Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

It was unknown if the Jazz committed to trying to re-sign Boozer this summer as a free agent, but the team did praise Boozer for contributing to the Jazz's success on the court as well as to the chemistry in the locker room this season.

========================================

He's been saying all the right things lately, not to mention playing like a beast. Money-wise though, they would still have to pay the tax. Will be interesting how this plays out.

contract year behaviour

beware of buyers.. might get one good year out of 5

I think how hard Utah tries for Boozer depends mostly on what draft pick they get

If they land the no.1 or no.2 pick, I think they take Evan Turner, pay the tax to bring back Boozer and go for the title. If they end up drafting lower, I think they just target one of the top big men like Cousins or Favors and start rebuilding.

Last year Deron Williams was calling Boozer out on being a distraction.

Personally, I can’t see a scenario where they pay him near max money when Milsap is under contract and they’re assured a top 10 pick (Cousins, Favors, Aldrich, Aminu).

exactly my reaction

they are playing nice to work on a possible sign and trade this summer.

by Basketball Smurf on Mar 21, 2010 7:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Why exactly should we trade Deng for Boozer when we can just sign him outright?

And give me a reason besides your usual “Deng sucks” garbage.

so predictable souleater.

"Oooohhh, cat in the wall, eh? Now you're talkin' my language."

by TheMoon on Mar 21, 2010 8:02 PM CDT up reply actions

because if we do that, we could than sign another player

with our open cap space. I’d trade Deng for Boozer in a heartbeat. I think the Bulls need the post presence, Boozer is a better fit with Rose and Noah, and its easier to find a wing player than a post player. Deng has a really bad contract. If you can get Boozer to sign a $12 million a year, 4 year deal, you could than go out and still pursue a max guy. And now you look more enticing to guys like Lebron, Wade and Joe Johnson, in my opinion.

I don’t think this will happen, but a man can dream.

by Basketball Smurf on Mar 21, 2010 8:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Boozer is obviously the better player

But I’m not going to call Deng’s contract bad because he’s injury-prone and then turn around and say Boozer is worth the same money. He’s the same risk as Lu to break down every year.

by Ozzie Montana on Mar 21, 2010 8:28 PM CDT up reply actions

What other player could we get?

If we could get Wade/LeBron + Bosh/Boozer/Stoudemire, sign me up, but I think the odds of that are pretty slim. If we got Wade/LeBron I’d then explore S + T options with Deng, but you have to go after Wade/LeBron first in any case. And if that doesn’t happen the next best option would be Joe Johnson + Bosh/Boozer/Stoudemire. If you think Deng has a bad contract, I can assure you that the contract needed to get JJ will be much worse. I think there’s an excellent chance that, on the whole, Deng will be a more productive player than JJ over the next 5 years.

there is also Rudy Gay

I’d go after Gay before Johnson, especially if Deng is gone.

by Basketball Smurf on Mar 21, 2010 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Gay's a marginal upgrade at best over Deng

Gay has a PER of 16.8 compared to Deng’s 16.7, and Deng’s a much better defender. The only reason I’d rather have Gay is because of Deng’s injury concerns.

Also, Memphis likely won’t take back Deng’s contract in a S + T (if they would, they’d probably just match the offer for Gay), meaning we’d have to use Deng in a S + T for Bosh/Stoudemire/Boozer. The problem with that is that if we S + T away Deng for our max FA first, we’re screwed if we don’t get Gay (we’ll have a boatload of cap room and nobody to spend it on, or at least nobody better than Deng), or if we get Gay first, we’re screwed if the Deng-for-maxPF deal doesn’t go through (we’re stuck with Gay and Deng and no cap room). To me, that’s too much of a risk to take for Rudy Gay.

there is no risk involved

the Bull could easily secure a verbal commitment from Gay, Wade or James before they trade Deng for Boozer.

by Basketball Smurf on Mar 21, 2010 10:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Verbal commitments aren't binding

Didn’t Elton Brand verbally commit to resign with the Clippers and pull a 180?

And I think Boozer

has a history with verbal commitments too. Poor Cleveland.

Bosh or Bust

by JockstrapNoah on Mar 22, 2010 10:48 AM CDT up reply actions

there is still little risk in trading Deng for a better player

your love for average players is well documented. i’ll leave you to ways of figuring out how a team that starts Deng and Hinrich will ever be anything more than also rans. Hinrich who sucks and Deng who can’t finish a season healthy.

by Basketball Smurf on Mar 22, 2010 11:36 AM CDT up reply actions

Deng's not anymore injury-prone than boozer

Or Wade. Or stoudemire. And bosh has missed his share of games as well.

Brad Miller is god.

by Poloplaya14 on Mar 22, 2010 10:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Rose and Gay are young and athletic enough where they could still become at least average defenders.

But I agree with your point. Also, Gay needs the ball in his hands a lot, and I don’t know how effective he’d be as a third option. This is opposed to Deng who’s very good at moving without the ball. I’d definitely prefer a healthy Deng to Gay.

we already got bosh

He is sick of how his Raptors teammates plays. He’s in Toronto and moving to Chicago wouldn’t be a biggy because his friends and family will be close by. Bosh said in a interview that he wants to join a team that’ll build around him. Rose and somewhat Noah are Bulls franchise players, but they’re not at the superstar level to entirely control how they run. BOSH FOR 2010 BULLS POWER FORWARD!
