For a night, though, speed and talent meshed brilliantly. The squads combined to score 210 points, made 24 of 51 3-pointers, watched a breakout performance from Derrick Rose (15 points, 8 assists, 5 steals, no turnovers) that should make him the leading contender to start at point guard and got 28 points in 29 minutes from Durant.

Wow
You know he played well when Sheridan is saying that. Sweet.
Deng/Boozer/Noah: All your rebound are belong to us.
Seriously, I'm surprised the column wasn't about how the US made a huge mistake not asking Andy Rautins to join the team

Did you see my fanpost about this last night?
It’s at the top of the open game thread. I was looking forward to your take on Sheridan, I figured you hate him too.
Deng/Boozer/Noah: All your rebound are belong to us.
The featured one at the top of the front page?
No, haven’t checked it out yet. I had to DVR the game and just got done watching it. I wanted to watch it before reading that thread. And yes, I can’t stand Sheridan. I think he made a fool of himself during the Lebron nonsense. I know he’s on the ESPN New York site, but he’s still basically a National writer. The amount of bias he showed was laughable.
Superteams suck.

I’m sure Sheridan not to early before the game got done saying Rose was going to be on “the bubble” still.

oh thats what the link in that other threads about
"Well you're giving me the opportunity to agree with Bill Plaschke and Marriotti, I'm gonna pass" - Tim Cowlishaw
he never said that.
he actually put Rose in the “safe” section, just said him and Rondo were the two-least viable guards in terms of playing time / on the bubble of playing time.
A true friend stabs you in the front - Oscar Wilde
Also, if anyone wants to check it out
here’s a link to a USA basketball video page. One of the clips is a postgame with Colangelo and Coach K. Coach K went out of his way to praise Rose, after someone asked a question about Eric Gordon.

i like rose's response to the best PG in the NBA question.

I'm guessing they start Billups over Rose simply based on seniority
Wasn’t Kidd the starter over Chris Paul and Deron Williams at the Olympics, even though Paul and Williams were clearly the better players by that point? The problem is that this team isn’t really good enough to not start the best players.
Even though he's good enough to start just based on talent
I think the main reason he should start is because his style perfectly fits a team like this. He’s an outstanding ballhandler and scorer. His defense appears to be improving. The one area that he’s a little behind guys like Rondo is in the playmaking department, but I don’t think that’s really necessary for this team. When you have a bunch of stars, you really don’t want a guy that holds the ball and makes all the plays. All Rose needs to do, and should do, is spread the ball around, and look to score from time to time. He’ll naturally control the pace of the game really well, because that’s one of his greatest strengths imo.
Superteams suck.

I think they may start them both.
You saw Billups starting at the off guard position for the Blue Team and I could see a line-up of Rose-Billups-Gay-Durant-Chandler (or Brook Lopez if he can get his energy back).
Good to see Sheridan making progress,
but it’s not really a “breakout performance”. That phrase should be used to describe, say, Eric Gordon’s game. Rose’s game was only a breakout performance in Sheridan’s biased eyes.

hahah so true
Guys, so Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Howard are done with international competition? CP3?
Or will they be back for the Olympics?

theyre saying they expect them back now
colangelo took a hit for threatening them originally i think so he backed off that stance.
most likely durant/rose will fill in prince/redd/kidd’s spots
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
I'd guess Lebron, Wade, etc.
fancy themselves the fucking cool kids and don’t have time for this petty world championship shit. Maybe, if we’re lucky they’ll be back

Amare was because they couldn't get him insured
I don’t think the other 3 have that problem.
Bulls are real close to signing T-mac
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein.
T-mac seems extremely determined to rebound. Lets do it. Another piece to help take out the Heat.

Yeah I;ve been warming up to this over the weekend
Hell why not. I know he isn’t the same player but I can’t help but think that the guy is 31 years old. He should still be in his prime for God sake. Just what if he can fit into the Grant Hill role and seriously contribute in spurts. We’d really have an X-factor situation. He could be the difference in a 4th seed and seriously shaking thing up in the East against Miami. Plus Rose wants him. So question is…Why not?
I love this move if they can pull it off.

Tracy Mcgrady is like the eighth beer.
Sometimes anything over the eighth beer isn’t such a good idea because it goes downhill pretty fast from there, you have to be careful. If It doesn’t pan out, you end up schlammered, eating red hot cheetos and green olives all night and taking a shit on top of the pool table. But, you wake up in the morning, figure out where you’re at and move on. No harm no foul. Sure, you might have a little regret, but aside from a little shit, you’re fine.
But it’s not until you get to around that eight beer buffer zone, become a little more social, and loosen the fuck up already that you have a chance at laying the pipe.
So, yeah, why not?

I thought about this and the versitality of flaming hot cheetos is underrated. The good on them is not drunk-specific or high-specific. They are good no matter the context of inebriation. Just like sex and Led Zep.

Yes. Hopefully Rose and Durant...
get a lot of combined positive press coverage throughout. For some reason, I don’t hear enough about Rose in the national media for someone who I consider a legitimate star from a talent and fan favorite stand point.
Rose looked good last night
esp at the end of that 2nd Q
All I want in life is for UC fans to chant: Deeeeeloooonte during Heat games
Did everyone see Rose's quote regarding T-Mac? I LOVE the last line. He knows he's the alpha dog.
“He was my favorite player when I was probably in like sixth or seventh grade, when he first came into the league,” Rose said. "Then through high school, that’s when LeBron [James] came, and then he was my favorite player.
“Now I’m my own favorite player.”

I hope this isn't a foreshadowing of an egotistical Derrick blooming.
Confidence is fine. Narcissism? Hmm, I dunno.
I doubt he’d do a complete 180 hes just maturing before even his first year he’d say someone else was his favorite player. He stays pretty grounded so I’m not worried (besides its mostly a good thing in basketball)
"Well you're giving me the opportunity to agree with Bill Plaschke and Marriotti, I'm gonna pass" - Tim Cowlishaw
I know right. He should be his own favorite player.
You can tell by the way Derrick plays he’s more confident in doing his thing in the flow of the offense to get the team to win.
by Playboy_BullV on Jul 25, 2010 7:02 PM CDT up reply actions
I didn't say that.
Relax.
Geez, guys, it was a musing, not a statement or prediction I was making.
It shows confidence, yeh, but fame and fortune does weird things to people, as others have noted in other threads. I mostly do have faith Derrick’s head is level and he’s completely focused (as evidenced by his wholehearted determination to improve this summer).
The best would be if he said Noah was his favorite player
But him saying himself is fine. You have to have confidence.
If he likes himself that's fine. I think he gave a solid answer.
And I don’t hate or defend Rose, just speaking neutrally.

I think he meant to say in High school T-Mac was beasting.
Before that would be too young in Mac’s career I think.

Does your right leg kick out randomly when you're on BaB?
If so, I think I’m getting Rose withdrawal too.
so durant had 7 TOs. this is why a crunch time lineup featuring both durant and
westbrook sort of scares me. for a perimeter superstar who doesnt pass durant turns the ball over a lot, and seems to have a lot of 5 or more TO games, which can really be a killer in single elimination play. and westbrook just does a lot of nutty things sometimes, its sort of the downside to his enormous activity level. maybe there is a reason why the Thunder had the worst record in games decided by 3 points or less than any team in the playoffs?
"If I was to answer that question honestly, I would have to lie to you."
- Isiah Thomas, when asked if any teams were interested in trading for Shandon Anderson
this was also quite a crapper game in which durant pretty much had nothing to prove
hes a lock. hes in. he was just out there to set an example. its not like he was playing 100% focused.
in fact id almost say the same for derrick
it didnt look like he was trying as hard as he could. esp on defense. looked a little lazy. but i mean those two along with billups/odom (who also played like crap) are probably the only locks to make the team
someone teach me how to get Sam Smith's job when he retires
yeah but durant does this all the time. im not saying dont have him on the team, or dont play
him in cruch time: thats absurd. im just saying that durant and his teammate make a lot of bad decisions which could be costly in tight games.
"If I was to answer that question honestly, I would have to lie to you."
- Isiah Thomas, when asked if any teams were interested in trading for Shandon Anderson
Hm, possibly
But then again, I think some extra experience/mentoring will definitely get rid of some of those problems. He and Westbrook are still definitely young enough to fix any decision-making faults that cause TO’s

Hating Rondo
is a constant around here, but I really like what he said about the Heat. He wasn’t being an ass about it, just matter-of-factly stating that they haven’t done anything yet and that the Lakers are still the team to beat.
"I want to be that guy. I want to be the reason the Bulls are back."- Derrick Rose.
"I'm never leaving Chicago."- Derrick Rose
I only hate Rondo because it's trendy
… I really like Rondo’s game. :(
…
Well, I also kind of hate Rondo because he’s an asshole, but meh.

and admiring his play are not mutually exclusive.

I don’t hate him def in the minority but hes very overrated at one point in the playoffs people on fb was saying he was the best PG in the league. Also Magic called him the best all around PG…the guy can’t even shoot a jump shot.
"Well you're giving me the opportunity to agree with Bill Plaschke and Marriotti, I'm gonna pass" - Tim Cowlishaw
I think that Rose was the most impressive, period.
Durant was really good too, but from what I saw(only watched the first half) Durant had a ton of turnovers and ugly possessions and got most of his points of easy lay-ins and dunks.

Taking the next step
Rose seems primed in becoming a more complete PG/player. Assists and 3-point shooting will be on the rise this season.
"In order to have a winner, the team must have a feeling of unity; every player must put the team first- ahead of personal glory" - motivational sign at Halas Hall.
Yeah I still think hes been judged a bit unfairly. Not having a consistent long range shooter was bad enough but to have players who didn’t have defined roles…how is anyone suppose to get 8-10 assists a night.
"Well you're giving me the opportunity to agree with Bill Plaschke and Marriotti, I'm gonna pass" - Tim Cowlishaw
Precisely
Assists can only be recorded when wing players make shots consistently. Having Korver will make a big difference, and Boozer will open up the outside for the shooters.
"In order to have a winner, the team must have a feeling of unity; every player must put the team first- ahead of personal glory" - motivational sign at Halas Hall.
Durant
I wish there was way to pry Durant away from the Thunder, He would be awesome on the Bulls with Rose.
Anyone else think that the jerseys they wore were pretty cool?
It looked like Kentucky’s design with the layout on the upper neck area
i dare you to move.
That is great!
Glad your kid is panning out.

that last assist to chandler was beautiful
not the pass or the dunk, but rose reading the defense perfectly, directing chandler, then throwing the ball right there…he saw the play a step ahead
I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!
Most impressed by the No turnovers and 5 steals.
Hope we see this in Nov.
