The Thursday home game..

With a starting time of 6:00PM CST, does not give the Bulls much of a home court advantage, considering Bulls fans can barely make the 7:00PM start.

Why not keep it at 7:00PM?

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

Is this the first ABC game the Bulls have been on

Since MJ?

Hopefully we can just play hard, that’s all I care about, play hard and pray. If it goes 6, I’d consider that a major success this year (Seeing as we depleted the team for next year).

If we can really give Lebron a show and pull off the upset, I think Lebron might actually be coming here….so that’s exciting (even if there’s a 5% chance it’ll happen for this mega Bulls fan and a 0.5% chance in reality).

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

submitted last message early

How great would it be if the Bulls and Knicks were able to improve so much in the offseason that they meet in the Conference Finals in a year or two? That was an ABC showdown worth setting your schedule to in the 1990s. The garden, and the united center, has not looked the same since that rivalry ended.

The only problem I have with improving dramatically through free agency is that it’s like the unnatural alternative to developing your own prospects through the draft. You’re supposed to build a team with PRIMARILY your own materials, not strip your neighbors’ houses for materials. Despite this qualm I have, I still prefer it over watching New York squander their stadium, money, and fans in the NBA basement, though. It’s time for a Lebron/Amare

Rose/Bosh rivalry. Chicago is going to have better complimentary players with Gibson, Noah, Hinrich (if he’s still here) but pairing Lebron with another star like Bosh or Amare is uber-dangerous.

What we need

is for Shaq to have a terrible and rusty G1, LeBron to overcompensate and every other Cavalier to stand around looking confused. And for Miller to tease Shaq into technicals at every opportunity

by OwlNotebook on Apr 15, 2010 9:09 AM CDT reply actions

They didn't get Shaq for a playoff series like us.

He’s a rental for the Magic series, should it happen. I think Shaq will play less in this series and when his does come in, his sole purpose will be to bang Noah into foul trouble.

by kthrapp on Apr 15, 2010 9:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Which is fine with me

On an off-day Noah has seven times the energy Shaq does. And he’s not the constant low post presence that Shaq is so even if he can get tripped up into foul trouble all that means is Miller comes off the bench to rub Shaq’s head when the refs aren’t looking.

by OwlNotebook on Apr 15, 2010 10:01 AM CDT up reply actions

If the Cavs play Shaq against us

they lose. Shaq will get forced to foul his way to the bench. Our transition will make him look 50 years old.

I'm excited to see

The battle of the hair (Noah vs Varejao). Noah’s better, but Varejao is crafty in his own way.

I would like to interupt this comment for some breaking news

The only similarities Joakim Noah and Anderson Varejao have is foreign blood and wild hair.

Noah is far superior in talent and athletic ability.

I’m so sick of people comparing players to other players based on how they look.

If someone is white and can shoot, you’ll hear the name Larry Bird thrown around.

If someone has long, lanky arms and is ugly, you’ll here the name Scottie Pippen thrown around.

I can’t recall Joakim ever taking a charge.

If the Bulls don’t make the playoffs I won’t need to watch basketball, its on to basketball.

Varejao

Is athletic, gritty, plays with a very high amt of energy and at times can attack and be aggressive on the glass.

Noah is like a super Varejao with more ball handling, far better passing, and better around the rim (and improving by the day), but Anderson’s a guy if you forget about he’ll have a surprisingly strong game like he did against us I know one of the Cleveland losses this year….

I don’t know why you’re annoyed that I’m excited to see the battle of the hair, 2 of the better energy guys going at it….Noah’s more than just “energy”, but his energy helps him and helps the team. Anderson’s energy def helps the Cavs.

We get Boston

or Miami in the second round.

First things first—and Lebron is quite an imposing thing to deal with, but look at what we would get in the second round. We get an audition for a Chicago native Dwayne Wade. Wade has said that the bulls need him and another star to be an elite team (an eerie echo of T-Mac’s words during the 1999 free-agency debacle), but if we beat his heat without having him on our team… eyebrows will be raised even higher than when (OK, if) we beat the Cavaliers. Those eyebrows would be stretched so far north that bald men would have brand new hairlines.

The other option is Boston. And c’mon, there’s a good chance we beat them if we have absolutely any energy left from a Cleveland. After a second-round series win—nothing else matters. We will be absolutely annihilated by Orlando, but our havok would have already been wrecked.

Getting back to the unlikeliest aspect of the scenario I’m painting:
I have not heard of an NBA miracle of such magnitude in a playoff series since the “Ageless wonder-” and Robert Pack-led Nuggets took out the Sonics almost two decades ago (it was a best of 5). But, if Derrick plays the way he has of late in EVERY game against the Cavs… no one can predict what the outcome will be. Cavs in 6, Cavs in 7? Bulls in 7?

Here’s to hoping a 21-year-old can bring us Jordan-esque greatness on into May. No one will blame him if he can’t do it, but watching these Bulls compete will promise to be more than inspiring.

Orlando is going to win the East

The only question is who they beat in the conference championship.

I don’t really think we’re going to beat Cleveland. I think if it’s going to happen it’ll be fast, the way you never hear the bullet that gets you because it travels faster than the sound of the shot. In my wettest dreams we beat Cleveland in 5 and the Celtics in 6 in the sweetest of rematches. Regardless of the fantasy, though, this is a chance to show off for all the free agents’ agents.

by OwlNotebook on Apr 15, 2010 10:19 AM CDT reply actions

I'll admit

It would seem absolutely impossible for the Bulls to be Cleveland in Cleveland for a game 7. Bulls in 5 or 6 seems more likely than Bulls in 7. All three of those scenarios add up to about a 1.1 percent chance the Bulls beat-out the Cavs.

On a side note, what was the liklihood that we would land the #1 pick two years ago?

Gordon self destructed down the stretch

I was waiting for him to start dabbing his forehead in borrowed bills in the fourth quarter. He was injured, tired, and reluctant to give any more in the final 10 minutes. The Bulls don’t have any real selfish players on the roster anymore. The closest to it is probably Deng—and he’s not really even very selfish at all.

We stand a better chance in a game this year if we remain remotely healthy.

I think this sums up the most consistently annoying thing about the 09-10 Bulls

ie, their inconsistency. Rose has had a couple of crap games but has been by far the best and only truly consistent player on the roster (unless you count Pargo’s consistent suck. And I guess Noah, but, then: injury). Will it be Kirk who shows up vs. the Cavs, and can we count on him for 18-25 pts. and 3-4 threes? Or will it be Kurt, who’ll shoot 3-16 from downtown for the series and average five turnovers in thirty minutes a game? Will we get the Deng who attacks the rim, shoots 7+ free throws per game, and can be counted on for the more than occasional big rebound? Or the Deng who can’t pivot or drive and settles for 18 footers, none of which he’ll make? Will Miller draw screens or get sloppy? Will Taj step up like he did a month ago, or will he continue to be the so-so player of the last couple weeks? Will Flip and Hakim do much of anything?

Six months ago and on paper, the Bulls aren’t the 8th seed in the East—they’re at least 6th and possibly even the 4th. But you can throw November and December away thanks to the lack of chemistry and March thanks to injuries and now we’re almost exactly where we were a year ago (and on paper we looked better against the #2 Celtics in ‘09 than the #1 Cavs in ’10). But you can’t calculate based solely on paper and that’s why we’re a .500 team. Because something doesn’t click over half the time and we struggle to close out against mediocre teams and to keep it close at all against good ones.

I really really really really hope the Bulls of the last 3 games & of the January road trip show up. It’s not like they have anything but pride to play for. No one expects them to win the series (or even land a big free agent, truth be told.) If they can’t play with even misdirected fire and urgency against the #1 seed, I won’t blame any Bosh/Wade/etc. who doesn’t take them seriously this summer.

And that may be

in which case, heads need to be pulled out of asses and draft picks need to be used instead of dealt away for bullshit contracts. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two greatest Bulls players of all time and the two players on whose shoulders our current modest hopes rest were all drafted and developed. They didn’t come to us in trades.
