'Winning' and 'Friends': Bulls step up marketing efforts with new season tix commercials
Upon seeing these two videos (via destroyed fanshot: it went out a hero) I thought they were fan-created.
But they're official: Bulls commercials advertising Bulls tickets featuring Bulls players. It's been two years of the 'Love it Live' lame campaign, so this is a welcome change.
Not sure if there will be more in the future, but starting with Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah seems right. I hope either of those two kids can make captain this year!
Videos after the jump.

I did forget they had a sorta-campaign last year
highlighting the greatest first round series loss ever, with weird re-dubbed commentary. But it was still love it live for the most part.

Really hope
the captains are Rose, Noah, Boozer.
What happens to our leadership without Captain Klank?! Will the Bulls survive?!
Deng/Boozer/Noah: All your rebound are belong to us.
Okay, that Noah commercial absolutely rules.

Isn't that kinda the point of every team's marketing campaign?
Superteams suck.
by Juiceboxjerry on Aug 18, 2010 12:51 AM CDT up reply actions
Well, I'm not quite sure what you mean by:
advertising that they’re the team everyone’s after
Does that mean you think that they’re advertising them as a team that nobody likes or a team that is gonna be really good? If it’s the former, I can kinda understand your point. They’re not really a team that people fear or dislike. If it’s the latter, well, that’s basically every marketing campaign in the league. Teams sell the possibility of being really good, either now, or in the future.
I used to see (still do sometimes) other teams promotional commercials on NBA TV, and most of them are laughable (the bad teams). In fact, the last couple years, the Bulls haven’t even really been pushing the team, or it’s players (as yfbb mentioned), they’ve sold the United Center atmosphere with the whole “Love It Live!” thing. This is the first commercial from them that I’ve seen in some time that really pushed the players and the team.
In this case, I don’t even think they’re trying to sell that the team is gonna be really good, which is what I think you’re trying to say. It’s just a couple short videos with players that the fans love, accompanied by their own cool quotes, and some highlights. I don’t see where they are making any bold proclamations. Did I miss something?
Superteams suck.
by Juiceboxjerry on Aug 18, 2010 1:45 AM CDT up reply actions
Well, isn't that basically true?
Rose and Noah do care about winning, and they don’t really seem to care about the haters. I don’t think that anywhere in either video you can say that they’re making it seem like they’ll be world beaters (like the Heat are built up to be). They’re just selling the players personalities. And they’re using their own quotes to do it. I still don’t understand what you mean…
Superteams suck.

In other words, where in either video do they make it sound like they'll be a "great team"?
Theses videos are essentially like every other Noah or Rose mix you see on Youtube.
Superteams suck.
by Juiceboxjerry on Aug 18, 2010 2:01 AM CDT up reply actions
But these are commercials, not youtube fan made videos
The team looks like they’re advertising a team that is hated for being really good or something.
Most fans around the league don’t mind the Bulls at all.
I guess I just don't see what you're seeing.
They’re advertising the players’ winning personalities, I don’t understand what’s wrong with that. If it was the Nets or something, maybe I could see your point. Does every team have to be as good as the Lakers or Heat to promote their team? I mean, barring disaster, we should be pretty damn good this year, our players deserve to be pumped up a little bit, don’t they?
Superteams suck.
by Juiceboxjerry on Aug 18, 2010 2:37 AM CDT up reply actions
One commercial has Derrick saying "All he cares about is winning"
And “Not getting triple doubles or anything”
And then Noah in his own commercial is saying things like, “how he doesn’t need friends and doesn’t mind being hated”
It’s like a big FUCK YOU MIAMI.
Or their own way of trying to convince the fans that they’re the bad boys of the NBA
GOOD!
lol, what are they supposed to do, have a commercial where they say “We’re gonna be good, but we’re still not as good as the Heat or Lakers”? I mean, these are actual postgame quotes from these guys. It’s not like the Bulls put them up to it, it’s really how they feel.
It’s the very reason we like Rose and Noah, and are excited about the season. The Bulls recognize that, and are selling the city on that type of attitude. It’s marketing 101. And if the message is indeed, “FUCK YOU MIAMI” (which I don’t think it is), I like it that much more now.
Superteams suck.
by Juiceboxjerry on Aug 18, 2010 2:47 AM CDT up reply actions 3 recs
yea I don't see it either
The commercials go hand in hand though. I think most people (Chicagoans included) didn’t like Noah to begin with. They show his highlights to tell/remind people otherwise and in turn make them kinda feel bad about having previously felt that way. Then when you watch the Rose commercial and pair it with the Noah commercials its kind of like the “you don’t wanna miss out on this.”
It really plays the emotions, I never thought about Miami once, I think if they wanted to say F YOU MIAMI, they woulda used Noah’s “its gonna be real hollywood down there quote” in some manner
No offense man, but...who cares?
by Stacey_Is_King on Aug 18, 2010 7:50 AM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
i don't get how it relates to miami
rose – basically promoting winning and the team over personal stats…a good thing in it’s own right
noah – if you don’t think people dislike him you’re living in a protective BaBubble. There have been anti-noah fans long before anyone hated miami
I see it as just 'team on the rise' stuff
they did it before, remember ‘everything can change in the blink of an eye’ with the original Baby Bulls?

They're airing Game 6 of Bulls/Celtics right now on ESPN Classic right now, in case anyone is interested
Just to prove how awesome that game was, there’s still over an hour left of the show (NBA’s Greatest Games) and the fourth quarter just ended

God dammit
I don’t get ESPNCL anymore.

This is sweet
Bulls ads have been so bad that up until meow the only decent one from before was the “through thick n’ thin” ones, where they promoted going to games to watch Kobe and KG.
I'm cuckoo for Kukoc!!!
by Yibs on Aug 18, 2010 8:06 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
that one was pretty awful
anything featuring the fans is awful, IMO.
I liked the ‘everything can change’ thing (even though it turned out to be a disaster on the court). ‘Larger than Life’ was pretty good with the billboards. And Norm in the barbershop was pretty good, though they also referenced the opposing teams a bit too much.

Oh.. I was talking about Norm in the barbershop.
Was that not part of the thick and thin dealy? maybe not… I forgot about larger than life.. That was awful.
I'm cuckoo for Kukoc!!!
yeah, I got confused
the ‘thick and thin’ was Norm, and it did talk about Kobe, etc.
There was one a few years before that was asking fans-on-the-street ‘why bulls tickets?’ and one of the answers was so they could see other stars the league. Man that blew.

Do you think they'll vote on captains again this year?
Or do you think Thibs will appoint them. I know some teams vote and some appoint. Is it about half-and-half or is it that one is greater than the other. I forget.
I hope he appoints them. I don’t need politicking and then hurt feelings or anything.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
Watch Thomas be a captain

Yes! I was trying to think of a veteran to co-exist with Deng
Deng and Thomas. Perfect. Vinny would’ve considered that.
I can imagine Paxson doodling & writing while in his office with the door closed, trying to hide his thoughts from Gar...

Maybe the new group of players don’t select Deng as a co-captain?

they've been appointed through VDN and Skiles
though maybe that’s just a coincidence. I prefer appointing too, sure it’d be nice if everyone recognized Rose and Noah as the captains, but maybe they’re not the locker room force we believe them to be. Plus Rose is humble-bot.

The best ad campaign ever was during the lean years of 1999-2002 when they just blatantly promoted other teams' star players.
DANIEL HUDSON SUCKS. HOWS THAT GUN BAN WORKING FOR YOU MAYOR DALLY
I <3 Noah.
Those are two fantastic spots. “I wanna go HIIIIGHER!!!”
Yeah. They’ll sell tickets this year, no doubt. Wikipedia says the stadium capacity, including standing room, is 23,129. My prediction, they will pack at least 25,000 into the Center for both of those games. And probably for the Lakers game as well. And sell out every game to the 22,000 level.
Gonna be a FUN year to be a Bulls fan _
lolwhut?

Both of those are great.
Much better than the ones the last two seasons.
A lovely story:
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who didn't whine, nag or bitch. That would be me....
But that was a long time ago and it was just that one day.
The end
