The Blazers rejected the Wolves' offer of the No. 4 pick for Batum a couple of week ago

This is according to Chad Ford. Hahahahaha, gotta love the Blazers. When will they ever learn? And David Kahn is equally hilarious. I guess this puts a damper on the possibility of getting Rudy and the #22 for our #17, though, but we should have known that already.

The best part about this is the #4 pick Cousins is probably available, so they could fully make up for the Oden debacle and then use him as a trade chip. BUT NO, CAN'T TRADE THEIR GOOD YOUNG PLAYERS!!! AHHH!!!

yea but then they get weaker at the sf spot

batum has way more upside than rudy, is already a terrific defender, and i think the blazers want him to be eventually be their starter. He also is not one to complain about role or minutes, where rudy has complained about both. Plus they have roy who is a sg who plays sf sometimes but really is a bit too weak and lacks some athleticism to guard sfs well.

Also if we were getting rudy i doubt the bulls should care about getting the 22nd pick…id give away the 17 and another player not named rose or noah to get rudy…it would clear up cap space, adress a shooting need, and make us look better for a lebron or bosh (or combo fas)

Say the blazers dont want cousins cuz of his personality (too much like zbo past) what other picks are worth picking up for the blazers at pick number 4. THey could always trade the pick i suppose..

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

by piccolomair on Jun 22, 2010 6:21 PM CDT reply actions

Of course they get weaker at SF.

But do you realize how potentially dominant an Oden/LMA/Cousins frontcourt rotation is? This basically allows them to undo the Oden mistake. You can always deal one of those guys too. Wings are the most replaceable players in the NBA. Rare talent and size like Cousins isn’t. To basically be offered him or Favors for Batum and you turn that down? Seriously?

Let's sign LeBron and dance our way to the NBA championship. It'll be so crazy!

by Illini15 on Jun 22, 2010 6:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I totally agree with you

but I wonder if the whole “Jailblazers” history doesn’t have anything to do with it. Maybe they know the best guy they can take at that spot would be Cousins, and they’d prefer to stay away from a troubled player. Then it basically comes down to whether they like Batum more than Wes Johnson, and I could see them rather having Batum. The only way it backfires is if Favors or Turner were somehow miraculously available, which I doubt. So I guess I can see the Blazers thinking a little

He may not be married, but he's got plenty of Thibo-hoes.

by Juiceboxjerry on Jun 22, 2010 6:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I see it as an incredible chance at a do-over for the Oden debacle, yet they turn it down.

If Oden goes down for the season again, they’re completely screwed and have no chance at a title in the near future. Draft Cousins, and if he pans out as his potential suggests (and he keeps his head), they are a) dominant with him AND oden or b) a title contender for the forseeable future even if Oden goes down. Batum is promising, but he still only played 24 mpg last year and you can always find serviceable wings.

I hear you, it's definitely the move to make, just trying to understand why Portland wouldn't do it

I know they’re in love with all of their young guys, but that seems a little overboard, even for them

If he's not there, then Favors would be. Either guy would be well worth trading Batum for.

Not if they aren't sold on Favors. Favors has more question marks, to me, than people seem to be raising.

Why didn’t he rebound better, given his athletic gifts?

Why wasn’t he more dominant?

Why didn’t he demand the ball more?

They are acting as if Batum is the French Pippen.

Pritchard never likes to trade

his young talent, he overvalues it like Paxson, this a trade you make, take Cousins, if Oden can stay healthy, you have a trade chip you can use to make your team even better. Cousins can get you over the hump, and you need size to compete against the Lakers

by QUINTEN DALEY on Jun 23, 2010 10:04 AM CDT up reply actions

yea thats why i made the zbo reference

i think if you asked blazers edge if they wanted cousins they would definetly say no, they remember zach randolf…he basically was the poster child of the jailblazers… and cousins apparently may come with more baggage. I remember i defended beasley and his baggage. People said he was dumb, he was outspoken and a trouble make, but i said no hed wise up in the nba, hes got skills so he must have the work ethic…and a year later Beasley was checking in a mental institute…

I think the big men that the blazers want can be had in the mid 1st round picks, theyd be cheaper and come with less baggage

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

I don't get it. What has DeMarcus Cousins done, really? Be really passionate and yell at his coach during games?

Play a little rough and maybe a little dirty? God forbid an NBA big man come in with a mean streak.

maybe teams are getting a beasley vibe

although i think there are physical reasons why Beasley is struggling – he isn’t a great athlete and he doesn’t have great size. Plus there isn’t a position on the court for Beasley to defend. Cousins doesn’t have any of those problems – well maybe the athlete part. But with his size and strength, Cousins should have a physical advantage most NBA players don’t.

by Basketball Smurf on Jun 22, 2010 7:57 PM CDT up reply actions   2 recs

The only real worry with Cousins is his weight.

He’s not that bad of a guy, he’s just young and immature. As long as he doesn’t explode to 350 pounds, he should be a dominant force.

Aminu?

There are 3s in the lottery that are better than Batum.

Batum and Rudy are cheap though.

You're foolish.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

I gotta think of something, maybe an ‘around the NBA’ thread tomorrow?

I still like the old way

I don’t know if your plan is for everyone to just get used to things but I can’t get used to it.

If anything, it might encourage more fanposts because it’s the first thing you see and read.

As for tomorrow, maybe combine the Thibs press conference thread with anything around the NBA related included?

by Option27 on Jun 22, 2010 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions

That's true...

With this system, I go straight to the fanshots, I don’t even look at the fanposts unless nothing in the shots interests me.

look at the bright side

the rumors are coming and going really fast too. So let the fanposts go down.

Actually I looked around the other similar blogs and none of them seem to have as many comments per shot/post. So we really don’t need that much time to spill our anger for each post (just look at the Gortat-Deng post). It’s “crazy”

Wow, reading on BE about this is hysterical.

A lot of them are saying that Flynn would have to be included too, and even then they might not do that trade because “they’d have to find a SF better than Nic.” HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

That's the problem with having all this young above average talent

Eventually, everyone wants to get paid. That’s why the Blazers will never win imo. The best teams are the ones that have their salaries structured so that the best players are getting the most money. They’ve got the kind of team that will be saddled with some bad deals and angry players
