Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

According to this quick blurb on Forbes the Bobcats were valued at $175M when Jordan bought his controlling stake in the team. That's down from the $300M Bob Johnson paid to get the expansion team.

That'll hurt.

It'll be interesting to see

how Jordan’s mere association with the team will affect its overall worth.

I wonder if there will be a period where even if they are mediocre-bad they still end up gaining franchise worth.

"What do you think, I just dunked my whole career?" Jordan asked Henderson after making a 3.
"You’ve got to miss eventually," Henderson told him.
"That’s what Cleveland said," replied Jordan

I read somewhere..

that there was quite a few people pushing for Jordan to rename the team once he got ownership. It’d be cool if they could regain the Hornets name, give NO the Jazz name back, and Utah can go to hell.

Utah can be the Mormons!

Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!

Interesting

Reading into the comments, it sounds like he basically assumed the $150M debt and paid $25M. So yeah, Bob Johnson got pretty abused.

It’ll be interesting to see how it works out. If they really get some savvy guys there building community relations and whatnot, they could make a ton. Charlotte is a big market, has lots of money, and they love basketball.

Of course, none of those things matter if the ownership is terrible and can’t figure out how to capitalize on it.
