Heisley attempts heist of Henry
In short, Heisley decided he didn't want to sign the guy to 120% of the rookie scale. Which, yes, is negotiable under the salary cap rules, but in practice everyone (I think except for one or two players in the entire history of the rookie scale!), signs for 120% of the rookie scale.
Henry's agent is Reinsdorf buddy Arn Tellem. He's athletic, can defend, and can shoot the lights out. If this isn't an obvious guy to go after, I don't know who is.

James Johnson for Henry swap straight up? Done and done.

Sounds good to me

Do we think this is a serious/realistic option?
because I’m all for it.

Well, it is exceedingly strange, isn't it, to pointlessly get off on the wrong foot with a draftee like this
I’d at least give it a shot
BullsTwo > Back up and running!
Seriously.
This should be done yesterday.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
It's a cheap ass move
after you just threw max dollars at Rudy Gay.
I can predict the future using Norm Van Lier's crystal balls.

Maybe that's why they're being so cheap.
It’s possible that they drafted Xavier Henry to replace Rudy Gay. Henry’s a little bit small(6"6) to play SF, but why else would hey have drafted him? They already have Mayo locked in at SG; now that they have Gay it’s going to be tough getting Henry significant minutes. With those two already on board, I don’t see how Henry cracks their starting lineup at any point in the next five years, unless they let Mayo walk.
i think this is why people assumed oj mayo would be either a) available or b) used at pg
nobody imagined henry wouldn’t be welcome at his rookie first year salary.
as far as trading james johnson straight up, that would only save heisley a smidge of $ this year, but potentially cost less overall because the bulls paid that first year (of jj) already? idk about the motivation there…
i posted on draft night: xavier henry, he was the one.
The name of the team is ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS - "I tried to convince them that what they were doing was an aberration, an imbecility, a stupidity without name"
we could also just absorb him into our cap and provide a future pick if Heisley wants to cheap out.

Don't forget the all important ca$h.
We could give them $3M for the privilege of taking this problem player off their hands…
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

I think this is more likely
James Johnson’s stock is probably lower today than it was on draft night last year. I think the Grizz would rather have a future first round pick (especially since they traded their pick for Brewer) than a guy that has already proved to be a bit of a bust so far. If the Grizz decide to put Henry on the market my guess is that they could get someone better than James Johnson. There is a reason we all want to get rid of him.
Can't I just say it's because we're stacked at the 3/4 with Deng, Korver, Boozer and Gibson?
It’s not that I don’t like him and that he isn’t good, it’s just that we have a lot of better players ahead of him.
I mean, right? Right? Right?

I actually think he has potential
But, I don’t think his value is very high. He is mentioned as being traded in every deal here because we all view him as expendable.
That's bc he can't play basktball very well.
Seriously, I think he’d be better showing off his other talents during the bulls time outs at the UC.
Would love to somehow take a chance on Henry, BUT doesn’t Heisley hat the bulls?
I like It
Grizzles Get: Future 1st Round Pick, 3 Million
Bulls Get: Xavier Henry
Done and done.
I think that could work
They could justify it to fans by saying they drafted Henry as insurance in case they couldn’t resign Gay. Once they re-signed Gay, Henry was expendable.
This would make me giddy beyond belief.
I don’t care if it doesn’t work out, but trading a guy I never wanted on the Bulls for a guy I really wanted on the Bulls, well, that’s awesome. I’d be…
I do think this is just out of reach. If the Bulls sign-and-trade at 120% of the rookie scale of $1.8 million and change, then math tells me that Johnson’s $1.71 won’t come within 125% of it. Is that okay to do it straight up?
Under the cap, never mind.

James Johnson
Plus a second rounder if needed. It’s a zero risk, high reward move. If Henry meets his potential, the Bulls could have one of the best backcourt combos in basketball for years to come. If he doesn’t pan out, so what? It’s a rookie deal!

if that's what it would cost, pull the trigger right now.
that said, that could be the Rudy Package as well. damn, in a perfect decent world, Orlando matches and we get Henry and Rudy.
Rather have Henry than Rudy.
More time to gel over the next few years. Less chance of bolting in two years to go back to Spain or something weird. Costs less in terms of what they’d have to give up, I’d guess.

so is there a real chance he gets traded, or is this just a rocky start?
has anything like this ever happened before? only the Grizzlies…
As a Mizzou student I am supposed to hate all Jayhawks.
But I love Xavier Henry. I’d love for the Bulls to trade for him. He would be perfect to have next to D-Rose for the next 10 years.

PLEASE GET HIS GUY!!!
just for the fact that he dunked on LBJ and Noah would make fun of him at every chance he gets when playin MIA
All I want in life is for UC fans to chant: Deeeeeloooonte during Heat games
btw, nice alliteration

Gar Paxsdorf better get on the phone quick!
Call Tellem up and tell him we want this guy, and give Heisley our pick in the1st next year (not Charlotte’s).
The Memphis organization is so crappy lol, and we complain about our guys. They have 2 guys that I would love to have in Bulls’ uniforms, there’s gotta be a way we can bamboozle them into giving up one of Henry or Mayo.
Id throw them J.J
and 2 first round pics to try to get either guy
I'd throw them J.J.
if I thought I could lift him.

2 firsts plus JJ for Henry?
No way. He hasn’t played an NBA game yet and his name is not Wall or Turner.
For Mayo? Hmmm. I would do this, so long as they were somewhat protected. The one issue I would have with Mayo is that he and Rose would be up for extensions at the same point. But, they could be an amazing backcourt.
