Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Ryan (Los Angeles)

John, what do you see the Bulls doing this summer? Do you agree they should focus on adding Joe Johnson in a sign and trade for Kirk Hinrich, then focusing on adding a guy like David Lee? Let the other teams jockey for the stars!

John Hollinger (1:26 PM)

I think they'll hold a lot of meetings, dither, nearly sign a guy, dither some more, watch everybody else make their moves, and then in September explain how this was the plan all along.

I just took the lead from Dwyer

I do have to give some credit to my eloquence.

are you talking the most recent hammerings of the FO or further back? I have been reading you longer than I've been reading

KD, so I thought that your strain of Bulls’ FO hatred pre-dated KD’s well thought-out destructions of the Bulls management. I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised to be wrong, Dwyer’s been writing forever and the Bulls are his favorite team, so it would make sense that he’d be railing against the org for a long, long time.

lol

I just posted this in the main thread, I knew people would get a kick out of it. I was laughing and crying at the same time.

If you're reading this signature, there's a good chance you don't like Vinny Del Negro.

it is strange that the national media is seemingly en masse turning on the Org.

at least JVG said it’s still all good.

Sham’s been calling it ‘piling-on’, and there is likely some of that. But clearly the Bulls are especially media-unsavvy, so it makes sense that they’d want to get their shots in, whether it’s a reflection of league perception or not.

Once they show that they're capable of making a big move

that doesn’t involve lucking into the first pick I’m sure all of the piling on will stop. The Bulls situation is so enviable right now, there’s probably only a few teams that wouldn’t want to trade spots with them. If they find a way to screw it up, it will go a long way towards proving that people were right all along.

I totally agree...

But in my eye’s the media are so “Johnny come lately” that if we sign a free agent, and win 50 games next year, they will talk about what a genius job Pax has done building the team around Rose and Noah and making it a contender. Everybody will praise us and talk about what a great organization we are. Unless we sign Joe Johnson for a max deal, then everybody will laugh at us.

Now, if Pax can use the cap room to sign somebody, and a sign and trade for another stud, he will deserve that praise.

ohhhh, yeah, right.... hahaha.

My bad. I just watched that press conference too, I can’t imagine how I came away with the notion that Pax was still in charge.

Maybe it’s because Gar Forman has zero credibility, or charisma when he talks and I zone out quite a bit.

And then badass Paxon gets up there and basically says, I’m not in charge, Gar’s in charge, but I’m extremely important and do a lot for this organization, so much so that I will be recruiting the free agents…

Which, I actually am relieved about, I would rather have Pax deal with the FA’s than Gar, he’s more personable, makes a much better impression, has 3 rings, and I think that when Pax talks about the tie grabbing and finger jabbing, he comes off as honest and genuine. I think he’s a decent salesman for our team.

Gar reminds me of Melton from Office Space. If the Berto Center burns down, I’ll suspect him first.

The interests in the league know a few things

1) The Chairman is hoarding cash for himself and shareholders
2) Agents will punish him if he doesn’t cough it up
3) Chicago is a different type of market: big city, revenues, but the profits are mostly rigged to coincide with the Mayor’s agenda.

It’s probably a good thing that Gordon wasn’t represented by an agent with few clients and fewer friends.

he doesn't need the cash

the city of Glendale will be paying it:

In a preliminary agreement known as a memorandum of understanding (MOU), the Glendale City Council has agreed to pay $65 million in public funds over three years to the NHL, the current owner of the Coyotes, as part of Reinsdorf’s purchase. The NHL took over the team after Jerry Moyes, the previous owner, threw the franchise into bankruptcy court in a failed effort to sell the club and move it to Hamilton, Ontario.

The $65 million to be paid by Glendale is nearly 40 percent of the total Reinsdorf will have to pay to the NHL to acquire the Coyotes. But although Glendale is paying 40 percent, Reinsdorf and his group will own 100 percent of the team.

Hollinger is kind of a smug douschebag

I’m just sayin.

I agree that its just piling on at this point, but that’s what happens when you attack your coach. Does anyone not still associate the word “choke” with Latrell Sprewell?

If the Bulls do anything good this summer, no one will be talking about organizational dysfunction (even though the process will have still been processed), so get your shots in while you can, kids.

I remember when the supposed perception around the league (and around Kobe) was that Mitch Kupchak was a loser GM who couldn’t make any good moves, and look what happened.

From wikipedia: “After a number of controversial trade transactions over the years, including the trade of Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, and Brian Grant, as well as the decision not to trade Andrew Bynum for Jason Kidd, Kupchak faced severe criticism from Lakers star Kobe Bryant, although he still had the support of Buss. However, after his February 2008 deal to obtain Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies for Kwame Brown, other players and draft picks, Bryant conceded, ‘He goes from an F to an A-plus.’” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitch_Kupchak
