Damn, I can't imagine the threads I'll have to schedule for tomorrow night. Remember, Bulls do have a max slot preserved (barring no 'cap'tastrophe in the figures, hahaha) for LeBron if he wants it.

What's your thoughts on the richness of the contract?

Obviously it will be back loaded and a 33yr old boozer is not worth 18 million, but 20 million less than Amare… not bad, right?

I met one of Hinrich's Professor's at Kansas, but he never met Hinrich.

For real.

You can’t complain about striking out in FA and overpaying dudes at the same time.

by CrashDavis on Jul 7, 2010 4:55 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Boozer today is only overpaid if he

Has the phantom injury bugs that he had in Utah, if healthy he’s pretty darn good, a legit post player (Bosh isn’t even a true post player)…..it’ll be great to have that major hole fixed.

Now if we can just get Lebron and a shooter (S&T Deng, our 2011 first round pick, the Charlotte Option for 2012 allowing us to trade 2 first round picks, and throw in Taj Gibson unfortunately), we’ll still have max money or thereabouts to pick up shooters and fill the roster.

ROSE-?-Lebron-Boozer-Noah with $15M to fill int he roster and the who knows on James Johnson….is still perhaps the best team in the league even with a SG by committee (which we could afford)…..

Come on Lebron….

I've just been in cap-focused mode for so long

that I can’t escape it. I agree, but I am secretly ecstatic that he didn’t break the bank.

It’s relieving, for me, to know Atlanta paid 40 million more for a contract that was only one year longer.

I met one of Hinrich's Professor's at Kansas, but he never met Hinrich.

People would have talked themselves into 100 million for Amare no problem.

This isn’t any worse.

"Boozer's dumb ass jumped. So I dunked on his ass."-Joakim Noah

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2010 4:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Absolutely....

Boozer starting at $80 M >>>>> Amare at $100 M
Boozer has had nagging injuries, Amare has had three potentially career ending injuries.

by streamsowhiskey on Jul 7, 2010 4:57 PM CDT up reply actions

aaannnd....

Boozer @ $80M + Taj if he goes down >>>>> Amare @ $100M & (crickets chirping)….If LBJ (whose self promotion is hella lame, but he’s still the best player in the league not named Kobe) wants to win, Imean seriously…we could still trade Deng and get a solid 8 man rotation (please let it be to Portland for Przybilla Fernandez and Bayless)

by streamsowhiskey on Jul 7, 2010 5:01 PM CDT up reply actions

you think kobe is the best player in the league? uh, why?

Cashing checks and having sex. Also doing some light medical diagnoses.

by MarketMaker on Jul 7, 2010 5:07 PM CDT up reply actions

man..

I bet you if Boozer waited someone would have paid him more than we did, but he knows he has a chance to play with LBJ next season and win it all so he committed early and at a price where the Bulls could still offer LeBron a max contract..that’s what I’m talkin’ bout C Booz! LBJ coming to Chi-town next!

by Matt93 on Jul 7, 2010 4:45 PM CDT reply actions

Lest we forget

He actually wants to play for a team that has Rose and other good pieces.

Maybe Boozer was always smarter than we though.

There kept being reports that he was laying low to cash in… but this contract doesn’t seem that rich. Could it be that the Bulls knew there was a good chance either he or Bosh would bring LeBron to Chicago, but we wanted the better player?

I met one of Hinrich's Professor's at Kansas, but he never met Hinrich.

by Another Afflicted Chicago Fan on Jul 7, 2010 4:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Of all the players

Boozer might be the only one to appreciate the impact that a major market and great point guard will have on his career.

People criticize Boozer for how he left the Cavs, but the reports are that his Jazz contract was 25 million more for the same number of years. Who in their right mind passes that up?

So…gotta say it: this sort of vindicates the Ben Gordon thing.

Well the decision is pretty clearly set up for Lebron now

1. Stay at home in Cleveland, win 60 games and watch your teammates decline
2. Go to Miami, win some titles and watch your personal brand decline
3. Go to NY, hope they make some player moves, and watch your celebrity rise (but if they don’t win the brand won’t do much)
4. Go to NJ and see what the Bulls were like before Rose
5. Go to Chicago and become the Man, have a great team already around you, win multiple championships, watch the brand and celebrity grow.

I may be a little biased though

Boozer relies on skill and savvy and positioning

not freakish athleticism. His game has staying power as long as he stays healthy. That’s obviously something has has to prove.

But we finally have a legit low post scoring threat, one who can play with his back to the basket. Let’s get some shooters and win the Central.

disagree with this back to the basket assessment

boozer can definitely post up a smaller defender, but most times he doesn’t have that luxury as an undersized pf.

ran high pick’n’roll with d williams, like majority of current league does. got lots of high % shots in the paint in sloan’s offense, let’s hope it continues here.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people think Orlando would trade him.

He’s been a great backup player, and even stepped up his game when Carter went out with an injury. At the Orlando blog, they mention that he “could” be considered as part of a trade package, but it seemed unlikely.

by The BBQ Chicken Madness on Jul 7, 2010 6:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Redick and Mike Miller

Both shoot over 40% from 3PT which we desperately need. Either can start at SG (Redick starts against smaller, quicker guards and Miller against more physical ones). Miller is also your insurance policy at SF for when Deng gets hurt.

by pooriejay on Jul 7, 2010 5:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Why not

Low ball RJ hope to get him at a $5M per for 4 yrs (I seriously don’t get why he’d bail out of $15M, what was he thinking).

Then I’d go after Mike Miller, Morrow, Reddick, Korver perhaps 2 of them.

Then I’d go after Luke Ridnour for our backup PG (seriously why did Orlando go with Duhon over RIdnour….)?

Mentoring aspect

Not to make this all about LeBron, but I also love the Boozer signing and how it will Benefit Noah. Boozer is an elite post player in this league and he’ll be able to teach Noah a thing or two along the way. This deal will pay dividends to several players on the team, not just add an incremental 20-10 every night. (Which isn’t a bad thing for $75 Mil by the way)

3 Things To Give Bulls Fans Hope

1) Bulls camp has been dead quiet. This is likely why you have way more rumors about other teams’ chances. The bulls simply aren’t giving up information to report about.

2) Boozer’s signing leaves just enough money for a Lebron signing. Hmmmmm.

3) A growing theory is that there’s a disinformation campaign coming out of LeBron’s camp. It’s the only way to battle the few people tattletailing to the media about Lebron’s true destination. Chad Ford said on the score an hour ago that so many people he knows are getting so much conflicting information that it’s smelling more and more like a disinformation campaign. So all these “he’s definitely going here or there” rumors are actually strategically placed rumors from LeBron’s camp.

But I tend to think that Bosh and Wade in Miami fails to improve Miami very much. I mean, they still have garbage players all around them. If they don’t also get LeBron they’re possibly no better off seed-wise next year. Plus, something makes me think that Bosh might end up like Jermaine O’Neal there…he’s got his money now, what’s his incentive to play his ass off now? They subtract lee and add Amare to a 29 win team? Even with some improvement from Gallo and another signing or two they aren’t going to win more than 40 games.

tomorrow’s TV extravaganza will be renamed LeBronandBoozahLalaPalooza to celebrate the running of the NBA’s newest, most exciting superteam, the sporting, snorting, stampeding, fearsome fivesome known as the Chicago Bulls.

D Wade and his wannabe co-star Chris “Twittertoes” Bosh will be shaking in their boots when they realize their diabolical plan to con GarPaxDorf and company has backfired. After this they will have to give away tickets if they expect anyone to watch their 2nd rate reality film “The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Deceit.” After tomorrow the script will have to be rewritten to change the ending from a joyful, triumphant celebration to a tragic, empty, meaningless farce. More Bulls org fumbling

From Henry Abbott:

Wade on considering the Bulls: “I get teared up a little bit thinking about the opportunity I had. … Chicago, that’s my home. That’s where my heart will always be … unfortunately it didn’t work out that I’m in Chicago, but Chicago is my heart. And it will always be. … It was, it was a time where things kind of swinged, and it played on my emotions a lot, because I am a family oriented person and everyone heard the stuff about my kids. That was going to be my final decision. Of course, I want to be just like every man in the world, you want to be the best dad possible. You want to have every moment with your kids.”

Note: Bulls, you have missed an opportunity. Here’s the second-best player in the best free agent class ever saying it’s “unfortunate” he did not get to join your team, and that doing so would have helped him fulfill his role as a father. Also, the Bulls have a much better supporting cast. How did the Bulls fumble this catch? Also, this testimonial is nice to hear for those reporters who said Wade was leaning Bulls a few days ago. Many said they were nuts, but it was good reporting all along.

I think Boozer is a great pick for us.

He is very experienced, has been in quite a few playoff wars and hopefully he will be able to bring in his physical play to the Bulls. He can score 20+ pts and bring down 10+ rebs. With Lebron possibly and maybe a three point shooter in their mixing it up, I think the Bulls are a complete team and will be one of the teams to beat.

All that just for Rip Hamilton?

There would be a gaping hole at SF, though.

HMMMM.

Who’s out there at SF, by the way? Besides the obvious, that is.

can David Lee play the 3?

then the Boozer/Lee debate would be moot.

I’d love for us to go after AK47, though I’m sure the Jazz don’t want to give us their whole team….he expires and has $16.5M. pLUS i think he’s really good (just overpriced)….

Rip Hamilton was good 2003-2008.

Now he maybe done as far as motivation is concerned. Last two years he has been nonexistant, Detroit’s results bare that out! If this was 5-6 years ago, I’d say HELL YES, now I say thanks but no thanks! He might bring something, but he is even older than Boozer and has more mileage. Could be a good outside threat and could take pressure away from Rose and/or LBJ, but can’t see it happening 100%

by BullsFan22 on Jul 7, 2010 5:38 PM CDT reply actions

NO way does Rip need to be on the bulls

He is old, we are a great YOUNG team… we don’t need to take on old ass players..

… the Bulls “bombed” their presentation? Hmmm.

But who’s to say that’s the only contact the FO has had with LeBron and his folks since then?

They could be finalizing something, or they could just be giving the Knicks one more shot before …

You put 5 clams in 5 boxes: Bulls, Cleveland, Heat, Knicks, Nets….whichever one it eats you make Broussard eat the 4 remaining clams.
