Joakim has been hitting the weights hard this summer.
He was on vacation in Hawaii hitting the weights each morning... expect a beefier Joakim... He'll also be into see David Thorpe at some point this summer to continue working on his shooting.
I read this on chat on Poopsworld. Joakim will be a monster next season

raise your hand if you think itd be weird to see noah shoot a jumper correctly
ive come to like it as part of his wackiness. as long as hes hitting it its kinda funny to watch his shot
Thorpe's best known student, Kevin Martin, has one of the ugliest shots in the NBA
As long as he can maintain a repeatable motion, I doubt they’ll do too much to Noah’s mechanics
It will be found an unjust and unwise jealousy to deprive a man of his natural liberty upon the supposition he may abuse it.
George Washington
this
his muscle memory is so effed up that i’m sure his sessions with thorpe are to maximize his shooting potential within the framework of his current motion as well as make it as repeatable as possible, as snley said

he gains no respect with his spinning globe jumper
he doesn’t hit consistent jumpers with that shot, but can manage to hit free throws
Screw the jumper
I wanna see him go toe-to-toe with Dwight Howard with the new strength.
I like that he seems to be taking the offseason very seriously.
"Long Tall Sally, she's built for speed she's got
everything that Uncle John needs....
oh yeah, yeeeah baby, ooooohhh, havin' me some fun tonight."
I read something about him working on his jumper last summer.
He was working on a few fixes to it last summer with him trying to change it completely this summer.
Honestly he hits his ft’s well, and just more repetitions and confidence in the tornado jumper and he could become a good mid range shooter.
Could you imagine
if he spent a summer with Kareem and learned a hook shot? He’d really be the only one in the NBA who shoots it, he could be unstoppable…
i hate bynum has kareem as a mentor and yet progressed so slowly and still looks lost at times
imagine what noah could do with a mentor like that.
AGREED!
Perkins will shut him down in the finals

Bynum is pretty much on one leg and can only play like 10/15 minutes a game.
The real matchup is KG vs Gasol.
I think
KG will bring his A-game, I think the Celtics will win

As much as I hate...
the Celtics I so hope Perkins runs all over Bynum. If only to have Toronto second guess sending Bosh to LA for him and make Deng look like a slightly better option.
im with you on that one
i really dont get why everyone is so high on him.
did he look like he had potential? yeah but so did tyrus thomas
in all these years with kareem as his mentor he has barely progressed
he still looks out of control terribly on the offensive end and his post game is still terrible. a few flashes of decency but otherwise hes just a 7 footer that plugs up the lane and grabs boards. dont see what the fuss is about

"hes just a 7 footer that plugs up the lane and grabs boards"
There’s your answer. Legit 7 foot centers that are mobile enough to not clog up the lane are pretty hard to come by.
Brad Miller is god.

yes i get that. thats great and a nice luxury
but all this fuss about how hes a game changer and hes got the potential to be built around and he can be great blah blah. how highly the lakers value him.
its beyond me.
hes tall. and clogs up the lane. aaron gray can do that.
Bynum is athletic and mobile
Aaron Gray is not. Bynum’s also a way more efficient scorer. You can say Bynum’s out of control and unpolished all you want, but the stats say he gets the job done down there.
Brad Miller is god.
i promise you he wouldnt be anywhere near as efficient
or be anywhere near productive if he was a 1st or 2nd option on a team. he only looks good next to kobe and pau. hes athletic and mobile yes but he doesnt really use it well
by sin on Jun 3, 2010 1:26 AM CDT up reply actions
You're right
But every other player in the league would also be nowhere near as efficient as the 1st/2nd option on a team. I don’t know why you’re picking on him. You don’t put up a 20 PER 3 years in a row just by being next to Kobe and Pau. He’s statistically the 3rd best player on the best team in the best team in the league. That’s pretty good, IMO.
Brad Miller is god.
i agree hes useful and productive
but hes just not all that hes hyped up to be.
i live in LA so maybe thats why im picking on him. i hear constant talks on tv and radio and articles about how bynum is the next big thing. and hes not.
hes a good role player. not a star to be built around or to carry a team on a given night
hes a little overrated. (at least over here in LA) thats all im saying.

I agree with Potoplaya
The thing about Bynum is that, even at his worst, he’s doing things that win basketball games. He’ll never be a detriment to your team (unless he’s constantly injured and can’t play and is just taking up cap space, which he kinda is). When he’s healthy he adds a physical dimension to your team. It’s very frustrating to play guys like him because he can simply get to balls that your team cannot.

well
osmosis isn’t always the best coach. Maybe Kareem just can’t mentor/coach/whatever. Pat Ewing has done a good job with Howard. Just because he has KAJ as his coach that really doesn’t mean anything. Who knows, if you switched Ewing and Kareem, the results might be the same the other way (Bynum could be good, Howard could be slow to progress)
If Kurt had MJ as his coach he’d still be Kurt…who the F knows
Bynum is ok
But not as great as everyone says he is. I just can’t see him being a star and take over games in a consistent basis. I just see him as a decent big man.
Bynum=Moderately overrated.

I just can't believe
That since Kareem retired NO ONE has really attempted to master that hook shot. It was one of the things that made him so dominating. It was damn-near impossible to defend. If a center in today’s NBA ever figured this out they’d be amazing.
I think the reason...
is because a hook shot doesn’t get you on Sportscenter like a dunk might.

i dont understand
why every big man wouldn’t have Hakeem as their coach. Is KAJ hired by the lakers?
Kareem is very arrogant and from I hear not a real people person, maybe he’s just not an effective teacher. I would definitely love to see Noah work with Olajuwon this summer.
Regarding Bynum, he is good…not great. He is extremely agile and has INCREDIBLE hands for a big man. He has All-star potential but he’ll never be a true star….if Kaman can average 18/10, then Bynum could definitely do the same. He’s slightly overrated but he is very skilled. I don’t think he’ll ever be fully healthy tho. And he’s still what 23/24?
Hakeem really helped Kobe
Noah might not have a shot, but he seems athletic and skilled enough to learn Hakeem’s footwork
Holy shit
Bynum’s only 22? That’s crazy. It feels like he’s been in the league forever.
"What the fuck man?! GAD DAYUM!" -Ben Gordon, after being fouled by Chris Bosh, with no call.
Come back home, Ben.
He was the youngest player ever drafted in the NBA...
…and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
He was and he did come back bigger, but it seemed to be mostly upper body. He needs to strengthen his lowerbody and core, that’s what helps one hold post position.
by C Smoove on Jun 4, 2010 10:38 AM CDT up reply actions 2 recs
How would you even be able to tell if he'd bulked up his lower body and core?
Usually, much of those 2 areas are covered by his loose fitting uniform. Do you think he’s really working with a trainer who’s not going to give him direction specific to the game, Noah’s position, and Noah’s current physique?
