely be a 50 win team.
I am hoping for a top 5 defense and an offense in the 18-12 range (who knows why those arbitrary numbers).

We didn't get new players that get to the line. Korver is awful at it. Watson doesn't get to the line much.
Boozer doesn’t get to the line any more than Taj and much less than Tyrus did. Brewer doesn’t get to the line that often for a guy who is always around the basket.

by fundamentallysound on Aug 22, 2010 5:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Noah is already one of the best defensive centers in the league,
and Deng is very close to elite. Boozer, Taj, and Brewer are consistent defenders and Rose has clearly improved watching him play with team USA as well. I actually think that Boozer is an underrated defensive player who gets criticism often more rooted punditry than reality. If Thibs lives up to his pedigree, we should be getting ready for some great battles in the Eastern conference (you know, making our way past Orlando, Boston or NYC so that we can be beaten by the Heat…anyone hoping for Lebron to try the NFL?)

Boozer is good at boxing out his man and plays solid individual post defense. He's just rubbish at all the team aspects of D.
Doesn’t help or rotate well at all. Terrible at protecting the paint. Luckily, that’s what Noah excels at.
