Good breakdown
It’s good to finally get a good, detailed breakdown of our next big man prospect. He looks promising, and if he progresses the way that he is expected to, he could be very useful, maybe even by next year.

Thibs can help with the defensive side of things
Asik seems like an intelligent big man which will help him succeed in the league. I imagine it does come down to bulking up a bit.
I don’t know, I had watched a number of YouTube clips of him (not just highlights) and I never thought he was particularly undersized. I think that you do not send him to the D-League at all. Give him limited minutes on the floor if it seems like he really is not ready and have him practice with the likes of Noah, Boozer, Taj and Kurt on a regular basis. If he plays his cards right he could find himself to be a contributor in the second half.

Can't believe I'm writing this before actually seeing him play an NBA game but that link suddenly has me very worried about our backup center
I wonder are those old clips he's using...
I thought he had bulked up? On these clips he looks like James Augustine.

Ya thats a good question
Theres probably as much game footage since he came over to rehab.
He travels with weights
sometimes he puts them in his pocket

As a big man, you have to be strong in the league
Unless you can make it up on offense like Gasol or Bosh.
Even Ben Wallace was a successful center just because of how strong he was even though he was undersized.
This kid aint going nowhere with the shape he looks to be in.
there are/were a few good centers in the league that are/were not about strength
camby, noah, lopez, hakeem, mutumbo

lopez is pretty strong actually
camby is just a jumping jack.
same with mutumbo back in his day.
noah competes hard but against the big centers its obvious he cant compete against them 1 on 1 yet

Athletic strength comes a lot more in your core than in your biceps
and those muscles are very often hidden by jerseys and such.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
He looks like Noah circa rookie season. I'm failing to see the huge deal here.

He looks terribly weak
AND has undergone major knee surgery.
I don’t know how much stronger he’ll become.
And Noah in his rookie season wasn’t pretty at all
joel pryzbilla
is known for injuries and doesnt look all that athletic for a 7ft center, yet he is one of the most solid defensive and rebounding centers in the entire league…
I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!
the old post from whatever random forum it was
says he got hurt a few years ago and then bulked up, then got hurt this past year in… I want to say October? and bulked up 10-30 lbs or something like that.
He’s not going to be huge ever, and he still won’t be ideal NBA size next year, but he will get bigger.

Wait, so how tall is he?
I thought he was like 7’0’’, according to ESPN. This article says 6’10’’ and then 6’11.’’ What is it?
Reminds me of that scene in Arrested Development when Gob keeps increasing the value of his suit. “Come on!”

Sebastian's analysis is pretty good, usually, but I'm going to go ahead and disagree that Omer is weak at help defense.
All the other scouting I’ve read on him has him as a very, very solid help defender. Sebastian watched a couple of games and broke them down, which is useful, but obviously doesn’t tell the full story.
Plus, Asik is no longer 230, he’s reportedly added significant muscle mass since the Bulls got him on a weight training program a year or two ago(the guy had never touched a weight prior to the Bulls working with him). He’s listed at 255, pretty much everywhere. Plus, he’s 7 feet, not the 6’ 10" Priuti had him at.
I am not worried, at all.
The Bulls will win 50 games this year and (hopefully) the Central Division for a top 3 seed.

I do think its a bit interesting
that most of the reports we’ve heard on his outstanding help defense have come based more on (I think) his Eurobasket play. Sebastian mentions the lack of challenge for Omer in the Turkish league, being caught flat footed could definitely be a little laziness or lack of concentration creeping in.
Or it could be he just selected a few bad games.
Draft Express has him at 6’11" fwiw.
But I agree theres no reason to panic.
I was encouraged by seeing him utilizing the pick and roll game to get himself some alleyoops
Tyson Chandler made a career of doing that with Chris Paul.

I'm really excited to see this guy play.
Him and Noah could be the most fun center tandem in the league to watch.
