Monta Ellis on the Bulls
I recently saw a link and ESPN rumor central stating that there is a possibility that Monta Ellis could be traded and that got me thinking. I really like Ellis as a shooting guard. I see him as a DWade light (you get the scoring but lose some of the defense, killer instinct and athleticism). I think and Ellis + Rose back court = scary good. 2 guys who can drop 30+ on any given night, athletic, will improve defensively and young (Ellis is only 24 right now). Plus he's an instant upgrade over Brewer who I like for defense but not so much for a consistent and legitimate offensive threat. I think Brewer was the product of a great system that masked a lot of his flaws (check out this article where they talk about the flex offense and possibly bringing it to chicago http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/18622/what-the-chicago-bulls-can-learn-from-the-utah-jazz).
My question to you the Bulls faithful is do you think Ellis would be a good fit at shooting guard for the Bulls? I'm not so much concerned about if we can get him just do you think it would work out well for the Bulls and ultimately for the growth of Rose? (although if somebody can make it work in the trade machine and posts a link I won't complain)

Ellis will not fit with Rose.
I saw T2 at Walgreens in Deerfield he’s tall. if you’re wondering what his grocery list included: magnums, french vanilla ice cream and a 20 oz sprite

No
Monta Ellis is “the product of a great [terrible] system that masked a lot of his flaws” and isnt that good at basketball.
NO
Not a good shooter, terrible on defense. Iffy ball handling. Undersized 2…shit, I’d rather just get BG back. Ellis has one truly really good year and then he regressed. Not a fan.
I agree with some of your comments but he just had his best season
so the ‘one good year then regressed’ is not exactly true

No. He just had his worst season since at least his rookie year.
I’m sure teams are lining up for the least efficient volume scorer in the league.

NBA.com lists him at
25.5 ppg / 45%FG / 5.3apg / 4.0 rpg / 2.2 spg
not bad for a worse season

Except the scoring was on 22 FGA per game
With 3.8 TOV and TS% of 51.7, ending up with a 99 ORtg. Yeah, as long as he plays like that, he sucks.
If his PER/TS% in his best season
Is 16.7/51.7, then there’s not a lot of upside to acquiring him. Especially combined with his non-existent defense.

It's got to be Sam
I never understand how a personcan say that the Bulls will have great defense this year. Then stump for Monta Ellis. You can’t be any more contradictory.
Yeah Sam Smith keeps bringing this up
but it doesn’t fit with the current bulls gameplan at all…while watson has some redeeming characteristics, ellis is basically the product of a shoot-every-goddamn-time-the-ball-touches-your-hands-latter-day-don-nelson-former-genius-who-has-completely-lost-his-mind-and-gone-to-the-dark-side offense.
also, worst defensive backcourt ever
Finally the NBA has a villain
i hate us pining for a shooting guard :(
and then i think back and remember bg :(
we let him walk for nothing :(
Monta Ellis is horrible.
He’s the very definition of one of the most over-priced assets in basketball.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

Yes
I feel like I have just been quoting stats lately, but Ellis is seriously not that good. His TS has been right near 50% the past two seasons and he’s had some injury problems (we don’t need that). If he can get back to where he was in 2008, I would love to see this backcourt. He is not the best fit in the world, but that season he had in 2008 was pretty darned great, especially for a small guard who shoots threes as poorly as Monta. That said, his past two seasons have been injury filled and not good. He’s a pretty big risk with a very big salary attached.

No Way
The “I’ma take a lotta shots AI-style” game that Monta has is the exact opposite of what the Bulls need. He led the league in FGAs last season and is horribly inefficient. We need guards who can shoot the ball and score with some efficiency. What we need is Xavier Henry! (j/k)
Bad Idea.
Monta is garbage and a horrible fit for this team. Rose is more explosive, athletic and has a much higher ceiling. We need to add 3 pt shotting not a ball hog. Monta will disrupt the offense more than help it. Takes way too many shots than necessary. Even back in 2008 I felt he was overated and just shined because of Don Nelson’s @ss backwards system. Sam needs to dead that idea and it should never be brought up again.
I was not totally against it
But that had to be done earlier. Now we have no cap and it probably would cost us too much

Once Upon A Time. Derrick Rose. The End....

I'll take him
His efficiency would go way up, he would not take so many threes, the break would be unstoppable.
defense, schmefense

why get Ellis when you can get Arenas
Washington is just giving him away anyway.
don't let the bed bugs bite
i was trying to be facetious
but having Ellis on the Bulls is ridiculous to begin with.

Monta is not a good fit here...
not because he isnt a good player but it will hinder more than help the development of Derrick Rose. When you watch Monta for a long time, over time you realize that he can put up 40 points on any night. He is one of the quickest guys in the league which gets him to the rim very effectively. He has also developed a three point shot in this past season which is around 35% at the moment. His midrange game is underrated as well. I remember in February of the 2008-2009 (not sure which season) he shot in the mid 60s for FG% which was especially stunning because about half the shots he took were 15-20 foot jumpshots. BUT, Monta is at the point that he needs to play for HIS team, and if he comes to chicago, it will not be his team, but Rose’s. As ridiculously amazing as he is, he is not a good fit for the Bulls at all
