"No," Hodges says flatly when I ask him at one point in the first half if any players on the team stand up to Kobe Bryant and critique him if he does something detrimental to the team. On this occasion it was Bryant not sprinting back on defense after turning the ball over with a bad pass.
"Not one. They all kiss his a--."
I follow up by asking whether anybody on the Bulls teams that he won rings with in 1991 and 1992 ever called out Michael Jordan, a similar ball-dominant, once-in-a-generation talent with just as domineering a personality as Bryant.
Hodges looked at me straight in the eye, slowly raised his hand like he had the correct answer at school and broke into a wide smile.

Craig Hodges as a Vinny replacement? Do we have the players to work the triangle?
I think Noah could do it with his excellent passing ability and burgeoning offensive skills. I think Derrick has shown an ability to work opposing PGs in the post when he feels like it and certainly has the talent to be a volume scorer in the Kobe mold (just from the PG slot rather than the SG slot).
Deng has shown some ability to work in the post. The biggest problem would be that the triangle values spacing so much and the Bulls don’t have very many floor spacing shooters on the team at all. But since they are only (for certain) returning 6 guys next year from this squad (Rose, Kirk, Deng, Taj, JJ, Noah), they could try and totally revamp their look.
Kirk Hinrich sucks. The end.

I'd guess no chance
I can’t see Reinsdorf touching Hodges after his White House stunt and subsequent lawsuit. It sounds like Hodges is a good man who might be a better coach than Vinny, but he’s the furthest thing from a company man.

Ew, gross.
Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!
I'd been wishing that ever since Rambis was available...
except he isn’t now…
Hodges is too outspoken to be a head coach.
Bryan Shaw, on the other hand, fits the bill as a company man who paid his dues as an assistant. He’s won a title, so the front office can sell him on a “winners pedigree” mantra.
It really doesn’t matter. Unless there’s a significant upgrade in talent, the head coach is irrelevant.

So the guy telling the story is the only one who is a "man" enough to take on a super star?
uh huh…
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

Very interesting and informative read from someone who seems to understand the nuances of the game and what it takes to win
which is why he would never be hired by the Bulls, even as an assistant. All the crap surrounding him would be jealous and resentful of someone who actually knows what he’s doing and doesn’t hold back.
If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.
