Bulls offseason < Pacers? Would u bring BG/Kirk back?

Around the web

CBS Matt Moore thinks the Bulls just made average acquisitions in the off season, saying the approach was

Why have excellent when you can have above-average?

While I do agree we are far from awesome I think his "excellent" alternatives (that included Morrow and Amare) were not all that better. And for the price we paid I'm in with the org here.

The author actually had the Pacers above the Bulls.

Then Doug Thonus will set fire on BaB with this:

Let's say for the sake of argument the Bulls had the opportunity to bring back either Hinrich or Gordon on their existing deals by using their cap space

Well, haters gonna I hate but I'm in. Thonus also defended the Sasha trade but I think somebody said we didn't have the cap for that, right?

To finish, Rudy is compared to Kirk by Dwyer

There are a lot of Rudys in this league, players who aren't used properly in one fashion or another, and I think this guy could be a sterling pickup for a team that needs someone to run stuff off the bench. Or even a starter, and second ball-handler. Perhaps, like — I don't know — Kirk Hinrich(notes) was in Chicago over the last two years?

Glue guy anyone?

I think

the Bulls did the best they could do, Kirk & Ben were not going to get you to the next level, imo, sometimes change is just good, I like the make-up of this time, and I’m ready to see this team play.

Nah

Remember? That one guy at Brewhoop said the Bucks would obliterate the Bulls. There is no chance that they even win the central division

Agreed

They’re the Bulls from a couple years ago – BG/Kirk + Maggette+ Bogut. Plus, Griffin’s an assistant coach! We’re the Nationals to their Globetrotters.

Under-estimating Boozer

I think Moore’s got a screw loose. He is severely underestimating the impact of Boozer. He doesn’t evene mention CJ Watson who has the potential to breakout this year. It seesm that he was more concerned w/ the Big 3 and the draft. Anything outside of that was a wash.

On the Kirk/BG question

No way would I want Kirk back on his current deal. We filled the need for shooting with Korver and defense with Brewer. Kirk is a great defender and all, but he is a much better PG than SG and we already have a PG. BG on the other hand is tough. I would love to have that guy back, but the price of his current contract is steep! A smart coach could make BG and Rose the most deadly offensive backcourt in the league (except maybe Parker and Ginobli). Those two guys playing off each other with Boozer still in the mix would be fun to watch! However, I think Luol/Brewer could potentially be just as good a fit with Rose as a BG/Brewer combo, but for different reasons (I am assuming we’d have to give up Luol to get BG back). The big if is whether Luol can step back 2 feet and start knocking down threes. He is not the playmaker that BG is, but if he can knock down open threes and be a good slasher, I think Luol’s defense is a better fit on the court, not knowing how much of an improvement Rose will make in that area.

In the end, I try not to pine for players that we once had. I like the team we have. If we can find a solid 2 in the remaining offseason, at the deadline, or next year, I think the Bulls will be solid.

I think this is pretty on the money

Under most circumstances, I’d have thought Noah/scoring big man/Deng/BG/Rose with proper backups (like Brewer, Taj and Watson) was about the realistic best case scenario. A team like that could be good defensively and be awesome offensively.

That’d give us a chance to win the Finals against a lot of teams, I think.

But I think in the face of Lebron, Wade and Bosh teaming up, it wouldn’t have worked and we need to think about the best way to match up with that team. Getting into a run and shoot match with that team, even with Rose, BG, and Boozer, is a losing battle. If you’ve got enough offense to hold your own though, super rebounding from most every position, and very good, big, strong, and athletic defenders though, I could see us slowing them down enough that Boozer/Rose has a chance to outscore them.

The absolute best strategy would be to get another excellent player who’s also big, strong and athletic but who can score (eg Iggy) or a guy who’s just amazingly talented (Paul, Melo)

Any 2,3,4 that matches up with Miami is going to look weak

its about the other players if you want to beat those guys. its about the 1,5 and depth

Besides, where's Paul going to play on this team

He’s not a two guard…

I would be all for getting BG back

except that his contract is too steep. Plus, I would want him in the sixth-man offensive explosiveness role that he isn’t exactly happy about

All of the pieces really fit on paper.

We got a guy on a much better deal as a backup pg and a big athletic defender at two, so I have to say, its officially time to move on from Kirk and BG. Deng is the best player of the bunch and we still have him, so I am just hoping he can start hitting some threes and we can collectively liquidate the last 12 years and move on to accepting our position as the Pacers/Heat/Knicks/Suns/Mavericks of the 2010s.

I saw T2 at Walgreens in Deerfield he’s tall. if you’re wondering what his grocery list included: magnums, french vanilla ice cream and a 20 oz sprite

Man I wish

I could use my catch phrase for Kirk/BG, hate using alternatives, shut the front door on Kirk & BG.

The operation is over for Kirk and BG, not the same effect.

no team is reaching the finals with BG shooting all your shots in the 4th.

and I am a huge Kirk supporter cuz he did other things and let rose/deng take their shots. but he really couldnt hit his open 3’s, and that is why he was worth letting go.

I guess the Pacers had a better offseason than we did

they did nothing...at all...

I guess Bird’s “intangibles” still count for something when he’s playing the “GM” position

I was never a big fan of BG, Kirk, Tyrus lineup etc

Hey, they were young and had upside, were promising talents etc, but ultimately they were frustrating players to watch and we didn’t even look close to winning a championship.

I much prefer the situation we are in now. I do somewhat regret Kirk leaving, albeit on a more sentimental level, but considering what we have now, No regrets as a fan whatsoever.

For all the people who are whining about the departure of BG\Kirk\Tyrus etc and that we didn’t get the ‘big 3’ anyway, would be the same people whining if we kept their ‘beloved’ players and never tried in the first place. because that was the alternative people.

I think the org showed some balls, rolled the dice, crapped out, and ended up with a better team then when they started, with better fitting players around their new young franchise player. They turned a team that has been an 7th or 8th seed to a team people are talking about for 2nd or 3rd seed ( and this was the ‘disaster’ scenario )

As a fan, If you are upset at that, you’ll never be happy, people have to get real , the org done a pretty fantastic job IMO, constructing the team we have going into next season, note how other ‘all-in for free agency’ teams have fared compared to us.

You can be disappointed as a fan that we didnt fare better in FA I guess, but I don’t think you can point a finger at the org and say they are useless cos we gave up BG,Kirk,Tyrus to get where we are now.
