Televised? I have Clips/Kings on NBATV here.

Fortunately, I’m going out tonight. I think I’ve had enough of summer league.

Samuels is Only 6-9...

We need a guy that can play backup center and power forward. However, we could use Samuels as insurance for trading Taj and maybe james johnson to try and get a shooting guard that can defend and shoot the three

by mazzimo on Jul 18, 2010 11:24 AM CDT up reply actions

He was rated higher

Than Greg Monroe out of high school. There is some question as to whether his stock would have been better if he would have played with better talent in college.

by MrPants on Jul 18, 2010 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions

How well is Ogilvy playing?

Havent heard much about the big guy and I know he was pretty good in college.

He's played terrible

He appears athletically overmatched by everyone around him.

I can predict the future using Norm Van Lier's crystal balls.

Scary that James Johnson

is the Bulls’ 2nd best ballhandler

by YaoPau on Jul 17, 2010 7:58 PM CDT reply actions

Fortunately

Rose handles the ball 37 minutes a game, so it shouldn’t be a huge deal, especially once we sign a backup PG

Deng/Boozer/Noah: All your rebound are belong to us.

by Illini15 on Jul 17, 2010 7:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Brewer might be better

but, point taken. They really need to sign a pg.

by JockstrapNoah on Jul 17, 2010 7:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Offensively, Brewer is mostly a slasher and shot-creator thanks to his fantastic ball-handling skills. Being highly fluid and extremely intelligent, he can dribble the ball with purpose using either hand, allowing him to get into the lane almost whenever he pleases. He’s extremely aggressive attacking the rim and is a great finisher once he gets to the basket, being very creative and having the strength, toughness and intelligence to either finish the play or get to the line.

From DraftExpress.com http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Ronnie-Brewer-64/#ixzz0tzWXSSe5
http://www.draftexpress.com

2 guards don’t handle the ball in Utah’s offense. I think he will be more of a creator with us.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 17, 2010 8:01 PM CDT up reply actions

i would be fine with him initiating the offense

as along we can pair him with a shooter. We need to get a shooter to back up the 2. First preference is Rudy Fernandez, but we will see who the organization gets.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 17, 2010 8:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Interesting stuff

nice find Smurf. I see he averaged 4+ ast/40 in college. If he can just be a drive and kick guy, that would stop defenses from doubleteaming Rose.

my favorite guys on the summer league roster

samuels, almond, bouldin, byars. I would invite them all to vet camp, and hopefully, keep 3 of the 4 on the roster in the 12-14 spots. I hate when teams keep vets who can’t play there. We don’t need Hunter providing advice anymore.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 17, 2010 8:22 PM CDT reply actions

i take that back

after the bulls get a vet big man and 2 more guards, that only leaves 2 roster spots. I would sign Samuels to a minimum deal and let the other three fight it out in camp for the last spot.

I think he's in.

He’s the right kind of guy that, under Thibs, could log 10-15 mins decent basketball. And it won’t hurt to have another young big off the bench to eat fouls if necessary. Between he and Omer, I don’t think the loss of Miller will hurt too much.

by Sir Buckets on Jul 17, 2010 9:08 PM CDT reply actions

From what i've seen today..

Johnson is the best ball handler on this team.
Samuels is the most skills basketball player on this team.
Almond plays absolutely NO defense, but has a real advanced offensive game.
Everybody else.. meh

Also, Johnson seems to do everything above average (namely, dribbling, help defense, blocks, slashing, passing..) but does NONE of those things well enough to be dominating even this level of fringe players.

Bouldin has court vision to spare

He casually and effortlessly gets passes into the paint to anyone who crosses through. And his ball-handling is very good as well. Unfortunately I never see him take shots or get aggressive. That kind of mentality will prevent him from making the squad.

Can he shoot? Can he at least try to finish at the basket? That’s what is hard to see.

by Dr. Handsome, D.D.S. on Jul 17, 2010 9:15 PM CDT reply actions

Bouldin doesn’t appear to be able to drive, defend, finish, or shoot. That’s going to make it real hard for him to make any NBA team.

I think I read somewhere

that the reason was he was told he could easily get a roster spot. So, he’s just setting up other guys to give them a shot. I think they said that the Bulls would have drafted him. But, I don’t have a link, sorry.

What is samuels first name?

"It was a perfect situation for the Brewers," Hill said. "They had a guy up there at the plate [in Counsell] who takes a lot of pride in what he does and he practices those situations, so when it does come up, he gets the bunt down to the right side of the field. They have the perfect guy on first base [in Gomez], who is one of the fastest guys in the league, and they had one of the worst fundamental teams on the field, so it was a perfect situation for them."

He is young too, only a college sophomore.

Oddly..

JJ played better last summer league. I still think he played a pretty good game, regardless of that last TO. Samardo Samuel HAS to make the team, his footwork is very advanced.

I agree

If he was taller he would have been an easy first round pick.

by JSB on Jul 17, 2010 9:29 PM CDT up reply actions

On top of a lack of size..

shoot, if he had ANY type of mid-range jump shot he would have been in the first round. He’s an actual low post player. He clearly should have stayed in school, but as it stands, if he was in the NBA right now, he probably has a top 10 low post skill-set.

FAT JAMES JOHNSON

was still VERY athletic. His new body shape makes him less effective it seems. Last summer, he wouldn’t have gotten his pockets picked like that. He was too wide. The defender simply reached around him and poked the ball.

by Mighty Healthy on Jul 17, 2010 9:37 PM CDT reply actions

I'll still give jj a chance

JJ is still adjusting to his body. imagine paul pierce suddenly playing in a ray allen body. I really think JJ can be solid player in the nba. not an allstar but a solid contributor off the bench

by trig on Jul 17, 2010 9:59 PM CDT reply actions

Stop making excuses for JJ

The guy sucks and hasn’t worked on his game, he even said that he needs to get much better. Listen, i know it’s just the summer league but how can you be the worst player on the team on summer league, playing with a bunch of rookies and d-league players. The only guy i see making team is JJ by default and Samuels……….i personally would like to see JJ sent to the D-league if he doesn’t improve this summer

by Jermal on Jul 17, 2010 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Worst player on the team?

Were you watching the same game that I was watching? He was being asked to do more than anyone else on the team. He didn’t play great today, but he was far from the worst guy out there.

by JSB on Jul 17, 2010 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

exactly..

The only other guys asked to do something more than catch and shoot was Boulin and Samuels.

I totally agree on sending JJ to Dl

I also want to see him play where he is not the focus of the defense. He’s just a complementary player at best

by trig on Jul 17, 2010 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

That doesn't really make sense

If JJ goes to the D League he is likely to be the best player on his team, meaning he would be the focus of the opponent’s defense. Let’s wait and see how he does in training camp and exhibitions before relegating him to the D League.

No fear with Shaq on the team could be very effective Playing certain Team’s like the magic

by al's beef on Jul 17, 2010 11:06 PM CDT reply actions

I'm fairly sure he's a good defender

His measurements are pretty massive, similar to Daniel Orton, and he seems quick with good hands. Even though he’s terrible offensively, he’s at least useful, and I’d rather sign him to a cheap deal than sign Kurt Thomas who will just cut into Asik’s time.

by YaoPau on Jul 17, 2010 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Are you more confident in Kurt Thomas?

9.8 PER last year, 38 years old now. Sure he’s proven in the past that he’s a good player, but I don’t think that means he’s proved a thing for next year.

by YaoPau on Jul 18, 2010 1:09 AM CDT up reply actions

so by "now", you mean today is actually october 4?

that is the day bb-ref lists for kurt thomas’ 38th b-day. shaq is 38, though.

i think the pro-kurt camp is a response to the pro-shaq peops. an "if it’s vet center presence that’s needed, why not get a guy that can still defend and won’t fuck up the team?’ kinda thing.

chris richard, morris almond, samardo samuels, plus somebody-else-ball-handler is fine by me.

james johnson, with lucas sitting out especially, was running a lot of offense this game

he reminded me of an aggressive boris diaw, with the ability to go left, however. in every other way, he would make a worse comparison to that player: lack of scoring move(s), ability to put the ball in the basket or set up teammates consistently, and terrible decisions or i.q.

tantalizing potential that begs the question: better to have known skills and not use them to the max, or better to actually know how to play basketball using those skills?
