Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

Right now, with 20 games left, it's not about individual stats or anything. It's about getting the win.

Captain Luol taking another thinly-veiled shot at anonymous teammates? Why is it that he's always making comments like this?

Deng mad about Rose 37 points in a loss?

Why aren't they selling Rose's all star jersey?

by hongydraw on Mar 7, 2010 2:17 AM CST reply actions

Maybe Luol thinks that Rose is scoring too efficiently

he should pass the ball to Deng so he can miss more. That’s efficiency!

Maybe he’s talking about Pargo? But Pargo just has tunnel vision. He may be medically unable to pass.

Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!

I agree, that's a little weird.

Especially when Derrick was so ridiculous last night – efficient, passing well, pretty much just carrying the team. I think Derrick took one bad, contested shot last night. Otherwise who the hell is Luol talking about?

I think he is talking about himself

His statline was horrendous. He’s probably saying he doesn’t care bout his stats, he cares about winning.

I don't think he was referring to anybody

It was just a generic “we have to win” comment in my opinion. If taht’s the case, i’d say warrick and Murray ar more likelyculprits than miller.

Brad Miller is god.

Deng frustrates me to a new level

Why this man is consider or voted the captain befuddles me. He demonstrates zero leadership on or off the court. He makes vague comments a true leader would point the finger in the direction of the team mate that is failing (not via the media). IMO Deng should no longer hold the title as captain. I believe Noah, Rose should step up as leaders of this team and inform Deng to stifle his comments. I think Noah has leadership qualities but Rose not so sure.

by bluezman7 on Mar 7, 2010 12:13 PM CST reply actions

Rose does for sure he was leader of his other teams. Right now seeing him mature I think it’d only help the process to make him captain and grow in that role as well. He leads by example and tries to let other players play their game.

Update: More Deng douchebaggery
“There are some nights you don’t get the ball,” Deng said. “It looks bad, but I only missed six shots.”

And this guy is a captain? Seriously?

Thrusting toward the playoffs, one game at a time.

by Illini15 on Mar 7, 2010 1:07 PM CST reply actions

Every time Deng speaks about shots or ex-teammates he comes off sounding like an asshole

now, I don’t know if he is an actual asshole, but where there is smoke, there is fire.

I didn’t see the game, but I think Deng needs to take more shots. He also needs to work harder to get himself into scoring position.

by Basketball Smurf on Mar 7, 2010 1:12 PM CST up reply actions

WOW

I only missed 6 shots?

by bluezman7 on Mar 7, 2010 1:29 PM CST up reply actions

I pray

That Deng plays great just to increase his trade value.

Give it to Rose and get the fuk outta the way asshole!.. thank you!

The other comment didn’t seem so bad, but this one is some bullshit.

Don’t talk Luol, just PLAY.

by kingles on Mar 7, 2010 3:23 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah the first one was pretty vague

This one was silly. He was getting lit up the other night and hardly got any boards which is unlike him. Don’t turn around and talk about not getting the ball after that performance.

Comments like this....

Demonstrate that Deng has no clue of leadership.

by bluezman7 on Mar 7, 2010 1:39 PM CST reply actions

jamaica

Jealousy should not be the issue it is a team sport. The man should understand this and put his ego aside if he truly wants to win.

by bluezman7 on Mar 7, 2010 1:42 PM CST reply actions

heh...exactly

I don’t think he’s intentionally trying to call out guys or trying to take shots at people…it’s all just unintentional assbagery

by NormVanBeer on Mar 7, 2010 3:03 PM CST up reply actions

I really can't stand Deng

He hit his ceiling a few years ago and when he’s playing against quicker small forwards he is a non factor. Comments like these are stupid and just show how much of a leader he is. Yeah you only took six shots but you didn’t even try and take anything to the hoop last night. Long Range jumpers and that corner three, on nights your night getting it on offense then you should be trying to play some D. Butler ate that ass last night Buddy ….. I hope he gets moved in the offseason.

by Bullsfanla on Mar 7, 2010 3:07 PM CST reply actions

Yeah that's right

Don’t respond to a logical, realistic post. Don’t listen to reason. Go on whining about things that are completely irrelevent to the game of basketball and keep making up excuses to hate a player who’s clearly in the upper echelon of NBA players.

Brad Miller is god.

“We got to turn it around right now,” Deng said. “We got to look at how many games we got left and somehow we got to get wins. Right now, with 20 games left, it’s not about individual stats or anything. It’s about getting the win. And we got 20 games to get as many wins as we can.”

Only a psychic or someone trying to create a story where none exists would take this quote about how important winning is above all else and make it into a shot against a specific player.

You could go through every single person’s interviews, take it line by line, and create your own subtext, but people usually realize what a waste of time that is. Youre not finding a story, you’re creating one.

yup, pretty much

though the ‘only missed 6 shots, sometimes you don’t get looks’ quote later in this thread is a bit of him being a wiener. But not a locker room cancer or anything.

I never implied he was a cancer

Just that he’s a pretty douchy “captain.” S’all.

I don't like that quote

Hard to justify in any context, though I would still like to see it.

No one, everyone.... or somewhere in between. Each answer is just as likely.

Though I appreciate the irony of someone calling a basketball player a “fuking douchbag” over saying that winning is the only thing that matters, and really thinking he has some kind of high ground to judge people from.

Vinny: "[Thrust] means pace, it means getting the ball out, it means getting your back to the sidelines, it means extending your outlets, it means getting the ball up the court into our early offense with plenty of time."

And there we have it....

It’s nice when people tell you up front to ignore their opinions because it comes from a place of complete irrationality.
