We should buy Solomon Alabai...

We do need depth…are we banking on two max FA’s AND a bunch of dudes who will take large pay cuts for a possible ring?

Seems exciting but we should add SOMETHING in this draft

Sounds like the logical move

But considering they already gave the Wizards money in the Hinrich trade, they might not be willing to spend anymore

by Option27 on Jun 24, 2010 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

That's weird

We gave them A LOT, I hope the return is good. What’s the going price for a mid-late 2nd rounder?

Well considering they're at the 37th pick

Blair was the 37th pick last year and got a three-year, $2.7 million contract

I kind of enjoy watching interviews with him

Knowing he could have been coaching the Bulls instead (on his part) and being glad he’s not (on my part)

by wjb1492 on Jun 24, 2010 10:19 PM CDT up reply actions

I haven't been all that impressed with his dealings with diversity

Even allowing for the past two years, I’d rather have that and be sitting here with Thibs now than be stuck with D’Antoni.

Part of that is undoubtedly sour grapes, but I still don’t like him. :)

by wjb1492 on Jun 24, 2010 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Not me...

He is somewhat overrated as a coach IMO…look at what he has done the past two seasons in NY compared to what happened in Phoenix this season without him…

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

you just hate deng!

truth is, two mle level contracts for mediocre players is much more damaging to a salary structure than deng’s above avg salary for his above avg play.

if miami has two top guys to go with wade, and orlando gets chris paul, you’ll need deng a lot more than gortat and pietrus.

I guess, there is no reason to watch the draft anymore

since the bulls probably won’t buy a 2nd round pick because they need the money for 2 max contracts in freeagency

Who are the Bulls going to draft?

Going through the list of available players. I don’t know who I think the Bulls would want
Albi makes sense because of his over all ceiling, but I think Scheyer might be bought.

Willie Warren…No way in HELL he should still be on the board.

I thought at first it was just KC's opinion but now it scares me to know that a source is where he got the idea from
A league source said the Bulls have held internal discussions about bringing back free agent Chris Duhon as a third guard.

I'd be okay with that

If it was for the veteran’s minimum. After we signed everyone else.

by DickFractal on Jun 24, 2010 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Confused?

Who exactly is the second guard to which KC refers?

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

by Dionysus2.0 on Jun 24, 2010 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Since you replied with a name, and not the initials of a small forward on the Bulls roster...

Do you think Joe Johnson to Chicago is a done deal? Does the trade of Kirk mean the Bulls are signing Johnson?

Gotta say, I think it sucks if he gets a max contract (my level of pissedness declines with each million below the max for which he signs)…additionally, if he signs for the max, the Bulls will not have the cap space for another max player (assuming $56M cap).

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

by Dionysus2.0 on Jun 24, 2010 10:46 PM CDT up reply actions

He shouldn't

he’s 29 years old and only played well in the regular season and played like crap in the playoffs

by Jermal on Jun 24, 2010 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions

As many have mentioned before

He may already have a deal done under the table. Something a little less than the max to enable them to sign a max along with him

maybe a 4 year, 60 million dollar deal

by Option27 on Jun 24, 2010 11:21 PM CDT up reply actions

That's been the suggestion from both KC and McGraw

And fits with what those two and Sam have been saying since the trade deadline

by wjb1492 on Jun 24, 2010 10:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Which suggestion wjb?

That Johnson will be the second guard…or that he will be signed to a max contract?

I read amongst the piles of bad internet rumors that the Bulls had a handshake agreement for 4 years, $60M, which with Max raises would set a year one salary at $13.3M…this would leave the Bulls just enough room to sign Bosh or Lebron to a max deal (not Amare, and more than enough for Lee)…

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

by Dionysus2.0 on Jun 24, 2010 10:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I trust KC

mainly because he seems to be the organization’s bitch, and thus he probably does know something we don’t know / is being told to make us like that which we do not know.

by dantheman3k on Jun 24, 2010 11:22 PM CDT up reply actions

so JOHN...

is saying the 4 years, $60M…first year would start around $13.3, which would leave enough cap space for LBJ or CB4. (not Amare).

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

by piccolomair on Jun 24, 2010 10:49 PM CDT up reply actions

i was anticipating it since the trade deadline of this year

its not like im unfazed by it or anything, i mean i was getting giddy about seeing how hinrich would play back under a disciplined system and defensive minded coach…i was really looking forward to it..

i lived my entire lifte in franklin park, and about 6 years ago i moved to bolingbrook, after the news broke it felt like that day i moved to bolingbrook away from my friends and what was familiar.

but whats more surprising is that im not as mad or as angry as disheartened as i thought i would be…perhaps it hasnt kiked in yet, perhaps i understand what metamorphosis the bulls can encounter now…i guess it had to be done in order to usher in the new bulls era…i guess having derrick rose and hopefully chris bosh will make me happy…

I guess sue might be feeling way worse than me, maybe she can easily make the switch and accept the wizards, i know i cant do that. Despite the reputation ive undoubtedly created for myself, i really am a bulls fan, and this team’s success matters to me, I also believe that hinrich will return to the bulls at some point, maybe two years from now…maybe sooner…

Right now im actually splicing all the games i have on my computer, im trying to create the Kirk Hinrich Chicago Finale mixtape as a tribute to my favorite player…ill still follow his stats and try to catch a wiz game whenever possible, and ill trade for him in 2k, but for now im hoping we land bosh and lebron and dominate the league….

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

by piccolomair on Jun 24, 2010 11:12 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm kind of at the same place

Having more cap space could end up being really good for the Bulls – they have to go for it. And I’m actually kind of excited to get to see Kirk play for a different org. I’ll stay a Bulls fan because I’m attached to other guys on the team as well, but I won’t have a problem cheering for the Wizards as well. I am sorry not to get to see him in Thibs defensive schemes though.

I'll take Scheyer over Duhon.

Spurs take James Anderson and Ryan Richards. I’d have been satisfied if that’s what the Bulls happened to do tonight. Obviously, I’m more pleased with the Hinrich thing, but if that hadn’t happened (I would have dismissed it as a rumor), and they ended with those two guys, it wouldn’t have been horrible.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

maybe its on the shelf due to these ‘CP3 to Orlando’ musings.

Depth is more important when you have star players on your roster.

Trading Deng with nothing to show for it is pointless, since he’s actually productive.

umm

Pietrus and Gortat would be solid.. I mean I guess it depends on who the second free agent is.. if it’s Bosh I’d do that deal.

by SoulEater7 on Jun 24, 2010 11:25 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't. Pietrus is a much worse SF than Deng, and he's just as injury prone.

I’d only do it if we got LeBron.

Let's sign LeBron and dance our way to the NBA championship. It'll be so crazy!

by Illini15 on Jun 24, 2010 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions

same.

Even if you get Bosh, yes we need depth – but we’d also need a quality SF, of which Pietrus really and truly isn’t.

Depth is overrated...

Once a team makes the playoffs, only seven or eight guys play significant minutes…what matters is the talent of the top players on the team…

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

I'd say 5

Fisher is terrible. Just hits those big shots once in a while.

by Option27 on Jun 24, 2010 11:32 PM CDT up reply actions

hmm

1. Kobe Bryant
2. Pau Gasol
3. Lamar Odom
4. Andrew Bynum
5. Ron Artest
6. Derek Fisher

I’d make the argument that Shannon Brown is a pretty decent bench player. but. err.. hum. yeah.

more relevant perhaps: were the Spurs built on depth or superstars?

honest question, as I don’t recall much on their team outside of the names everyone knows, just as I’m sure I’ll forget who the Lakers bench was this past year in about 5 years time.

Definitely superstars

Without Parker/Duncan/Ginobili the team was awful.

Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!

by Prevenge on Jun 25, 2010 12:36 AM CDT up reply actions

I mean I wouldn't be upset if Deng is like the 6th man..

but I just think having two pretty decent role guys to fill out the bench would just be better.

by SoulEater7 on Jun 24, 2010 11:34 PM CDT up reply actions

well, let's envision what I consider to be a somewhat realistic scenario at this point

2010-11 Chicago Bulls
PG: Derrick Rose, …Chris Duhon
SG: Joe Johnson, …Chris Duhon
SF: Lebron James, Luol Deng, James Johnson
PF: Taj Gibson, Luol Deng
C: Joakim Noah, Omer Asik

now tell me, is that team better or worse than the following
2010-11 Chicago Bulls:
PG: Derrick Rose, …Chris Duhon
SG: Joe Johnson, ….Mickael Pietrus
SF: Lebron James, James Johnson
PF: Taj Gibson, Marcin Gortat
C: Joakim Noah, Marcin Gortat, Omer Asik

obviously, both of these teams are worse than the following
2010-11 Chicago Bulls:
PG: Derrick Rose, a janitor
SG: Dwayne Wade, a custodian
SF: Lebron James, your mother
PF: Chris Bosh, my father
C: Joakim Noah, their newborn baby.

but that won’t happen. I don’t think.

I liked option 1 out of the first 2, myself.

I just don’t trust either of the two magic players like you seem to.

A true friend stabs you in the front - Oscar Wilde

by dantheman3k on Jun 24, 2010 11:43 PM CDT up reply actions

well I can only speak for myself..

I have watched a lot of the Magic and I have always felt Pietrus had a nick anderson game about him and he can hit big 3’s for you. Gortat is just a big body vet that can give you some beef behind Noah.

by SoulEater7 on Jun 24, 2010 11:47 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm going with option 2

purely based on matchup flexibility. I like Deng way more than Peaches, but having a huge body as a backup (Gortat) is always useful if you need to go down tempo or defend Shaq or Howard. Asik you really can’t trust until he gets a season of NBA action.

they'd have to trade the janitor and your mother with Deng for Jefferson

and you know how much Gar/Pax likes your Mom….

god I never thought I would post that.

Huh?

With or without Lebron, the best players will be on the floor when it matters most…

I'm assuming JJ is a done deal, and now the race is for Bosh or LeBron.

Getting both is not happening.

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 24, 2010 11:29 PM CDT up reply actions

hypothetically it could happen.

Lebron signs, s/t Deng + future 1st rounders for Bosh. Deng’s not too attractive to Toronto, but hypothetically a 3 team deal could be worked.

It won’t happen. God it won’t happen at all. But. er. I’m halfway split between uber dreaming and just saying “well, we got one free agent.”

by dantheman3k on Jun 24, 2010 11:30 PM CDT up reply actions

That's what's so hard for me to swallow

Instead of going for Bosh and LeBron, they’re happy with Joe Johnson and likely any other power forward or LeBron

by Option27 on Jun 24, 2010 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I have to believe they've found out for whatever reason they can't get LeBron or Bosh

Because up until this point, they’ve done things that make sense. Even with the Arn Tellem thing, I would think they’d favor Bosh over JJ.

yes, it was one of those silly ESPN insider rumors

however, er, “can’t get Lebron”? what?

A true friend stabs you in the front - Oscar Wilde

by dantheman3k on Jun 24, 2010 11:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Do you know Gortat's contract situation?

Are you just looking for a new player to hate?

Over the next 4 years . . .

$6,322,320

$6,790,640

$7,258,960

$7,727,280

It’s a bit much for someone fighting Noah, Gibson and FA for minutes

Yeah, I’d much rather have Deng. A small forward whose better than his counterpart more than half the time

by Option27 on Jun 24, 2010 11:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah...

That Gortat/Pietrus deal only really makes sense if its Lebron and Joe Johnson…then we could use the help in the front court that Gortat could give with 25 minutes a night…

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

I’m still mixed on the Deng for Gortat/Pietrus deal.

Really?

Five players under contract next season, and you don’t see the point of the second best player…I would at least for a free agent to be signed (making Lu redundant) before shipping him out for the Polish Hammer and French chucker…

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

I get the feeling that trading him hinges entirely on getting Lebron

Can’t say I argue with that. Really know point in trading a good player, and leaving a hole at the position if Bron doesn’t come. A lineup of Rose/Johnson/Deng/New PF/Noah would still be pretty damn formidable

He may not be married, but he's got plenty of Thibo-hoes.

i somehow responded to option (who certainly does not hate) above by mistake
you just hate deng!

truth is, two mle level contracts for mediocre players is much more damaging to a salary structure than deng’s above avg salary for his above avg play.

if miami has two top guys to go with wade, and orlando gets chris paul, you’ll need deng a lot more than gortat and pietrus.

eh, kinda bleh, kneejerk emotion response, i guess. i won’t miss deng terribly, unless it’s a poor/illogical trade like that for pietrus and gortat. though a three way with toronto wherein they get gortat and deng goes to orlando on a sign and trade for bosh is pretty great, seeing how there’d then be money for joe johnson too – lbj/bosh/jj – all three! plus the precious pietrus!

why are we getting Joe Johnson? Cant we ST Deng for Bosh, sign Lebron, and have money for a good bench/decent 2

even with a 4 man starting lineup, that team challenges the 72-10 team

The last sentence is ridiculous, so we'll ignore it.

Toronto is not going to trade for Deng when they have Turkoglu (a worse player and older) under a similar deal.

I don’t want JJ, but at this point the Bulls pretty much know they can sign him without quarrel, and if it’s for the rumored 4 years, 60 million it’s not a complete disaster. Still have the cap space to go after LeBron or Bosh.

Only way a S/T happens is if Bosh basically forces Toronto to move him, and I think he’d rather just wait and see what LeBron does and follow suit.

It has the same feel as drafting PeesOn did

Commitment made early that doesn’t feel nearly as promising when the moment actually arrives. Yet, Chicago is loyal (ahem, Wade) and sticks to their word.

What are the rules for undrafted players?

Does it work like the NFL a la sign whoever you can get your hands on/ invite them to a camp?
I’d say Collins, Scheyer, and Scottie Reynolds

You must have me confused with someone else, I have never been to Chicago.

I'm kinda setting myself up for LeBron dissing the Bulls

But still, with or without LeBron . . we win

Joe Johnson is extremely better than Kirk Hinrich. Let’s say they’re able to sign any of the big name power forwards, this team is set to make a title run immediately.

Rose
Johnson
Deng
Bosh/Boozer/Stoudamire/Lee
Noah

That’s possibly 4 all stars in your starting 5. Deng is no pushover himself.

So yeah, LeBron or not . . . I can’t help but think big things

by Option27 on Jun 24, 2010 11:47 PM CDT reply actions

Exactly.

That’s why Joe Johnson doesn’t kill me now. If he helps bring LBJ – great. They’ll be awesome. If we follow him with one of those pfs, we’re still championship contenders.

Holy shit. I think they’ve actually done it.

Time for sleep.

Fun read for Knicks haters:

detailing how the Kirk deal totally screws NY.

In serving the Wizards, and only the Wizards, Grunfeld might’ve singlehandedly re-routed LeBron James from the first city to the second.

“We want LeBron!” shouted Knicks fans inside The Theater at the Garden.

They got Andy Rautins of Syracuse and Landry Fields of Stanford instead.

Donnie Walsh still has his precious cap space, but Grunfeld just sent him this little note:

Good luck convincing LeBron James to fill it.

And this fun bit of history:

“Ernie and I hated Chicago more than anyone. We wouldn’t do one thing to help them when we were running the Knicks. In fact, we even tried to kill deals we heard the Bulls were working on. We’d call agents and tell them, ‘Why would you send your player there? Are you kidding? Don’t you know what’s going on inside that organization?’”

Why do I not see more outrage about this JJ stuff?

It’s a lot easier to find a shooter than a quality PF, which there are 3 of available, how do you not go after one? You go for JJ if Lebron passes
