A Clippers fan asking about Vinny

I'm a dedicated basketball fan and in particular a fan of the Los Angeles Clippers

We recently signed your old coach VDN which I wasn't to fond of orginally because his competitor was Dwane Casey, the Dallas Mavericks assistant coach.  I preferred casey over VDN because of his knowledge of the game and his offensive schemes.  Point being I shouldn't really hate on a coach that got his team to the NBA playoffs two years in a row.

I wanted to get a perspective from you guys, Bulls fans, because who would know more about VDN than the team'ss fans.  I would appreciate if the blog a bulls citizens respectfully gave me their opinions of his offensive/defensive schemes and over all coaching quality.  Thanks and good luck tomorrow!

This is a very good analysis...

and a fair analysis at that. I was extremely critical of VND for his mistakes, but the front office certainly didn’t do him any favors.

One point I would add in regards to the Bull’s front office is after VDN was here for about 2 months I think their opinion turned on him. If it were not for the incredible Boston series, he very well may have been fired in year one. VDN’s rookie year was pretty awful.

The most publicized front office/VDN conflict was a physical confrontation between VDN and Pax at the end of last season. It is still a little hazy as to what actually occurred, but the reason for it was VDN playing Noah despite having an explicit order not to play him due to his foot problems.

I thought...

It was that he didn’t play him when a game went to overtime because he was told to limit his minutes and Noah had already played too many.

He was told to limit the minutes, he did so, then got yelled at for limiting them. Am I missremembering this? I may have pre-deceived notions…

There were snarky reports out there...

That VDN sold them on defensive intensity first and foremost, and what we remember from year one, that was not exactly what he got his team to deliver on the court. Year two, the mantra from the offseason on was defense first, and the team actually responded by playing above average defense.

My point is that VDN is a good interview. He picked up on the things that your front office values (I AM CHEAP!) and sold that to them in the interview…where Casey was probably a little more straightforward (speculation).

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

Waht about BG?
didn’t have one reliable 3 point shooter.

Vinny wasn’t the worst coach. Still, the only good things you can say about him is just damning with faint praise.

It will be found an unjust and unwise jealousy to deprive a man of his natural liberty upon the supposition he may abuse it.

We may give VDN a hard stick but only because he’s had more than a few growing pains and led us to a fair share of facepalms with his rookie mistakes.

I’d like to think he’s learned from them and he probably has. Considering what he did here considering what he had in the cupboard (other than Rose), I’m willing to call VDN’s tenure here a mild success.

In terms of player development, he’s not going to do a lot. But he’s a premier motivator and I’m willing to stake that was what finally got Noah to be what he is today.

You guys got a decent coach there. He’s far from the finished product but he’ll turn out well. Hopefully Stirling gives him a fair shake.

Is it October yet?

Just so I never have to answer this again. I'm from Singapore so whenever you see me online, I'm either sleep deprived or just waking up.
