Should Pippen Replace Pete Myers?
It's been said that the Bulls could use an ex-player on the bench to replace Pete Myers. Pippen, who some (most notably Phil) have said would make a good coach, is back with the Bulls and presumably available for such a position. This is completely speculative but at least on the surface (which is all the depth I have on this) would be interesting. Not sure how Thibs feels about Pip but you'd have to think he'd have the players respect already. He's literally hanging over their heads...

Love the player, question the coach personality
I loved Pip as a player. His inability to mange his money, notorious non-tipper, questionable, erratic life decisions point to someone I do not want on the bench.

No Tipp'n Pippen!
At a garage a friend of mine worked at back in the 90’s, Pippen stopped in and finally gave a tip…. a pair of signed game worn shoes. Pip knew he was supposed to tip, and would do so generously when he did. He just didn’t do it very often! I do believe that was the first and last tip he left at that garage.
LOL, No Tippin Pippen,
but I think Pip on the bench will be nice, his money manging and off court decisions shouldn’t be a hang up, we want him for his basketball knowledge, he won’t be advising Boozer how to invest his money.

I hope not
There will be a lock out for sure after next season if he’s the money manager for the players!
I've heard it all. We must not hire someone for a coaching position because he's a poor tipper?

I wouldn't mind giving Pip a shot
I’d like to know more about why Meyers was forced out… personality conflict?
Thibs
remembered how he played back in the day, and didn’t want anymore of Myers’s busterism rubbing off on the players

It was rumored by Will Purdue that Pip might be brought into a coaching gig.
This was during the time when Wade questioned the Bulls loyalty. So maybe. I’m for it.
Thibs doesn't seem like the type to give a guy a job because he was once a great player
For his first head coaching job, I’m guessing he would prefer to have someone he’s familiar with or someone with head coaching experience on the bench with him. If Scottie really wants to coach, I’m sure some D-League team would give him a job.
Pippen was also a defensive menace
Maybe Thibs will take that specialty into account as he tries to bring in his defensive mindset

Excuse my ignorance ....
Is the D-leauge similar to MLB in regards to a farm system or can any NBA team pick and choose from any D-league club?
i think it's kind of a combo (someone can correct me if i'm wrong)
each team is associated with a particular d-league team, but that’s for sending their players down to the d-league… i think they could bring any unsigned (with an nba team) player up from any d-league team.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
its a crappier farm system than the MLB
MLB develop prospects through there deep farm where as NBA D leaguers are at best used for bench and rotation. You look at the phenom Strasburg who spent time in the minors and then you look at say John Wall, he isn’t spending any time in the D league this year. Theres high lottery pick Thabeet who spent significant time in the D league but thats only because he was crappy.

The NBA has a farm system even better than MLB's: NCAA basketball. They don't even have to pay for it!
And unlike MLB teams, they don’t even have to waste their time scouting high schoolers from obscure towns.

yeah that's not really even true in a funny way.
It sure makes finding players you want to draft / sign undrafted easier, but the truth is, the Chicago Bulls don’t automatically get the tights to any Duke players (sorry Boozer / Deng), so it’s not really a farm system. We also can’t be like eeeeh Asik isn’t doing too well, let’s put him on the Tar heels.
I would say the college system is a lot more of, oh, say. a college athletics system, than, y’know, a farm system… seeing as everything that would make it a farm system doesn’t apply.

It's not a farm system the same way MLB is. It's still a developmental system that the NBA doesn't have to pay for
With smaller rosters and fewer roles, the NBA has little need for a farm system similar to MLB anyways. Add in European leagues and the CBA, and the NBA has enough places for players to develop on their own. Honestly, it’s a better system for the NBA teams (don’t have to pay), players (don’t get buried in the minors behind organizational depth), and “minor” teams (get to run their teams to win instead of serving whims of parent clubs).

it's not a farm system unless you own their rights while they develop.
Hence, “farm.” The idea being, use the products / goods you own to naturally grow and develop… like plants on a farm.
I’m not saying a farm system would or wouldn’t be better for the NBA. I’m simply telling you that factually college basketball is not a farm system, not even close.

as long as he doesnt make em suck
All I want in life is for UC fans to chant: Deeeeeloooonte during Heat games
Yes, I think that would be awesome.
What a great example of a defensive minded superstar. And the respect he is sure to still command from players… great idea IMO.
I would hire him on my bench
but I don’t think Pippen would want the job. He want’s to jump straight into head coaching.

I heard or read the same; he wants a head coaching job.
However, IMO i don’t consider it a smart move. I remember Kurt Rambis interview and stated the huge difference between head coaching and assistant coach. I think Pip does not understand the time and effort required to prepare a team. I would suggest he takes the role of a journeyman prior to jumping into a head coaching job. God forbid he ends up as another VDN. Additionally, I know he can contribute as an assistant for Thib’s
