Bulls also would like to have Murray back
Sources also named Cleveland as among the teams interested in free-agent guard Flip Murray. Murray is also said to be receiving interest from the Clippers and Chicago, which he played for last season.

Via Fanhouse

I’m ok with him coming back and play some minutes behind Rose… It’s better than having Pargo.

List of hated players: 1. LeBron; 2. Wade; 3. Bosh; 4. Pargo; 5. Pargo... 100. Pargo

by bull83 on Jul 19, 2010 7:05 PM CDT reply actions

Sigh.

Flip Murray is awful and Keyon Dooling was pretty all right and a decent fit for what we needed. Way to go, Bulls.

The Bulls will win 50 games this year and (hopefully) the Central Division for a top 3 seed.

by fundamentallysound on Jul 19, 2010 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

He is awful. In his time with the Bulls last year: 12.1 PER, 48.7 TS%

The only thing he did well was defensive rebound.

The Bulls will win 50 games this year and (hopefully) the Central Division for a top 3 seed.

by fundamentallysound on Jul 19, 2010 7:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Well that's fair. Thank God Pargo is gone and (hopefully) never coming back.

by fundamentallysound on Jul 19, 2010 7:34 PM CDT up reply actions

How did Pargo get to play so much last year? If it was Vinny's decision

to play him, then that would have been the #1 reason for firing vinny. If pax/forman were making vinny play him, then, well, I can’t even imagine. I stand by my statement that Pargo was the worst player I have ever seen play in the NBA. I would have much rather had Randy Brown or Pete Meyers or even Vinny Del Negro suit up and play for us last year instead of pargo.

by BenchPargo on Jul 19, 2010 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions

It's weird bc

In the game where Vinny was ejected late in the year, I think it was Pete Meyers who was the head coach—it was early in the game, and he quickly put Pargo in there……for even more minutes than Vinny would have.

I’d like to think that was the org asking him too. I didn’t get it bc Law looked pretty decent after he actually started to play.

Pargo wasn’t as bad 3-4 yrs earlier for us, but he really lost the little bit of it he had last year, just awful.

So Flip with his 12.1 PER is awful

But Dooling with his 11.6 PER is good?

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Jul 19, 2010 9:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Touche.

Part of it is fit, though. Dooling is a much better shooter than Flip and as a result has a better career TS%.

The Bulls will win 50 games this year and (hopefully) the Central Division for a top 3 seed.

by fundamentallysound on Jul 19, 2010 10:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Wasn't Dooling hurt all or much of last year?

I’m not really pro or against either of them…..I do know Hollinger had Dooling on his all D team 2 years ago, and I liked the few “Wade” esque Dooling things he did back in his Miami days (though that’s a while ago now)…..

Didn't see this posted yet, apologies if it has been.
Also, former NBA coach John Lucas told FanHouse on Sunday at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas that his son, John Lucas III, is being considered by the Heat as a third point guard. The dad said his son, a two-year veteran who last played in the NBA with Houston in 2006-07, is also being looked at by Chicago, which is playing for in the summer league. FanHouse.com

Not saying he’s that good, but he made some good plays on the Nugs last season. The bulk of his starts were when Melo was out. He filled in fairly well offensively, and on the boards.

I don't understand?

Would you rather them overpay for players? Paying the luxury tax for a bad team to me isn’t the mark of a good owner but of a stupid one.

by JSB on Jul 19, 2010 9:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Really? That's pretty much the dumbest comment I've ever seen you make.

That makes zero sense. The Celtics, Lakers, Mavericks, Suns, Magic all have multiple overpaid players.

If they cost $20 million more, they might not be $20 million worth of wins better, but they might be $10 million worth of wins better. That doesn’t make them a bad team. Unless your goal is to win Financial Championships, of course.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Meh

Watson isn’t nearly the defender Hinrich is.

Watson is a serviceable backup to Rose, but that’s about it. I’m not all that enthusiastic about him. I guess he’s probably one of the better backup PGs left on the market.

by RM on Jul 19, 2010 9:10 PM CDT up reply actions

ok, you'll right

Earl and CJ mixed up, still Earl also isn’t comparable to Hinrich.

CJ is young guy so he’s a replacement for Pargo, and backup PG.

Probably a nice kid that fits the Bulls good guy image.

"Maybe Paxson influenced has been a bit silenced :-)"

by exult463 on Jul 19, 2010 9:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Watson does grab a lot more steals than Kirk. I think Watson is more of a disruptor/gambler, whereas Kirk was

more of a fundamental, keep-the-guy-in-front-of-you type. Kirk accomplished his defense by tricks and clutching and grabbing. Watson gets his work done with athleticism. One is teachable, the other isn’t. I’d rather have Thibs teaching CJ than Kirk. More potential. Plus, CJ is the much better offensive fit, mainly because he doesn’t totally suck on offense.

The Bulls will win 50 games this year and (hopefully) the Central Division for a top 3 seed.

You were expecting something more exciting than CJ Watson?

by JSB on Jul 19, 2010 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Watson is at least the 8th man

he is the back up point guard. And I like the Watson signing, boring or not.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 19, 2010 10:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree

You figure Korver is 6, Gibson 7, I guess you are right that would make Watson 8. My bad. Asik/JJ 9/10. I think he was by far the best of what was out there. Certainly better than retreads like Roger Mason or Jason Williams. Fairly young (26) and with some upside. Fits what we needed as well (shooting + bench scoring) for a reasonable price. All in all, nothing to complain about.

by JSB on Jul 19, 2010 10:04 PM CDT up reply actions

They got a pretty solid young player who filled a need locked up on a cheap deal. This is a good thing. It might not be sexy, but it will help them win games.

This is a good pickup for the Bulls because it fills some needs as Watson will be able to backup Rose at the point and he can score which is what the Bulls were looking for.

That may sound boring. But, in a league where bad contracts can burden a franchise for years, making sound player and financial decisions actually puts us ahead of the pack. I’m pleased with all of our signings.
