"Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Bobcats are close to signing free agent PG Shaun Livingston.
Signing Livingston would appear to put any trade pursuits of Ramon Sessions and T.J. Ford on hold for now. Regardless, Charlotte looks like a good opportunity for Livingston, who would get a chance to compete with D.J. Augustin for the starting job. If he gets the gig, he would make an intriguing fantasy sleeper after averaging 15.5 points and 6.3 assists in eight April games last season.

Another backup PG off the market potentially

damn, beat me by a minute

Another potential bargain off the board. Though we don’t know the terms and I could see the ’cats being a more appealing situation with their PG woes.

I wonder

If Orlando is signing Redick, does that mean that we will likely be signing Ronnie Brewer on Friday?

Unrelated note, sort of.

TERMS

2 years, $7 million

Seems pretty reasonable for a guy who could potentially be a nice steal on the FA market. Why did we not offer him? Weird.

If you are Livingston

And the Bulls offer that, or even a little more, would you take it? I don’t think so. You go to Charlotte where you can prove you can win the job. Not sure Bulls had much of a chance in this one unless we way overpaid, considering the opportunity he has here.

Oh come on..

You know I’ve been driving the Livingston bandwagon, I’m as disappointed as anyone. This is clearly not a situation where we were going to be his first choice though. He wasn’t going to pass that up regardless what the Bulls did.

I happen to agree with you

but it’d mean more if it wasn’t said after every FA, teehee

I bet Livingston has a chance to start in Charlotte

Might have turned down the Bulls considering he wouldn’t get big minutes with DRose on the floor.

by JSB on Jul 14, 2010 1:47 PM CDT reply actions

Is he strictly a PG?

He could have done what Hinrich did with us…We paid Hinrich a lot more to play a PG/SG role I guess

Basically

He really is a playmaker on offense with great size. Doesn’t really shoot the ball very well and I don’t think he was ever regarded as a good defensive player. Can’t really see him and Rose playing together.

he will be good defensively

Law will be fine as the back-up PG

I would rather have had Livingston, but Law will be just fine.

by JSB on Jul 14, 2010 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Really?

I think Livingston has, at the very least, starting PG potential. Law’s a serviceable backup, at best.

He has a chance to start on the Bobcats

unless the Bulls were offering him a lot more money, I don’t see why he would choose the Bulls over them. I hope he does well in Charlotte.

So…gotta say it: this sort of vindicates the Ben Gordon thing.

If the magic match on Redick

maybe we can get the wolves and cats to resume their Sessions swap, and offer to absorb Augustin’s contract and maybe chip in Johnson or a 2nd rounder. He’d be a nice back up to Rose, if we have a solid defender like Brewer at 2. Can run the offense well, and knock down 3s, fairly weak defender.

by reprisal on Jul 14, 2010 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

to this day

when i hear the name DJ Augustin, i think about Derrick owning him in the tourney.

by M 80 on Jul 14, 2010 3:29 PM CDT up reply actions

I would rather have Johnson than Augustin

I think Law is a better player than Augustin.

by JSB on Jul 14, 2010 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

If Johnson is more valuable then Augustin then we could probably get him for nothing

Im not sure that Law better(maybe he is). Augustin is a lot younger and showed more in his first 2 years then Law did. If he managed to improve he could play his way into being a trade piece for something since teams are always desperate for young PGs. Otherwise neither is a difference maker. The main idea is tho depending how you fill the SG minutes, he might be a better fit as a shooter.

by reprisal on Jul 14, 2010 4:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Shoot.

I was getting psyched for a sneaky Livingston signing. Oh well. 2 years for $3.5M/yr seems fair for his potential, although part of my excitement about him was based on thinking we could sign him for significantly less than that. I’m not sure it would have been worth the Bulls signing him for that much, considering how much he’d likely play for us. Good gamble for the Bobcats; hope it works out for them. I’m a Livingston fan.

I realy think that we should go for CJ WATSON as the back up point guard..

I’ve suggested this in another thread. I think he is a starter material and can be a good back up for the Bulls. He avereaged 10.3 ppg, 2.6 ast, 2.8 rebounds. Those statistics are great considering he was a back up. I know he plays in GS but still he can be a good pick up in the PG market.
