Around SBN: Despite Relocation Drama, Coyotes Overcome Adversity

Kobe on the Bulls (via TNT)

  1. Bryant on Chicago Bulls forward Derrick Rose: “He is at the top of the list but he’s still young so he has a lot to improve on mainly his shooting. He can handle the ball. He can change his pace very well for a young player, finish at the rim. The biggest key for him is getting that long ball. He has got a pretty good mid-range game as it is. What I like about him is that he is not all speed.”
  2. Bryant on what type of player the Bulls need to help guard Derrick Rose: “They need a shooter. Because he is not a great shooter himself so you need someone to offset that. I like having basketball players that can create as well so he is not the only one that has to facilitate plays for others. That is what I would look for.”
  3. Bryant on Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson fitting in with the Chicago Bulls: “He is an underrated player. I love playing against Joe because he competes. I play against some of these two guards that just roll over. He is not going to do that. He plays both ends of the floor. He is one of those free agents coming into next summer that is flying below the radar but can really change the dynamics of the team.”

This was from the NBA tv pregame show that he was on.

I watched it, he seemed to really think highly of Rose. There was more that he said after, “not all speed” he talked about him being able to bump guys and use his body to create space because of how strong he is. It was a good watch, Kobe really does know the game well, and I agree Joe would be nice next to Rose, I still think Bosh would be better, both in the short and long term

ok... then.

I saw T2 at Walgreens in Deerfield he’s tall. if you’re wondering what his grocery list included: magnums, french vanilla ice cream and a 20 oz sprite

Yes

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

he couldn't get as big of a contract

his eligible first-year max I believe is more than what the Bulls have in cap space.

I'm a little tired with the praise

This is the 5th or 6th time Kobe alone has said nice things about Derrick in the last 2 years. Derrick deserves all the praise he gets from opposing coaches and players…. but its starting to feel like diminishing returns… Derrick’s ego is fine….

I want the first …someone takes a shot at Derrick interview… so we can see how he responds… does he have any of that Kobe or MJ killer attitude? – That’s one of the few questions I’m waiting for an answer pertaining to Derrick’s growth this year.

Really have no idea who would do it cause Derrick seems liked by almost everyone in NBA.

psychology

It is demonstrable that negative reinforcement is by-in-large detrimental. The loss exceeds the gain.

Well, since negative reinforcement is simply used

to create an avoidance of negative stimuli, I would assume that in this case, it would only make it so Derrick would try to avoid the stimuli. I think a demonstrative case would be Dwight and Shaq, where Shaq obviously has some coercive affection.

In the case of Kobe and Jordan, for instance, they have a type of masochistic tendency, which in the terms of my definition of masochism, allows them to reinterpret negative stimuli in a positive way, so that they can reinforce their antagonistic interpretation of the world—giving them a type of control.

Obviously this is gross overstatement of psychologism without any direct interaction and I don’t really think its the right thing to do, but these are real conditions for these types of situations.

I would say what is clearest is that when you listen to Derrick’s tone and language, that he is not a domineering, masochistic, hyper-masculine person, so I would never wish some type of negative stimuli for a gauntlet-like learning process.

the negative reinforcement idea is fair.

I am just curious to see how Derrick would respond to a negative quote.

The main theme of this Bull’s season was Derrick’s growth as a player. Questions to be answered back in October….

Would he take over end of games – check
Would his defense improve – Incomplete
Would he play at All Star level- check
Would he develop a 3pt shot – Incomplete ( 27%) yet he’ll take them in offense

How will he handle adversity by media or by another player – This is the question I’m still looking for an answer. I’m using MJ and Kobe as examples because they are both known for taking a quote from the press or opposing player and using it as motivation. If you think that idea is too meatball – there are written examples like the Jeff Van Gundy quote during playoffs or the Jordan Stopper stuff… or will Kobe win one without Shaq motivation ,Kobe has mentioned and used. I haven’t seen anything written about Lebron and if he is as vindictive as Kobe and MJ were.

If Derrick’s already an All Star – at what point is it fair to wonder how he ll handle this? Last year and this year… I’ve been on the side of argument that you absolutely rush him into every situation possible because he was the most talented player on team during his first practice. So I have no problem wondering already how Derrick is gonna handle a negative quote directed at him.
