BlogABron 7/5 - Nothing is fudged
I get irked reading unnecessary bravado over the Bulls signing everyone, and the unnecessary insecurity over signing nobody stinks too. Nothing's happened!
Well, not entirely true: Amare Stoudemire and Joe Johnson are gone. Fewer options is bad, but those two is a best case of that bad situation.

Things to be happy about
1) The Bulls hired a new coach. It’s true he could be worse than VDN given that he’s a first time head coach. But that’s pretty unlikely, and he could just as easily (if not more easily) be a very good coach. Given how much people wanted VDN gone during the season and a non-hack hiring I think there should be happiness.
2) Kirk got traded, even if it cost the Bulls their first round pick to do so. I’m probably biased against Kirk because his shooting wasn’t good enough to play a drive and kick game with Rose (in fact, his percentage is better than I would have guessed). But still, Kirk was a bad fit for this team even if he was better than I thought. You can’t have that much salary locked up in a guy whose best position on your team is backup point guard. Moving that salary is a sane step towards a better team.
The Bulls have glaring holes at SG and PF. They should be able to fill the PF slot with a FA (preferably Lee but Boozer is better than no one). So even if the perhaps-likely scenario of James-CLE, Bosh,Wade-MIA plays out, the Bulls should be an improved team next year…potentially good enough to beat MIA in the playoffs.
I am not upset about the summer so far…..
don't get me wrong
I’m not saying don’t be upset if they only get 1 FA and it’s not a big-3 one. I’ll be very upset. Just saying wait until that actually happens :)

So the last 3000 comments i read here was for nothing?
Crap!
DEJESUS!!!
I'll be disappointed
But I’m just saying that this summer, the Bulls haven’t pissed me off. Even if the fail to land one of Wade/James/Bosh, they seem to have done a reasonable job to improve the team. This is in marked contrast to the last 2 summers.

only thing that will piss me off is if we gave away Hinrich AND our first for basically scraps to free up cap space that we don’t use

We're undoubtedly going to use it.
Problem we might have to use it on guys like Matt Bonner, Roger Mason Jr, Udonis Haslem, and Tony Allen.
Brad Miller is god.
how can you be pissed about that
you need to realize we’ve been doing this for a few seasons now. shelling out contracts for the goal of having cap space this summer. its just that we did a better job of it since we lucked into rose so our roster looks less gutted.

about #2
while i agree in principle, that trade makes sense only if the bulls manage to sign a max free agent and another very good player. because, right now, we traded away kirk and a possible james anderson for nothing. we got a big hole at the 2 and no backups at guard at all.
at first it looked like that if we didn’t get lebron or wade we could easily offer the max to the second tier, guys like joe johnson, amar’e, even gay or dirk. But these guys already signed because they weren’t sure other offers like that were coming. and boozer and lee could be next. i know that lebron has the right to take all the time in the world to decide, but fuck it, he’s not only screwing cleveland, but all his suitors too.
I have a new theory - Tell me what you think
The length of each team’s presentation to LeBron was hotly debated. But the length of one of those presentations stood out in particular. The Los Angeles Clippers. Their pitch was only about an hour. Now I gave this some thought.
The Clippers knew they were in 6th place as far as LeBron’s choice, but does that mean they would’ve wasted their time with a watered down quick pitch? Of course not. They would’ve gone at it hard like everyone else. Which means that something else probably determined the length of those meetings.
My guess is that the length was determined by questions from LeBron’s camp. The teams they were more interested in, they asked more questions to. Since the Bulls had the longest meeting, that probably means we’re in really good shape.
That tells me that the length of each
I was thinking the exact same thing
But i think its at a stage now where those meeting didnt mean shit …and its all going to come down to what lebron wants
Yeah
but what happened in the meetings will cause him to make his decision. Ultimately, what he wants.

No Serraphin in summer league ay, i guess an injury for him would pretty much destroy our whole plan.
Aside from JJ, who are you hoping really shines in this years summer league comp.
Im really hoping Joe Alexander has a great summer, there just somthing I like about him i dont know why..
I believe Serraphin is recovering from an injury
and was skipping summer league. Though maybe that’s just the story.

I still think there's a lot of hope
If the Bulls thought it was all over, they would start pursuing other options. Maybe they have and we just haven’t heard it. At this point, I have settled down on LeBronapalooza, and have lowered my expectations though I still believe we are the best option for these FA’s.

I have a feeling that Wade cannot afford to turn down $30m with his injury history.
Lebron is too afraid to leave Ohio, which will bite him in the ass in the long run and he will go ringless like Barkley. Boozer will sign with us and Bosh will follow Wade to Dade county.
Unless Lebron wakes up and says fuck cleveland, I’m from Akron anyways then joins the Bulls and wins multiple rings with Rose, Noah and Boozer.
Bosh 2010!!!!!
I would not mind
Signing David Lee or Boozer and building the team around D-Rose. There are a lot of other FA’s out there, and if these guy want to re-sign with their respective teams we will still build a very, very good team around Rose, Noah, and possibly Deng.

im ready to get behind somthing like this
these 3 big FAs have shown themselves to be money and attention seeking divas.
I dont even really give a shit if we sign them or not anymore, i hope we can, but if not, big deal, sign boozer get better, contend for Melo next year.
Put it this way with our roster, boozer and some more role player fas, were gonna be better then the Amare Knicks next year. So we make that pitch to Melo and see how we go.
I would venture to say with Boozer/Lee, Asik
Maybe Korver, Brewer, some other guys….There are options. My biggest thing is I want the Bulls to get deep on the frontcourt. I think with depth in the frontcourt, they can put up with Orlando. Just need frontcourt depth, which is something we have not had in a long long time.
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.

Continuing in that vein
I think we could get Gortat for a second round pick.
I would venture to say that while that wouldn't be the end of the world
That team could also easily end up as the 6 seed behind Cleveland, Orlando, Miami (with Wade + Bosh), Boston, Atlanta, and Milwaukee
Brad Miller is god.
If we were healthy this year
we would’ve finished before Milwaukee, and maybe even contending with ATL for that 4th seed
by Stacey_Is_King on Jul 5, 2010 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions
We'll be better. I'm pretty sure of it.
At least, I hope we’re better. Couldn’t stand the thought of being a worse team than them.
by Stacey_Is_King on Jul 6, 2010 12:37 AM CDT up reply actions
I mean they were a 46-win team last year
And they’ll be improved next year, swapping Charlie Bell for Maggette, adding Gooden, and having Salmons for a whole season. Jennings should also improve, and getting anything out of Redd will also make them better.
They should be a 50+ win team next year. We should be too even if we only add Boozer + Redick + Brewer or something like that, but it’s definitely not a given that we’ll be better than them if we don’t land one of the big 3.
Brad Miller is god.
Debateable.
You can say that Milwaukee got different…
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.
And..
That had massive injuries to Bogut and Redd…traded away Gadzurich…not sure that Gooden and Maggette will matter much if those two are not healthy.
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.
Not sure what your point is
Redd wasn’t healthy all of last year. If they get any production out of him, they’ll be better. And yeah f bogut’s not healthy next year they’re in trouble but you can say the same thing about he bulls and Noah.
Brad Miller is god.
"possibly Deng"
I’ve hated on Deng almost as much as anyone, but health aside he’s a good player and only slightly overpaid if on the floor. He can shoot, and it’s possible that Thibs can use that skill in tandem with Rose to do something good.
We’re at the point where I think Deng is underrated.
by hitlesswonder on Jul 5, 2010 10:03 PM CDT up reply actions
I like Deng, always have
and I say possibly because if Captain Kirk can be traded, so can Deng. If there’s a team willing to take on Kirks contract, there will be at least one willing to take Deng. Maybe San Antonio, Utah, Clips…but at this point, it’s in the Bulls’ best interest to keep him around. Who knows, we’ll see.
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.
by Sayre Bedinger on Jul 5, 2010 10:05 PM CDT up reply actions
I would think Deng could be traded
His contract isn’t that damn bad. He’s young and put up good numbers last season. I would think that after the FA dust settles, Deng will look attractive to some teams.
The thing is, Kirk was a much worse fit for Bulls simply by the fact that he plays the same position as Rose and gets paid too much to be on the bench. The Bulls can actually use Deng as he is talented and they don’t have anyone better at his position.
by hitlesswonder on Jul 5, 2010 10:09 PM CDT up reply actions
My expectations are to get one good FA
and a few decent role players, move up to about 2/3 seed in the east compete for finals berth, maybe win, maybe not. continue to grow in draft and trades etc. turn from a average 8th seed into a contender.
that my realistic outlook on the situation.
Hey, if realistic means contender
I’ll take either A or B without a care in the world.

yeh
I dont mean like a legit Finals lock or anything, just that were a top seed and in the discussion for the finals, which we are FAR from now. some epople seem to forget that we are an average .500 team at the moment, if we move into the top seeds and are in the discussion for a finals berth AT ALL, that is a major improvement in one off season. I know there is a TON of talent out there, but that doesnt mean it was ever realistically available.
We got a good team one big addition and some 2nd teir roll players would be enough to turn us into an elite team in the east.
IMHO
Anyone see this?...
From Ric Bucher’s (ESPN) Twitter: “As of the moment, all signs point to this scenario: LBJ (Cle), Wade + Bosh(Mia), Boozer(Chi), Amare(NY).”
Surely the Bulls won’t settle for Boozer. He can’t stay healthy and the Duke big man project failed years ago with Elton Brand.
I know it was a contract year
but Boozer actually turned a corner last season, he played pretty well.
Although I HOPE hes not our #1 signing this off season, its not the end of the world if he is, hes a talented ALL-Star \ USA Team Bruising PF, we could use him.
Anyone rather...
Not sign Boozer and just see what 2011 has to offer?

We have to get one player from this class. We can contend this year with a few more pieces. Boozer wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world at this point, and he WANTS to be a Bull as far as we know.

I think Boozer is by far the likeliest signing at this point
Multiple places (including the always reliable Trib comment section!) have posted that Wade and Bosh and have verbally agreed to play together in MIA.
I’m pretty sure James is going to stay in CLE for 3 more years.
That leaves Boozer and Lee and for some reason the org prefers Boozer.
At this point, I’d be shocked if Bucher is wrong.
by hitlesswonder on Jul 5, 2010 10:06 PM CDT up reply actions
That is why I think Lebron just might sign with us.
He would never be able to top a Wade and Bosh combo. And he would still have to get past Orlando and were gonna improve to at least pose a threat.
Bosh 2010!!!!!
At this point I don’t even want 2 of the big 3
I would rather get 1 of them and then sign a few (2-4) players to fill out the roster
There’s no sense in trading away JJ and Taj, 2 guys who look like they will be quite good in the future, just to free up some cap room to get 2 max guys and then be screwed for the rest of the bench.
Rose, LBJ, Deng, Noah, a few other solid free agents, and Taj and JJ. Rather than, for example: Rose, Deng, Noah, Wade, Bosh, maybe Taj or JJ, and then a bunch of crap FAs
You need to have a complete team, not a few studs and garbage otherwise

Doesnt matter what you want.
The reason were going after 2 of the 3 is because Wade, LBJ, and Bosh have made it clear they want to play with each other. Doubling our cap space was a way to lure in any 1 of the 3.

I'm not understanding your point
he either alienates Cleveland and creates an automatic contender in Chicago, or stays home and risks not winning, ever (while making more money). It’s obviously a tough decision (like you said), but I don’t see how his indecision points to Chicago being the frontrunner
by Stacey_Is_King on Jul 5, 2010 10:13 PM CDT up reply actions
I don't know how else to explain it to you
Cleveland: Home, more money. People continue to say how he is leaning Cleveland because it’s home and he will feel bad for leaving them.
Chicago: Winning, lots and lots of money. He doesn’t want Cleveland to suffer, but he knows he can be extremely wealthy in Chicago but WIN.
Now he’s all quiet, apparently can’t decide. If he cared so much about Cleveland, I wouldn’t think this would be too hard of a decision.

What if...
he’s just giving the impression he’s undecided, so that when he does make the departure from Cleveland it looks a little less worse?
Think about it, if he just straight up signed with Chicago on the 3rd, it would of been a big-time suckerpunch to Ohioans. Dragging the process out and claiming he’s undecided makes it seem like he’s conflicted about leaving.
But, you could also argue that if James knows he’s going to leave Cleveland, he should’ve just done it already. Why build up false hope if you’re just going to bolt?
I need a break, lol
I’ve been thinking this could be a possibility. If he at least makes a show of it being a difficult decision when he leaves people might not burn down his house. If he left quickly and easily people would think he never cared about them.

Rose and Lee are almost sure-fire all stars, and Joakim was a snub last year (IMO). We could have three All Star players on our team with Lee regardless if we sign a HUGE name like Wade, James, or Bosh.

Lee would be more fun

oh shiiiiiiiiiiii-
He really likes Rose & Noah. But there’s lack if shooters on roster. Also it doesn’t sound like he’s exactly being welcomed by Rose.
Also, can confirm several reports of a rift between Wes Wesley & James camp. Wes was indeed pushing Chicago, I’m told.

That thing about Rose has to be bullshit.

I mean, isn’t James Rose’s idol or something like that? Plus, that just isn’t Rose’s personality at ALL, lol. Seems like a misunderstanding on Brian’s part or something like that.
Unfortunately, the Wes thing sounds legit from everything I've read
Maverick Carter’s the guy I’m pissed at these days. From my understanding, he’s been mooching off Lebron’s success for years and now he’s accusing Wes of trying to do just that, even though WWW has been a major power since long before Lebron even broke into the league.
Brad Miller is god.
I dunno.
If I was in the NBA, I wouldn’t like Lebron James. I’d respect him as a player, but if I were Rose I would rather combine with Wade and Bosh than play with Lebron. Lebron’s better, but personalities play a role as well. He’s the exact opposite of Rose. He’s boisterous, (extremely) outwardly arrogant and disrespectful to opponents. He called out Mike Brown during the playoffs for his management of JJ Hickson’s playing time. Can you see Rose doing that? Rose has said he’d liked to play with Lebron, but that could just be him saying PC. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find out Rose doesn’t like Lebron.
Link?
BTW, that Rose rumor sounds like total bs.

Well, that makes me question a lot of this guy's tweets now.
Rose is probably the most humble all-star out there. He would welcome anyone who would improve the team.
There’s a different between being humble and actively reaching out to someone and encouraging them to join the team.
What I take away form this is that Rose is not part of the recruiting process.
And there is no reason to doubt Windhorst, he is the best beat writer in the country.
there was a report
earlier that rose and noah were prepared to come to cleveland as part of the presentation, but that they had been told lebron didn’t want players to come recruit him so they didn’t end up going.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

We have enough money to buy Ben Gordon back.
And then bring in Kyle Korver. Is that enough shooters for you Lebron?

Cheer for the jersey and Jerry Reinsdorf!
Woot!!!
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
At this point, I’m making up stuff people have said about LeBron and use the word “LeBron” a few times to get people to read my gray text

Screw LBJ , Wade and Bosh
Go get Lee, Grab a few shooters from the market and just focus on developing Rose.
Im convinced Rose along with the support from noah, d lee , deng can help us quite a bit. Eventually rose will transform into a FUCKING AMAZING player in few years time and we will win some rings. FUCK LBJ FUCK WADE FUCK BOSH and his twitter account. Build the franchise from the true franchise player like we did we MJ.
Lebron, I would like those shoes back, they belong to DERRICK FUCKING ROSE
While I disagree with the profanity behind the sentiment...
I agree with the message. And it is not about me feeling like a slighted fan dying to get what he wants. It is about these guys toying with the process as they see fit. Now Wade I honestly think is having a difficult time deciding because this directly effects the future of his family. Bosh seems more like a child to me who is having a fun time picking out his favorite ice cream at 31 flavors. I am honestly at my wit`s end with Lebron though. The many reasons he may have for delaying this process do not seem to be good and sincere aside from the notion that he `is having a hard time leaving home` which frankly I find to be garbage. Again, Cleveland is not his home. I grew up in Sacramento but I have never considered San Francisco or Oakland my home. If his entourage is involved with the delay, then it is a garbage reason. If he is trying to debate where he can be most successful and win a championship, then it is a garbage reason because Chicago is the obvious choice. If it is about money then yes, a garbage reason because no matter who he chooses he will not be the highest paid player in the league to begin with.
It’s not a hard decision if he just wants to win. It’s really not.

Very perceptive of you mrdope. I thought for sure RogersPark Kris was giving us the straight scoop.
But the more I thought of it, I’m sure you’re right. With that kind of insight I think you should change your sign-in name from mrdope to mrhope.
Like you said, even if we fail to sign any of the free agents, screw them. We should support the Bulls through thick and thin, even if they eventually wind up with a 5 man roster as long as we have Rose, Noah and Taj. The good news is that Reinsdorf will have 30 million dollars of saved salaries, which in this current recession is a great thing to have. So what if it meant we had to dump Gordon, Kirk, Tyrus, Salmons, our first round pick and a few others to accomplish this.
If the Bulls come up empty, I will continue to give them my undying support even if we miss the playoffs. Being a Cub fan makes this transition a peice of cake. Perennial losers can still rely on fans like us to pack the stands no matter how much the product on the field is stinking up their respective stadiums.
Actually if management comes up empty this time, winding up with nothing more than Lee/Boozer (if that much) along with a sack of stale donuts, I think it would be time for serious fans to seriously think about lighting the torches and hitting the Bulls/Cubs where it hurts the most…that is stop rewarding mediocrity with our dollars. I’m still hoping they can pull off a trifecta or at least a daily double, but no way will I blame their failure to sign the top free agents on the players who sought greener pastures because the Bulls failed to make their case.-

whoa!
look I know you love Tyrus, but this is a crazy rant post.
1) the dead weight we dropped in prep for FA wont be missed, as we made the playoffs without them.
2) I think management have done a pretty good job , IMO they have shown they have given it their best had a real go at it, if they come up sort, thats unfortunate, but I don’t think pitchforks and torches are needed.
3)yeh, no matter what ,Ill be behind the team, can you and your quick wit and sarcasm say the same, or do we have a future Heat\Knicks fan in the making? wait …isn’t there a rumor Tyrus could land in NJ, just saying man, plenty of franchises for you to choose from buddy.
Making the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round again is not a reason to continue to support this team with any enthusiasm.
If Wade goes back to Miami and takes Bosh with him & LBJ stays in Akron, and the Bucks stay healthy, it would likely mean another season of futility for Chicago. When you have a young mega-star like Rose, along with Deng and Noah and a solid should be 6th or 7th man like Taj, the Bulls better have a lot of options on the table to take advantage of their young stallions. Everybody hates Kirk, but he was a solid team player who took a lot of pressure off Derrick defensively. Gordon and Fish spread the floor and provided instant offense. Tyrus at 23 will eventually become a beast, especially with his shot blocking, rebounding and improved shooting now that he has Larry Brown mentoring him.
The Bulls gave up a lot to free up this money. To come up almost empty handed would make all those previous moves to clear cap space seem almost futile if they blow this. I will continue to be a Bulls fan but with the enthusiasm of a wet noodle knowing they can’t be serious contenders without another superstar, despite the highlight reels provided by Rose. Is there anyone out there that still gets worked up watching a Cubs game? This buildup has been talked about for 2 years so a letdown of epic proportions would be hard to swallow.
I guess I don’t view blind loyalty necessarily as a virtue. Since Jordan left the Bulls have been perennial also-rans. But my pessimism could change overnight if they land one or two of the big three which would make them instant competitors for the brass ring. Nobody cares that the Cavs won more games during the regular season the last 2 years because it’s all about the trophy. I just want to see the Bulls field a team that has a chance to do what the Blackhawks did this year.
If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

I just have a little more hope for the future than you, thats all, i dont think were DOOMED if this FA does go perfectly. I think we have a pretty good talent base any addition to that will improve this base, thats a lot more than many other teams can state, we arent owed anything just because we are in a big market and had Jordan 10+ years ago, we gotta work for it like everyone else, its been a while, but the Bulls are looking good these days.

WWW James drama?
Also, can confirm several reports of a rift between Wes Wesley & James camp. Wes was indeed pushing Chicago, I’m told.
I give Windhorst the benefit of the doubt moreso than these other hack reporters, but Rose having a preference for someone because they share an agent doesn’t mean he was cold to LeBron.
And if Rose prefers JJ, well there’s a reason he’s a player and not an executive.

Depending on how the rest of the dominos fall, a Lee-Wesley Matthews-Ronnie Brewer summer would still be pretty good. I think that team beats the Cavs with LeBron back. If Rose takes some strides, it might contend for a championship.

2. Denial

IF THEY DON;T SIGN ONE OF THEM I’M NEVER GONNA BE A FAN AGAIN!
4. Bargaining
If they come here, they will get a shitload of championships. If they don’t, they’ll be Charles Barkley and never win one. Their loss.
5. Guilt

- Acceptance and Hope

maybe if we did sign a big FA and he signed for under MLE or somthing, but man, hes just to injury prone, look how Carter worked out for Orlando, I put them in similar boats, both WERE great talents but have lost it.
agreed. but again, maybe if he agrees to a smaller role as a bench player?
That way we limit his minutes and expectations as well.
in that case yeh, i might give him a shot

Amare is the best lowpost scorer in the league.
It’s amazing that people think he’s undeserving of a max. Knicks are a big winner of free agency just from landing this guy. At least for the Knicks, free agency won’t be a bust.

Chicago Bulls Blog and Forums. NBA Power Rankings.
i agree is a great pickup for them.
but after all the certainty from NYK fans that LeBron is as good a theirs over the last few years, for Amare to be walking out of MSG, with his hands out like LeBron??? hehehe
and the fact he cant play any D, or even rebound, makes him a hack IMO
But you are right in the fact that I would rather we signed Amare than be totally shut out.
Well, he doesn't deserve the max.
For me the max are for true game changers…players that can lead your teams to the finals. Bron, Kobe and Wade, perhaps Durant and Melo possibly. Amare isn’t a guy who will carry the team all the way by himself, do what needs to be done to take your team somewhere big.
Amare doesn’t really score with his back to the basket…he’s mostly a face up PF who scores in transition, PnRs and jumpers. 20 mill for Amare is ridiculous. He can score but does everything else half-ass. He couldn’t win in PHX with a top5 PG….you think he’s gonna have those high stats with Duhon, Douglas or Rodriguez as point guard…guess again. The Knicks better hope Amare isn’t bullshitting when he said he could bring Melo and Parker next year. Amare instead of Lee is basically only a slight upgrade offensively.
I think he is a game changer
Especially on offense. I wonder how much his lack of defense is a result of the coaching he has had, although that certainly won’t change returning to D’Antoni. I think the real problem with him is his injury history. The eye injury I find such a huge variable that it would take him outside of the max category.
With him..
Injuries are an issue and coaching is an issue ( as its the same one he had before )
He’s a great transition scorer (when he has a great PG) but is shit at Defence and rebounding, for a 6’10 PF\C getting paid max…..not good enough
is he better than nothing….oh yeh.
1 rpg difference between him and Bosh over the last 3 seasons.

Amare's work ethic is erratic and he'll no longer have the best distributor in the NBA to pad his statistics.
His eye injury and micro-surgeries make him someone who could destruct overnight. He attended 7 high schools and his mother went to prison when he was growing up, not exactly a stable background to fall back on, unlike D Rose who was raised with very strong family values. I’m just grateful the Bulls passed on both him and Johnson.

Does it really matter how Amare scores?
The guy averages something like 23 points on 63 ts% the last 3 years. Injury concerns are overstated, he’s played in more games over the past 3 seasons than Carlos Boozer, and the exact same as Chris Bosh (214)…well more than Bosh when you count playoffs.
The guy led the league in ts% a few years ago, while averaging 25 points per a game. To be the best scorer by efficiency while being 5th in volume is simply amazing.
There is going to be a rude awakening in Phoenix when they realize that Amare is just as important as Nash for the team’s success.

yeah
i totally get what you’re saying, but contracts don’t reflect the absolute worth of a player, that’s pretty arbitrary. and with a market this small demand and supply are badly skewed.
Look around, everybody gets overpaid. Kirk was overpaid, Noce overpaid, Deng overpaid, Gordon good but not at that money, now overpaid by detroit suckers.
Gay is overpaid, Darko got overpaid, Gooden, JJ, Amar’e, pretty much every guy that signs a contract this season is getting overpaid, besides LeBron and Wade. Because yeah really, for the same money, they’re even a bit better than Bosh, so he doesn’t deserve the same.
signing FAs looks fun
I’m excited when we get ours. Gar Forman, Harold Ramis, and David Lee at Mr. Submarine

David Lee and Ronnie Brewer > Tyrus Thomas and Kirk Hinrich??
by Bill Cartwright's Elbow on Jul 5, 2010 11:28 PM CDT reply actions
david lee is definitely better than TT..
i think kirk > brewer
I'd say
Lee+Brewer+Matthews > TT and Kirk
Lee is the more polished offensive player and far superior rebounder. Brewer and Matthews are both excellent defenders and Matthews is a great shooter.
Matthews: ORtg: 113 DRtg:108
Brewer: ORtg: 116 DRtg: 107
Lee: ORtg: 119 DRtg:108
TT: ORtg: 100 DRtg: 100
Hinrich: ORtg: 110 DRtg: 108
All 3 players are better than both Hinrich and TT offensively. While TT and Hinrich are solid defensively, their defensive excellence does not make them that much better.
If you prefer PER, both Kirk and TT are career 15 PER players. Lee is a 19.5, Brewer is a 15.8 (not much better) and Matthews is a 12.3 but was a rookie. By that comparison I’d say the guards are a wash, but Lee is much better.
Either way, this is a definitely better team. Combine that with Rose’s development and a healthy team, it’s solid.
Accodring to Henry Abbott from ESPN Insider
“Marc Stein makes a great point that Joakim Noah is a key selling point for the Bulls as they recruit James. Noah has been an active part of recruiting for the Bulls, having spent time with Bosh and Carlos Boozer, for instance. Sources say Noah was willing to play a similar role with James — but the plan was scuttled when word came that LeBron did not want players as part of teams’ delegations to the pitch meetings in Cleveland. Noah and Derrick Rose had been planning to join the Bulls’ delegation to make clear their commitment to being part of a winner, but instead stayed home.”
So Noah and Derrick were going to CLE with the Org, but LeBron didn’t want players present as part of the pitch… MORE reasons to believe Brian WIndhorst’s “multiple sources” are WRONG on this one

I might argue that LeBron joining the Knicks might make him more hated than loved.
I mean he’ll always have his fleet followers and NYC but nobody loves the NYC teams… I don’t even think China will… well I made that part up. But I would argue that the city can somewhat help with a perception of a player and with LBJ having some asshat ways going to NYC can only fuel the hatred. Cleveland will hate him times 10 regardless.
It’s like you hate the Knicks because you don’t respect them. You might hate the Lakers but there is a respect for them because they win… that kinda thing.
Yea, I agree
People that don’t live in New York tend to hate New York teams and players. Plus, they’ll probably turn him into a tabloid star like other big athletes in the area. That stuff muddys up your image. He has this kind of mystique playing in the midwest, away from the bright lights. It will be incredibly spectacular to see him fail in that city though, and everyone that doesn’t live there will be rooting for it.

doesn't quite make sense...
Why would LeBron consider staying with the Cavs? Yes, they’re his hometown team, but they’ve obviously been built for the 2009-2010 season, and nothing more. If he goes there he’ll simply be running back into the same brick wall of maybe reaching the eastern conference finals before losing to wade-bosh team…He needs to go where he thinks he has the best possible chance to win. Honestly I like Bosh, but for a big man, he’s kinda soft, anyone else notice that? LeBron + Lee in a heartbeat.

Dwayne Wade news
“Wade’s reps cancel his scheduled press conference for Tuesday’s promotional appearance at basketball camp, Zo Summer Groove.”
A tweet from Miami Herald beat writer (just a few minutes ago)
and then his follow-up tweet
“Move to keep Wade away from media sure to raise concerns about his looming free-agency decision and future in Miami.”
The fact that this was canceled cannot be "insignificant."
The fact that it was canceled the day AFTER he met with owner also cannot be “insignificant.”
I have gotten myself to a place where I have accepted we will not get Lebron or Wade…..but then reading this gets me hopeful.
Agreed.
Hard to not view Wade canceling his participation in an event of a Heat executive as being insignificant.
I wonder if Wade is going to commit to the Bulls tomorrow to try to pre-emptively butt out Lebron James from committing to the Bulls first, avoiding a situation where Wade himself gets shutout with the Bulls choosing to pair Bosh/Boozer with Lebron instead of Wade himself.
I think it would make sense. I think Wade will make his commitment tomorrow. He has indicated that it would take the weekend to come to a decision and that it is independent of Lebron’s.
It’s kind of weird to think that there is a strong chance Wade becomes a Bull after the entire leadup to free agency.

Yea, but he didn't cancel anything
All he did was cancel a media session that he would normally have prior to the event. He’s doing that in order to avoid the hundreds of free agency questions he would surely get. He’s still doing the actual event.

Truly not much should've happened by now.
There’s just so much bs out there because everybody wants to broadcast “inside” information… But actions speak louder than bs and the reality is that (it seems from what I’ve read) the Bulls have had the longest meetings with these guys, LeBron chose to speak with the Bulls last, the Bulls are the only team to have met with two of them simultaneously, and the big three FA have stated that being in a winning situation is the biggest goal.
All the other speculation has come from people with agendas.
Personally, I think LeBron is figuring out how best to say goodbye to Cleveland (and possibly to part of his entourage) and he prepares basically to become a man and move to the Big Time of Chicago. And I think the Bulls’ silence speaks volumes(almost makes me wonder if they have a super-secret verbal indication already).
So I’m optimistic. But realistic enough to know that anything can happen. And practical enough to realize that $29 million in FA spending is gonna create a pretty dang good team with 1,2, 3 or 4(!) all stars no matter what.

I would agree
But I’m kinda worried about the Bulls commitment to signing guys if we do miss out on the big names. KC said today that the Bulls don’t want to max out Carlos Boozer. In the past, he’s said he’ll only go into the tax for a very good team. Maybe he won’t see the value in signing some of these other guys when it could put the team in the tax a year or two from now. I can easily see him bypassing a guy like Boozer, getting a shooter, a couple of bench players, not using all the cap space, then extending Noah, and saying “Hey, we tried”

Hard to say...
I would think if they decided that no available FA is worth it that they would look to trade and spend the money that way.
I think the reality is that they will max out Boozer. But I would hope they’d consider Lee instead as he has a smaller max and much better health record.

Q. What should the Bulls do if they don’t land James or Wade?
A. First, they’ll try to lock up one of the power forwards – Bosh, Carlos Boozer or David Lee. Remember when there seemed to be little chance of James joining the Bulls, signing Bosh or Boozer would have been viewed as a successful summer.
Now there’s a vacancy at shooting guard, though. I’d recommend the Bulls pursue free agents Shannon Brown, Kyle Korver, Ray Allen, Roger Mason and Randy Foye, in that order. Tough to tell who might be available in a trade.
Has Mike McGraw lost his damn mind? He keeps saying the Bulls should go after Shannon Brown to fill the hole at shooting guard.

No way Shannon Brown would leave the Lakers for what we would give him. I`d take him as a backup shooting guard in an instant though but only if he came at the right price and after we signed a starting shooting guard and a power forward – and that ain`t gonna happen.
I'm very glad they're considering David Lee. I'd hate Boozer as an addition to this team
But as for Shannon Brown, no. Just no.

Actually ya I kinda retract that….he works as a backup on the Lakers because hes freakishly athletic and he gets slept on because they have so many other threats. Unless our team was similarly made up and we got him on a cheap contract (which wouldn`t happen) I wouldn`t take him. He gets things done for the Lakers though…
that is a terrible list
I’d take Mike Miller, Ronnie Brewer, Korver, Morrow, Redick, Ray Allen, Mason and Foye in that order. And I would take any combination of 2 overpaying a bunch for 1 of those guys, because none of these guys are exactly game changers.

But JJ Redick is a good shooter and a smart player. Right now, he and Allen are more or less the same player. And Redick’s younger, and he might be cheaper.
Brad Miller is god.
yeh that'll make it hard.
unless we over pay, they will, and if we sign a max, what we have left probably wont be overpaying enough to scare off Orlando.
That is a good list...
Except for Kyle Korver (too white) and Ray Allen (too old)…
I wonder how McGraw missed Ronnie Brewer, who statistically is one of the better available SG’s on the market…certainly better than Foye and Mason…
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.
It`s funny...
People are gonna keep on repeating the same stuff over and over.
Every other post is still either something to the tune of:

or
“We`re fucked. Kill me now.”

That's because this is such a unique situation
Can you imagine a time with so many different possibilities? The Bulls could potentially become a dynasty, or they could just be OK. And everyone is waiting for the first shoe to drop. It could be devastating, or it could be the greatest signing in the history of sports. There’s so much on the line. Fans are dying for a sign one way or the other. Ummmm
Why cant Both Wade and Lebron sign 3 year deals with Chicago? …I mean if it doesnt work out ( highly Doubtful) Then leave ?
not that i agree with the notion
but maybe u can look at it this way…
dwade-in three years he will be in the declining age of his prime, sped up moreso due to his injuries and playing style…while its not a given, it is the most possible that in 3 years wade will not be as good as he is now, plus if he picks up one more difficult injury, he’d have huge red flags
Bosh-wants to sign a huge contract now because damn it hes worth it, he doesnt have the same impact on the world as the other two, he wants big money now so that he can start his brand on the world….
lebron-he can sign a contract for three years cuz he doesnt need big money now, he already is the biggest name in basketball, and in three years he probably still wont have a major injury, cuz hes built like a rock, and extremely young. he is the only one who can risk a 3 year deal that leads nowhere cuz he doesnt need the money and has more time to win than the other two…
I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!
So a 3 Year Deal with the Bulls is possible
So …..its “possible” that Both Wade & Lebron or Bosh sign with Chicago…Any 2 of these guys makes this team As good as the Lakers …from my opinion
Question....
Lebron wants to wait until after Camp, which would be at the earliest Thursday night.
If Wade calls today and says Lock it in, i wanna be a Bull.
Do we wait for LeBron answer or sign that mofo up ASAP?
Lebron’s camp finishes Wednesday afternoon not Thursday, and Wade has his own camp and it lasts a day longer than Lebron’s. So even if he wanted to I don’t think he’ll be ready to decide until after Wade.
by CavsLebronFan on Jul 6, 2010 2:17 AM CDT up reply actions
your talking about a different scenario that i stated
i meant Thursday for his answer to the Bulls\Cavs etc
regardless of Wades camp he could still call the bulls and state the above.
Finally, regarding Wade and Bosh, Prokhorov told his inner circle he has no doubt that both will sign with Miami.
The quote is from a pretty interesting article by Broussard on what Prokhorov expects to happen in free agency. Obviously it would suck if he is correct with his prediction, although this is probably where the smart money is, as of today. There’s some other good stuff in there regarding Lebron as well.

wtf...
Joining the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers or New York Knicks. These options, according to Prokhorov, are similar from a basketball standpoint and he believes none of the three clubs have a clear-cut strategy for winning championships.

I’ve lived in Russia for 10 years. Trust me… if you don’t believe anything else you hear the rest of your life, and even if your mom lied to you about being the most beautiful person in the world causing you to be cynical of everything you’ve heard since, believe this one thing …. NOBODY on Prokohorov’s inner circle risked their 7 figure salaries and jet setting careers by leaking their boss’ observations to an ESPN hack.
They rightly identified they are dealing with a 25 year old influence peddler in Maverick Carter who probably reads 20 websites a day in hopes of seeing his name. So why not butter him up, and then emphasize part of their pitch that might not have been too well received the first time: not going to stop making improvements, long term championship opportunity. Then reinforce the whole global icon crap. (as though IMG, the company that got its start repping the likes of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas need advice in this area)
Now, let’s pray Broussard isn’t such an idiot that he really believed he was getting some great scoop, and that he just agreed to reprint what they wanted in exchange for future access. God let’s hope. Still rather shameful for ESPN to allow this. I might actually read their next Ombudsman article to see if it’s talked about.

Cav Fans Logic = Akron→Cleveland→Cavaliers
My logic = Akron→Cleveland→Ohio→Midwest→Bulls
Lakers fans are hippies and Knick fans are guido. (lol at that saprano pitch)
Don't see how that's a shock
I never saw Wade leaving, and Bosh and him seem pretty tight. The Bulls meeting stunt was just that, a stunt to get attention and make his documentary more interesting.
There's no denying that Wade/Bosh may team up. In fact I expect it.
But what got to me was the other things he said. I understand all the things he’s trying to do. He masterfully avoided insulting Cleveland and he trashed the other teams who has a chance to get LeBron. But it kinda seems stupid that his masterplan is to say to LeBron that CP3 may be Net. His second point was James can benefit greatly in a global scale. Guess what? LeBron doesn’t need them to be a global icon. People all over the world wear Jordan jersey’s not because he’s friends with a some Russian businessman or a rapper. They wear it because the consider him to be one of the greatest. It’s all about the the player and not who he knows. As for his “championship strategy” guess what? It’ everybody’s plan. It’s nothing original.
This is what he’s offering
1. A promise that maybe they’ll get CP3 when he’s a available.
2. Global icon. LeBron doesn’t need them.
3. His championship strategy. Which is a mirror image of everybody else’s.
..
LeBron: “What’s your plan to get me really good players to help me win with your gutted 12 win roster”.
Prokhorov: “Well LeBron, my plan is completely revolutionary because i’m the only person with the inherent ability to do it, you see…. I plan to get you really good players – really good players….ehhm, yeah!”
With hope evading me a bit at this point
Or diminishing a little bit, whatever; It feels like I’m junk-sick or something. Like, you know, all of the shit: Corey Benjamin, Jalen Rose, Marcus Fizer, Eddie Robinson, our decade of shit-kicking existence, it all telescopes down to these next few days. We’re running after these FA’s and our legs haven’t totally collapsed under us like lawn chairs, just yet. So, there is still hope and defense in the headline: We haven’t eternally fucked anything up yet.
Rick Morrissey has lost the plot.
Comparing Chicago and Cleveland in regards to ‘franchise championship win droughts’ etc
Chicago has a lot more in common with Cleveland than it would care to admit. Maybe we’ve gotten a little uppity with six Bulls’ titles, a Sox’ World Series title in 2005 and a Hawks’ Stanley Cup this year.
ummm yeh that would be it Rick.
/facepalm
Yes Rick.. if you take out our numerous championship seasons
And our thriving community, our packed arenas & stadiums, our not-wrecked economy, our position as a large center of trade and finance, then yes, I suppose we really should look inside and realize we’re no different than Cleveland.

Lebron would just hinder the growth of the core that the Bulls have already. Guys like Kobe, MJ, Wade, Lebron demand to run the team and dominate the ball … they dont need or want a point guard like Rose. They want to control the ball, lead the team, and make the decisions on the court. The Bulls would be better off getting one of the star PFs, a good SG, and add quality shooters and big men to the bench. Be patient with this core of players, add smart pieces and let them develop the chemistry some of the other top teams have.
I'm unwilling to concede the fact that a team without Lebron James is better than one with him.
For the most part, regardless of how they are constructed around him. I don’t even know what “hinder the growth” of the team means at this point? Lebron isn’t near the gunner that Kobe (or even Wade) is at this point. Wade’s game is predicated on getting to the rim just as much as LBJ’s IMHO; We could hire a team of biochemists to concoct the most loaded purple-drank of chemistry you’ve ever seen, and chemistry without supreme talent equals every tagline Scott Skiles has ever wrought. We need another superstar, baby!
You're unwilling to concede the fact, because it's not one.
It’s ridiculous to think this team is better without LeBron.

nincompoopness, not withstanding
I’m still not sure how Lebron James “hinders the growth” of a basketball team.
I see, I see, I'm sorry
I was thoroughly confused. That happens more often than I’d like to admit. Thanks for the graciousness.
If it is true, I could understand why Rose doesnt want Lebron. Lebron has the loudest personality on and off the court in the NBA. Go to a game, he has the loudest voice in the league and he yells constantly. Rose wants to be the leader and that isnt happening with Lebron, especially with Lebron. Rose and Noah want to beat Lebron, not team up with him. I am surprised that most Bulls fans dont feel the same way.
I want LeBron with the Bulls but
somewhere in the back of my head your argument rings loud and true.
Well if it does.. kick Rose to the curb.
I’m sure we could trade him for Chris Paul and go on about our business winning championships if Rose doesn’t want to play with LeBron.

Would not trade him for a pot of gold.
He has an MVP written all over him in the coming years. Just keeps getting better. Also the fans connect to the local Chicago guy way better that to an import.
Well LeBron already has MVP written all over him.
There’s a difference between having potential to win one, and already having one. I’ll take the guy who has one.

Amen.
And I’ve got to think all the reports of friction between Rose and anyone else (or his lack of enthusiasm in welcoming the prospect of fucking WORLDBEATERS, etc. whatever the hell) is just manufactured bullshit. In the king of all hypotheticals.
Lebron James: I want on your squad.
Team: Uh, no thanks?
This periphrial stuff is garbage. LeBron James is loud? Shit! Metallica is loud! Lebron James owns shit! DRose simply can’t be passively agressively poo-pooing this idea. I simply don’t believe it.
Lebron can be the #2
I can predict the future using Norm Van Lier's crystal balls.

Chad FORD:
Breaking News: The Orlando Magic agree to a 4 year, $15M deal with point guard Chris Duhon. Link coming …
there goes our back up PG plan…
did they use their MID-LEVEL exception already???
so it means REDDICK will not be resigned??..I’m confused..
lets go after JJ Reddick now
im still puzzled about that move. Can they resign JJ still? Magic’s over the cap right? so basically they used their MLE on Duhon??
They can sign Reddick without using any exceptions...
He is their restricted free agent, so they have the right to match any offer he receives (even a max offer)
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.
? I mean he's a nice back up and all
But he’s a dime a dozen, and already had trouble here with his off the court activities / work ethic. I imagine we can find a non-drunk back up PG who makes it to practice on time rather easily.

Crappy agent? You think Duhon should be getting more than 4 million a year? I don't.

Unbelievable what some of these very ordinary players are receiving.
Duhon’s agent should get a raise
here's the link to chad's news...

Shit. No joke.
That’s one of my prayers every night.
God,
You made Shawn Bradley ugly, uncoordinated, pale, and brittle.
But God, you made him seven foot. Please have this favor on my son.
Amen.
