"The Blazers are willing to trade guard Rudy Fernandez, team sources said Wednesday. However, Portland also is open to keeping the third-year player, and will not give him away for free."

Yawn

What else is new?

Pat Riley is the devil.

Seriously.

Has this not been known since the trade deadline last year? And of course he can’t be given away for free. Technically, something has to be traded to make it a trade.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

However, Portland also is open to keeping the third-year player, and will not give him away for free.

And there’s the rub. As is always the case with Portland, what type of value are they expecting? No shit, you’d be willing to trade him. He doesn’t play, he whines about not playing, and you keep bringing in guys that play his position.

Superteams suck.

knowing pdx they totally over-value what they have so...

they are probably looking for a package of taj+JJ+picks. God i hate those guys.

Out coaching VDN, so easy a cave man could do it.

let them overvalue

It seems to me that GarPax learned from their mistake a few years ago with Gasol and decided they were willing to cut Kirk and move forward. If the Portland GM is too stupid to learn the same lesson, screw him and let them wallow in mediocrity. They may not be in the east, but they are still competition. Let’m lose.

they have a new GM

he is countering
The organization feels that the situation with Fernandez has come to a head, and his continued talk about playing elsewhere has created a situation that requires a resolution. If Fernandez chooses to play in Europe next season, the Blazers could place him on the suspended list. The team does not think it will come to that.

Well, why would anyone trade for this guy then

or, at least, why would they give up any value for him? He basically needs to be guaranteed a lot of playing time (something we can’t offer btw), or else you risk suffering the same situation that’s happening in Portland. You can give away something halfway decent, and end up with a player that runs off to Europe the moment things get a little dicey. Sorry, I’ll pass on Rudy, and I’ll especially pass on making a deal with the Trailblazers

Superteams suck.

by Juiceboxjerry on Jul 22, 2010 9:20 AM CDT up reply actions

How can he go to Europe?

He’s still under contract with the Blazers, and FIBA honors NBA contracts. He’d need the Blazers to agree to a buyout, and if you’re Portland, why let him leave for nothing when you might be able to trade him and get a player or draft pick back in return?

Offer them JJ straight up.

They will say No. Tell them goodbye, and be done with it.

offer them some va JJ and I'll bet you they take it

Why?

Why would they do that? Is that really the best offer they are likely to get? (I would very much like the Bulls to go after Rudy; I like Brewer a lot but feel that they will often need another shooter to space the floor for Boozer and Rose. Rudy is pretty good from distance and and not much of a cap hit. The most we should conceivably offer is the future first from the Bobcats, however, and I honestly think it might be too much to give for a guy who may or may not accept his likely status as a role player on this team.)

he was making a joke about offering them women's genitals for Rudy

hence, “va JJ”

I got the skills to pay the bills and that's about it

Well played by him, not so much by me

I need to drink more coffee and quit skimming.

When Rudy's on his game...

…I love to watch him play. He’s been whining and he’s not played very consistently in the past year, but he’d be a steal and he’s young with a team option on his ridiculously cheap contract…and we’d get his Bird rights…

Id be shocked...

If the org weren’t at least looking into it, im sure they are along with 15 other teams as well.
