Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

Ed: This seems like the big news of the day. Coupled with an improbable win by the Raptors last night, our playoff hopes seem to be dimming.

On the eighth day of his absence, Luol Deng revealed he originally was told he could miss one to three weeks with his strained right calf.

Coach Vinny Del Negro then piled on by saying Deng suffered a setback Wednesday after trying to run on the injury both Tuesday and pregame Wednesday. Deng, limping noticeably in the Bulls' locker room, missed his fourth straight game.

How did he get injured in the first place?

I can’t remember… It’s not easy to strain your calf that badly.

by BigBabyCollin on Mar 18, 2010 8:59 AM CDT reply actions

his footwork is pretty garbage. his feet are awkwardly big too.

he’s just that typical recruited dude that was exposed to basketball because of his height.

by blockedshot on Mar 18, 2010 9:19 AM CDT up reply actions

It's bullshit

They’re reporting it as a strained right calf muscle. It’s more likely he reaggravated the fracture in his tibia on his right leg.

Good luck Deng

hold your head, and please just krazy glue for your parts next thime. Elmer’s glue is not working

by Belize on Mar 18, 2010 9:19 AM CDT reply actions

i love deng, but he just sux for all the opportunities he's had

rose, gibson, and noah are the only legit players on the bulls. bulls are really broke right now and unless they get a big man, I won’t be watching much more games

by blockedshot on Mar 18, 2010 9:21 AM CDT up reply actions

8 man rotations really take their toll come all-star break and later....

Bulls are feeling the effects.

Too bad Turus is not around to band-aid some of the wounds on the team. He had a few weeks off early in the season (coupled with Vinny’s propensity to ‘save’ Tyrus from playing too many minutes anyway)….

I bet the young legs of a guy who is fresher than the rest of the team (and ability to make game-changing plays) could have stopped this losing streak somewhere along the way…
But I am rehashing old news of a bygone period in Bulls history. And you know what ‘they’ say (and would like us to believe), let insolent bygones be bygones.

All your base are belong to Vinny.

Ok Deng defenders

Let’s here it. Deng haters have been saying that one of the reasons we hate him is because he’s injury prone and all we heard was “18 and 8 for a SF is great!”, or “Hey that contract is on par for a player at his position giving you 18 and 8.” Well what good is it if he isn’t on the court?

I’m so sick of the Deng and Hinrich act that it makes my head hurt! Talk about stealing money.

He's missed 2 more games than Rose.

Players tend to fall apart when they are on a team with 6 NBA caliber players.

by Ozzie Montana on Mar 18, 2010 4:25 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess I must've missed

that half a season from last year that Rose missed or the countless Playoff games Rose has missed too. Whoops silly me.

by Dils on Mar 18, 2010 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions

You can't compare those two.

One player is a star you can build around and the other player is a stat sheet whore.

by SoulEater7 on Mar 18, 2010 5:36 PM CDT up reply actions

you do realize noah and rose are both out as well, having Luol Deng wouldnt help

us that much. Hes not the type of player that takes over games, notice how we made it to the playoffs last yr without his stat whoring arse.

by krypto22 on Mar 18, 2010 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions

They had another stat whoring ass in BG

And yes, he would help dramatically. For one, you wouldn’t see lineups of Pargo, Law and Murray

by Option27 on Mar 18, 2010 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Lol

I think BG was more of a clutch shooting whore. Deng not so much.

by Dils on Mar 19, 2010 8:34 AM CDT up reply actions

He's good

But can’t stay healthy to save his life.

by T.Moore on Mar 19, 2010 11:19 AM CDT up reply actions

One to Three Weeks? Well, it's not like the Bulls org has ever been honest about Deng's injuries

…chalking it up to weird excuses like “Deng’s just still learning how to play with Rose” all last year. Deng (when healthy) had a pretty decent season this year. Better than last year anyway.

I thought it was funny that Hinrich while suspended couldn’t watch the Memphis game at his hotel because the game was blacked out locally, so he had to go to a sports bar to watch it.

by KentuckyBullsFan on Mar 18, 2010 4:13 PM CDT reply actions

My conspiracy theory..

If the bulls “catch” one of the teams currently below them (they’d just have to give up about 5.5 games), the get the #10 pick, and the glut of pretty good PF’s available

Like, say, Patrick Patterson of Kentucky – A bruiser inside who is a strong presence around the basket. The don’t have to trade that one to the Bucks. Perhaps many of the Bulls could play right now if there was a real necessity, and I’m not sure that management sees the value. Like I said, conspiracy theory – not sure I totally buy it myself, but worth discussing.

by DisCUBbobulated on Mar 18, 2010 6:51 PM CDT reply actions

Currently a 6 game difference between Bulls and Clippers

If they had really been planning on tanking to get the #10, they would have needed to shut down Rose and Deng much earlier

It will be found an unjust and unwise jealousy to deprive a man of his natural liberty upon the supposition he may abuse it.

Trade this moron, hes useless. How does he manage to get hurt, he doesnt even drive

he just stands there and misses jump shots. Wish we signed BG instead of this moron

by krypto22 on Mar 18, 2010 6:55 PM CDT reply actions

maybe he managed to get hurt

While he was in the paint pulling down 7 and half boards a game? Seriously the guy may get injured too much, but you can’t deny his talent. He also has the highest 3P% on the team…

by tuff-gong on Mar 19, 2010 5:12 PM CDT up reply actions

I think this injury report is nonsense

Deng’s right tibia is acting up again. He’s probably reaggravated the stress fracture in his right tibia. The NBA’s doctor of the year can’t control how the Bulls report the injury.

He’ll miss the rest of the season.

on the seventh day, god made the earth

on the eighth day, luol deng was injured

(poking fun at the start of the article…lol)
