Around SBN: Watch Out For Cowboys UDFA Tim Benford

"All indications are James will make multiple visits once free agency begins July 1. Persistent whispers continue that Hawks All-Star guard Joe Johnson wants to commit to the Bulls early."

Gar better not blow free agency by not having the fortitude to say no.

In other news, listening to Mike & Mike this morning, I heard Chris Bosh use the word "process" twice in one sentence, and other times throughout the interview. Perhaps he's a Bull already?

Hmmmm.

Wants to commit early?

Goddamn it clear Deng off the books! I never knew how much that sweet, humane, Sudanese small forward could piss me off!

You mean Hinrich?

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

I said this last year

that the bulls would probably land JJ and that would be the only big name freeagent they would receive in the offseason

by Jermal on Jun 24, 2010 7:03 AM CDT reply actions

Not what this is saying at all

Likely, the Bulls would try to clear Luol in the potential deal with the Clippers, and sign JJ so they have a good team to offer a second max free agent. If they do this they have:

1 – Rose/Hinrich
2 – JJ/Hinrich
3 – James Johnson/JJ
4 – Taj
5 – Joakim

Signing LeBron makes this a pretty dangerous squad, needing only a PF/C off the bench player to make for a tight rotation. If they fail to land LeBron, signing any one of the PF candidates and signing a decent SF or trading Taj for a SF makes this a pretty great team. I feel like many free agents would look at this team and immediately start dreaming of the possibilities this team has if they join.

exactly. that seems the plan. JJ early, then

go after Bron or Bosh. And regardless of which one you get that’s a championship contender. Also factor in the #8 pick in what the bulls have to offer.

by MPG on Jun 24, 2010 7:37 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't see it

Atlanta don’t need a sf, they need a pg, the hawks won’t make a trade like that……..the bulls will probably sign him and i hope it won’t be a max contract

by Jermal on Jun 24, 2010 7:40 AM CDT up reply actions

Woops.

Should have specified: trading Deng to the Clips for the 8 and picks. We’d just sign JJ at the onset of free agency, and then – when lebron is making his epic love-me tour, we present him with this lineup:

Rose/Kirk
Joe J/Kirk
_/Johnson
Gibson/Udoh
Noah/Asik

Just step right into your championships, sir.

by MPG on Jun 24, 2010 7:45 AM CDT up reply actions

I'd rather have Henry or George with the 8

at a small contract at SG for a while, than Johnson on a large one.
That way the Bulls could field a lineup of
Rose
Henry/George
LeBron
Bosh/Lee/Boozer
Noah

That being said, this is a pipe dream. But I really don’t think Johnson would be a wise idea, nor would he be the greatest selling point. A solid post presence would be a better idea to sell to LeBron or pair with him.

by NerdVernacular on Jun 24, 2010 7:49 AM CDT up reply actions

this is absolutley rediculous, and more worrisome because it comes from kc

I seriously don’t understand the Org.‘s fetish for Johnson. I’d rather have kept Gordon than Johnson. What the flying fuck was the purpose of “the 2010 plan”? Were they seriously counting on Johnson the entire previous 2 seasons? Joe Johnson should be an absolute last resort, and that includes the option of striking out on everybody else and ending up signing a few good role players.

I just don’t get why the Org. WANTS Joe Johnson so badly. Between KC and Sam, it really seems like they would rather pay Joe Johnson than anybody else. Did they not see him averaging 13ppg in the playoffs and missing shot after shot?

LeBitch and KG's constant showboating, chest pounding, dunking with one hand behind the ear, dancing, and pure and simple rubbing it in is so fucking annoying.

Arm Tellem.

Tom Thibodeau you're our only hope

please convince the front office we don’t need Joe Johnson.

i sort of took the Rudy rumors as a sign they weren’t too set on signing JJ.

by M 80 on Jun 24, 2010 9:41 AM CDT up reply actions

Is JJ worth it?

Dump Hinrich, pay JJ almost twice what you’re paying Hinrich?

I don’t think I like that scenarios. If JJ were younger I might do it.

I can predict the future using Norm Van Lier's crystal balls.

If we knew we couldn't get Lebron

then sending Heinrich to Atlanta in a below-max S/T and signing Bosh to a max deal would be a good consolation prize.

Rose
JJ
Deng
Bosh
Noah

Is a contending lineup. Anything that has Lebron in it is more exciting than that, but the above lineup might be a better post-season team.

I think Atlanta might take Heinrich in a S/T—they need someone who can run the point.

DEJESUS!!!

Ill take JJ now

if we can low ball him..he wants big money now..sit his ass on the waiting seat right next to boozer and david lee

Ron Artest. If he can do it - so can you son.

I'm not too upset about this, just as I'm not giddy about LeBron rumors

big bag of nothing.

If the Bulls are worried about ‘losing out’ on JJ and feel a similar need to move fast, that’s bad. If it’s a move including Deng or Hinrich that gets LeBron further interested in signing (think Garnett wanting to go to the C’s only after they traded for Ray Allen) that’s good.

Dear Joe Johnson:

Have you ever heard of the concept of lowballing? No, it’s nothing sexual.

Sure

After LeBron and Bosh both sign he’s welcome to come for the vet minimum… (Or the MLE if VM not applicable)

Hmmmm

Joe Johnson at below max price wouldn’t be a bad thing (assuming we maintain enough cap room to go get somebody else). Considering he seems to want to come here and the reported good relationship between JR and Arn Tellem, I think there’s a good chance we can get JJ on a 4-year $75 mil deal or something like that. JR is a really good negotiator.

Brad Miller is god.
