My interaction with Bulls players and coaches

I work as a valet for restaurants and some club venues in the city. Some of these places are frequented by Bulls players. One of the more popular places is a club in the south loop called The Shrine. This was the location of LeBron James blackout party after the Jay-Z concert last Thursday and is frequented by Jerome James, Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson, Flip Murray and Hakim Warrick. Some are brief accounts but I just wanted to lay them out.

Star-divide

Jerome James - He comes to the club most frequently out of the group. He drives a sick Rolls Royce Phantom with suicide doors that you can see here (forgive my douche co-worker in the picture), and he is by far the most generous of the players when he tips. Also, James is the only guy with a car to note, everyone else justs drives, escalades, BMW's or Mercedes.

Taj Gibson - He is fairly low key when he rolls up. He drives a nice car, but nothing special.

Flip and Hakim - They are are really cool, but nobody really knows who they are outside of the guys I work with who watch the NBA.

Derrick Rose - Derrick is one of the more interesting of the bunch. He comes with a small group (not unusual since everyone of these guys comes with at least 2-3 cars in their group), but they really protect him. I knew who Reggie Rose was the second he stepped out of the car. He kinda looks like rose, but is built like a rock and immeadiatley was scanning the area and checking things out before I even knew what car D Rose was in. By the time Reggie figures thigns out, Rose is in the club escorted by several friends. I talk with Reggie when they come and he is a nice guy and they are very generous.

The LeBron James Hennessy "blackout" party
- This party was nuts. Nearly the entire Cavs team showed up. I was at the vip entrance for the players and Jay-Z's group. It was interesting to me to see the hysteria that surrounded Lebron, Jay-z and Rose. They were the gods that night and they left as quickly as they came. Here are some bullet points from the party.

  • I can confirm that Lebron was indeed drinky when he arrived and hurried inside.
  • Delonte West is every bit insane as he appears to the naked eye.
  • Anthony Parker came before Lebrons limo pulled up with the team and was legitimatley shocked that I knew who he was.
  • Jay was really nice. Dapping fans and taking time to sign autographs.
  • Julius Peppers was there with Tank Johnson (appearently they are friends... thats goign to end well) and while Tank left early Julius Stood outside for about 10 minutes waiting for his car and NOBODY knew who he was. Delonte West was getting more attention that Peppers was.
  • Hakim, Jerome and Derrick all came and things were pretty much the same for them except for the hysteria surround Rose.

Bulls Coaches - I have seen them at resturants before after games. VDN has come and was a really nice guy, despite the fact that he looked like he hadn't slept in days or had just dealt with immature children for a few hours. In either case he was great and was generous. Pete Meyers and Lindsay Hunter came another time and Lindsay is every bit the gentlement he is made out to be, but niether guy tipped.

Its been interesting for me to see these guys up close and personal. I'll let you know if I find anything else interesting out.

cool recap

I saw West @ Club Myst a while back, and he does look nutsy…esp since he was hanging with Thabo out of all people. Hope you got an autograph or sum cool

I almost hit up Peppers, but I chickened out

I am not really an autograph guy to be honest. I would rather have the memory than anything else. My co-worker has gotten Rose’s autograph and he was cool about it.

Very interesting stuff

I look forward to more posts like this. All we peons out in the burbs see is the “media” image they create and of course them on the court. Showing how they are as people is certainly an additional dimension.

As a half-joke, you should tell them to post here. I seriously doubt any of them would, mostly because of how negative this site can be, but it’d be cool if even Jerome James gave a player’s perspective to our “discussions”. I dunno if that would violate their contracts in any way, but since tons of players have twitters these days, I don’t see how Blog-A-Bull would be any different. Of course, that assumes you talk to them more than “hello, sir”.

I agree

Unfortunately, you nailed it. I don’t talk with them much, but I do talk to Reggie a little bit.

I've been told

that this is at least his second Rolls. They won’t let you buy the version he has unless you have previously owned one of their cars. I fear James may be destined for the Antoine Walker fate though. He throws around unholy amounts of money every time he comes by.

Are you Facebook friends with Kirk?

I’m pretty sure it’s not a real page, but it is interesting that Facebook keeps suggesting I reconnect with him.

by Ozzie Montana on Mar 24, 2010 1:36 PM CDT up reply actions

i dont have a facebook

i dont believe in it…its seems cheap and fake to me, to me it seems that if i really want to contact my friends i should pick up the phone and call them and vice versa. Maybe if i was still in high school id have a face book just because its the “cool” thing to do, but i dont get the appeal of it at this point in my life. I can easily just email my friends or call them, and i completely hate the phrase “hey, ill face book you later” or “facebook me tonight!”, i guess i dont care much about social connections and networking…and believe personal connections dont need the aid of facebook to exist.

/end: facebook rant

Even if there was an official hinrich facebook page id be skeptical if it was actually him, and not his agent or a guy his agent hired to just chat with fans, otherwise its probably a more psychotic fan/hater who is impersonating him to meet girls or something. I cant see hinrich actually being into facebook, if he has the time to go on facebook, then thats time he could be using to better his shot…

chris duhon is on there too

it is hilarious to see the amount of girls that write on his wall with messages like “had so much fun last night” or “can’t wait to see you this weekend” or "chris, when are you going to call me ;( ". no incriminating party pictures though.

aaron gray was also on for a while, and then some dude on realgm who was facebook friends with him decided to announce to the board that he had gotten “in a relationship” with some chicago-area swimsuit model. gray then created a new account and deleted the old one.

good memories. when we first drafted him i tried to send him a FB message on his pitt account for an interview, but no response.

What's the difference?

Between an Email & a facebook message? It’s the exact same process, you’re just signing on to facebook instead of whatever email client you use.

I don’t get the appeal of friending a famous person on facebook myself, but for real friends it’s a much easier way to share pictures, keep up to date w/ them, or message / invite large groups to events, then any other form of communication and much less time consuming.

by Grinder in Training on Mar 25, 2010 8:52 AM CDT up reply actions

whats the difference?

i honestly wouldnt know since ive never used facebook, but if what you say is true and they are both extremely similar, then it stays on my course of “theres no point of me having a facebook”. From the limited information i have of facebook, id say that the big difference is the showoffy nature of facebook, where other friends (and if you dont have a private setting on then the general public) can see the comments you leave your friends and other people, not to mention setting what your mood is (hey everyone im sad, so cheer me up!!!) and having comments that are more…is the word pc, just so you dont offend other friends or people that would view your comments…then to me theres teh concept of family and friends, i have quite a bit of family here who i talk to regularly, and i tend to keep my family and friends a bit seperate, with facebook id assume all that would meld together.

Case in point my brother and cousin have face book, and often times my cousin will publically announce changes to my brothers facebook, it doesnt bother my brother much but if i were in his place it would annoy the crap out of me….

Then theres the loose concept of friends on facebook. At work i always have coworkers who ask me if i have facebook, i luckily can answer no…but what if i did…these coworkers are okay, but id never call them my friends, but what if they want to be my facebook friend…? I wouldnt want to add them, and that might lead to a conflict ive heard before: “why did you reject my friend request” “why didnt you facebook me back” “your never on facebook!!!” too much hassle….

I hear facebook has tons of different features, i doubt id ever have time for most of them, i mean the people i know spend as much time on facebook as i do on blogabull, so i can assume that facebook has qualities that can be addictive, i already feel like i waste too much time on blogabull to begin with, adding another similar addictive site would only take up more of my time….not to mention that at least with blogabull i have an outlet for the constant basketball related thoughts that rummage through my head at 100mph on a daily basis, facebook would just be a waste of time for me…

Im not knocking the people that use facebook, i mean if it works for u then thats cool, if you enjoy it thats fine, if you have reasons that make it work for you, good for you…but the thought of ME having a facebook just seems annoying to me, not to mention meeting people who constantly are trying to get me into facebook…its just become a huge turnoff. If i need to communicate with someone, i should pick up the phone or just send an email, its more personel that way, and requires more of an effor, and i believe those who i consider my friends deserve such effort….

It's only "showoffy"

If you make it so.

You can make your account private to only network with people that are your friends. The features are just like anything else, go to Yahoo and there are a ton of things you can do, or you can just have an email account. I don’t use any of the games or applications or whatever, just don’t like I don’t use google Buzz or play Yahoo! games, even though I have a gmail & yahoo account.

Also, you can have different privacy settings.. so co-workers, friends, family can’t all see the same pictures or whatever, so again that’s a non-issue, you can keep them separate.

The fact is you’re naysaying something you’ve never tried which is just stupid. You’re making it harder for your friends to contact you, and an email is not more personal, which you would know if you had a facebook account. I’m not saying you should get it, but your reasons to not have it are stupid.

by Grinder in Training on Mar 31, 2010 10:41 AM CDT up reply actions

im saying

if im not gonna use any of its features, then why would i even bother making an account?? Im not bashing facebook perse, ive stated that i get why people might use it, and if its something they like then cool, but i think for me, its pointless and a waste of time, why create it, why should i, its not gonna make me MORE in touch with any of my friends, and i dont care about meeting some of my old friends that ive never spoken to for 5+ years because…well theres obviously some reason neither of us made an effort to stay connected.

The only reasons i would use facebook, would be for its features that cannot be duplicated through typical measures of email, and those are teh showoffy waste of time functions that i dont care about, so if i already have the basic concepts of facebook down just through whatever email i use, and i dont care for the special features unique to facebook, why the hell should i have a facebook? So i can be IN? To achieve some sort of popularity, is it not normal to not have a facebook? Should i be checked into some clinic to look for ailments?

Of course not, its simple, i dont need a facebook, i dont believe in whatever deep friend crap they try to sell, and i dont care about the cool features that are more of a waste of time than this blog, while being less stimulating. Whatever i would use facebook for, i could simply achieve via email..

You are absolutely right,

Im in Arizona for school, and i keep in touch with everyone back in chicago thru email so its pretty usefless, i keep it deactivated a lot since its huge waste of time

by regui8er on Apr 1, 2010 9:43 PM CDT up reply actions

yea for me email is alot more convenient

i get stuff from school through email, i can send projects and essays through email, when my bank statements or credit card statements are up, i get an email about it, so i can quickly handle work, school, and then if i wanted to get in touch with a friend or send him something, or send a picture to a family member, i just email it. I dont have to leave the email site to do any of those things, im pretty sure keeping track of ur hw is impossible on facebook, while a click away in my email client. I also wont get sidetracked (much) from wierd friend requests or invites….so yea…

So you said Lebron and Rose were in the same VIP booth or something right? So did they look like they were talking a lot(I know Rose barely says anything) but did they seem like they were getting along, laughing, having an actual conversation?

Just curious…

They came at different times

They were in the same VIP section, but LeBron basically came with the entire Cav’s team in 5 trucks. Rose came after that with 5 cars and his own crew so I doubt they were spending a lot fo time together in there.
