Carlos Boozer in the TOP 10 MVP List
What a surprise. Another surprise is that Derrick Rose is not on this short list.

I love Boozer
but anyone that has him ahead of Derrick Rose on a list like this, just is not paying attention
Superteams suck.

Yeh what the shit do the NBA know about basketball anyways
I bet they just heard about the Heat and jumped on the basketball bandwagon.

If you read the (lame) text that accompanies the list,
they’re basically admitting that people will roll their eyes reading this, and they’re also saying that the people writing this need to do something over the summer to justify their existence.
Of course, the list is still way off…
"It’d be ridiculous to hate someone for simply what they say in a sports blog. But I greatly dislike every syllable of your angst-filled, smarmy, nondescript, half-assed, elitist-garbage responses." –Rogerspark Kris
That's ridiculous. Boozer is better than Derrick Rose right now.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
That's not the point
Boozer is about as good as he is going to get and he hasn’t been near an MVP yet. Rose should be ahead of Boozer just because of potential to explode to that caliber.
"Mental toughness is to physical as four is to one." - Bob Knight
Really? How is that?
He’s good but you wouldn’t trade Boozer straight up for Rose right now. Nor I doubt you would trade a 25 year old Boozer for Rose right now.
That's irrelevant.
You could argue that at this very moment, Rose is in fact better than Boozer. I don’t know if I’d agree, but that would be an acceptable line of argument. Whether or not you’d trade one for the other is an entirely different measurement.
I'm predicting that Kobe ends up winning it
But Durant and Howard will both end up being more deserving.

alas! i can only rec once.
DRose Nicknames: Blur, Air Apparent, His Heirness, Shade ( an arch rival of the Flash ).
i think durant is the only realistic challenge to kobe at this point
howard still needs an offensive game of some sort besides dunks imo before he gets serious consideration
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
I think KD is a beast
but Howard is such a monster on the defensive end and on the glass that he deserves more consideration I think people over look his numbers when it comes to MVP voting
by bdasilva7785 on Aug 2, 2010 11:27 PM CDT up reply actions
Until Howard becomes the 1st option on offense
It likely will never happen. In too many games (which is not to say most games) he is an offensive liability. You foul him when he gets the ball and he is not close enough to the basket then you are basically chancing a guy getting 1 point or 0 points. Howard is almost more of an offensive decoy for the Magic perimeter game.
by Dr. Handsome, D.D.S. on Aug 2, 2010 11:31 PM CDT up reply actions
agreed
this is the exact point i was trying to make.
hes obviously a monster defensively but kd has a better all around game.
and howard has yet to show he can carry a team offensively.
at least shaq dominated 95% of a game until the last 2 minutes or so when people started fouling
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
I agree his offensive game needs work
but defensively his numbers are good enough even without an offensive game to be considered for an mvp
by bdasilva7785 on Aug 2, 2010 11:42 PM CDT up reply actions
theres a reason they give out a defensive player of the year award
i dont tink they should be giving MVP awards to a guy who can only dominate one end of the court.
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
so what does that mean?
If they gave an offensive player of the year award durant, and kobe would never win mvp because they dominate one end of the court? Your arguement makes no sense.
by bdasilva7785 on Aug 3, 2010 12:33 AM CDT up reply actions
Howard already is the 1st option on offense
And I don’t mind offensive liabilities that still drop 20 a game with a .600 TS%. Howard’s a bad FT shooter, but he isn’t horrible enough where fouling him over and over is a good thing (like it can be with Shaq). Howard’s a career 60% FT shooter, meaning if you foul him every time, the Magic will average 1.2 points per possession, which would make them far and away the most efficient offensive team in the league.
Pat Riley is the devil.

He is not the first option on offense.
He gets a huge chunk of his points off of putbacks, alley-oops and dunks. Vince and Nelson both get more shots via their scheme, IMO.
He’s awesome, but he’s not good enough offensively to be the first option.
Durant's the best scorer in the league
but he does nothing else at a spectacular level. I personally think that a healthy CP3 and Howard are better.
by Stacey_Is_King on Aug 2, 2010 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions
howard does nothing but defense though
if cp3 ever got back to his old form yeah id agree definitely but i think kd offers so much more right now
hes probably the best scorer
his defense is rapidly improving.
his rebounding numbers have improved every year.
i like his all around game and i think its just much more MVP like than howard
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
"howard does nothing but defense though"
The man averages 20 ppg for fuck’s sake! Are you people kidding?
Pat Riley is the devil.
by Poloplaya14 on Aug 3, 2010 12:17 AM CDT up reply actions 4 recs
Thats besides the point
Even if he scored 10 ppg he is so dominant on the glass and on the defensive end he should still be considered for the MVP
by bdasilva7785 on Aug 3, 2010 12:36 AM CDT up reply actions
Agreed
But his offensive contributions are also so underrated it’s ridiculous.
Pat Riley is the devil.
yeah but his 20ppg are like 90% gimme baskets. he really sucks at just scoring on his own in the post
I just find his offensive game too limited for him to be an mvp candidate
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
The fact that he gets that many gimme baskets is what makes him really good.
It’s not like he lucks into that.
Pat Riley is the devil.
its because an entire system is built around having so many shooters that you have to leave him at some point
its not like hes getting himself in good position. hes never in good post position to catch a pass or receive. he just pretty much stands there and expects someone to lob it in to him or near him.
watch how he plays and watch how boston shut him down. they realized how bad he is on offense.
im sorry but gettiing beat by kendrick perkins is pretty embarassing for someone who is considered the best center in the league right now. it shows you how bad his defense is.
you can see the clear difference between shaq (in his mvp days) vs dwight now
shaq was great at getting in position to score and dominate on the offensive end because of it. not only did he get gimmes but he also set up in great position in the post to receive passes.
dwight is just so limited on offense imo. he still relies way too much on pure athleticism instead of actually trying to develop a post game.
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
by sin on Aug 3, 2010 1:24 AM CDT up reply actions
He's actually really good at getting low-post position
He just has mediocre footwork when he actually catches the ball and a limited set of moves. He definitely could be a lot better offensively, and he’s certainly nowhere near as good as Shaq in his prime, but he’s still really good offensively because he’s so freakishly athletic.
And despite what you say about him getting beat by Kendrick Perkins and shut down by Boston, Howard actually averaged 21.8 ppg and10.8 rpg in the Boston series. Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis were the ones who got shut down.
Pat Riley is the devil.
He is flawed on offence but the statement that you made
" howard does nothing but defend" Is a bit off .. Because the guy isnt great in the post doesnt mean that he sucks on defence. Its not like 20 PPG on 60% feild goal shooting is coming from lucky baskets
They're gimme because he's so strong and quick, he's left everyone in his dust!!!
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

"90% are gimmie baskets"
Who cares?!? He makes them thats all that matters!
"Boozer's dumbass dunked, so i dunked on his dumbass"- Joakim Noah
I wish we could have a player that could score 20 ppg on 90% "gimme" baskets.

That's ridiculous.
He’s a really good rebounder and a really good defender.

Pfft
‘Really good’ isn’t ‘spectacular’ in my book. Paul is a better playmaker, scores almost as efficiently, and is equal in defense, if not ahead. Also, Paul has already shown that he can carry a team to playoff wins, unlike Durant. I’m not going to justify why Howard’s better, because in my eyes it’s clear.
He’s a top 10 player because of his scoring, and because he’s above average at everything else except playmaking. That’s that.

I think LeBron actually has a legit chance of winning again.
They may end up with the best record and I see LeBron averaging a triple double as a legit possibility especially since he mentioned how wanting to do that was one reason he wanted to play with wade and bosh.
by Uncle Stanley McGoober on Aug 3, 2010 5:41 AM CDT reply actions
he could as they probably will have the best record
tho everytime they played together, Wade played better than LBJ

D. Wade
Will win MVP leading HIS TEAM to greatness, he’ll average 20-11-4 and nearly 1.5 blocks….
2010-2011: I put the Scottie-Barkley Rockets feud curse on the Wade-James-Bosh trio.....

Why is STAT on the list,
the Knicks still will suck, lets see how he’ll like running the PNR w/ Felton, I don’t think his presence alone will make the Knicks relavent.
with Raps and Cavs weak
NY will look a bit better. And Amare will be their best player.

Honestly Howard is spectacular at blocked shots, not a great DEFENDER. Was Mutombo ever a MVP candidate in his prime(when he was scoring around 16/a game)? I don’t think so, so why should Howard?
because mutombo only averaged 16 a game in his rookie year
not to mention his fg% was 49% while howard last year averaged over 18 a game and his fg% was over 61% and dwight averaged 1 more rebound per game last season then mutombo did that same season. Mutombo was a nba great but dwight deserves his recognition and saying thats why they give a defensive player of the year trophy is a poor excuse for not giving someone an mvp trophy
I forgot to mention...
only 2 guys have won both an mvp and roy award in the same season they are Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld… Mutombo wasnt at that level of domination
That, and Howard is actually an excellent defender.
The best in the league at any position. His one weakness is that he fouls too much, but you could say that for pretty much any good defensive big man except Ben Wallace. Plus, blocks are a big part of being a great defender when you’re 7 feet tall.
