Could we land Bosh and Wade?

Who is this guy?
I am not a regular poster at Blog a Bull, but I do stop by and read from time-to-time.  I am a huge fan of the team, and watch as many games as I can find here in Indy.  Thanks to all who post online links.

Disclaimer
I'm hoping that those who know the salary cap rules, our salaries and cap space, and any other important details can tell me if this is a possibility.  I apologize in advance if this has been covered before.  Like I said I read sometimes, but I don't read all the trade ideas.

Could we land Bosh and Wade?
So here is my idea that could totally not work.  Could we do a sign and trade for Bosh or Wade or some other free agent and in the trade send them Deng and Hinrich?  Would that allow us to grab 2 max free agents like Bosh and Wade or Bosh and Lebron or Bosh and Johnson (notice all the Bosh mentions)?  I would love to see a break down of how much that would put us under the cap and if that type of sign and trade would work.  Also do you think Jerry would allow the Bulls to go over the cap a little bit to get a second guy, maybe a lower priced guy like Boozer?

Thanks and keep up the good work.  This losing streak stinks, but next year is looking really exciting for Chicago!

If one of those teams were willing to take on some mediocre-bad contracts...

for a max guy, then yes, we could get them in a sign in trade.

I saw T2 at Walgreens in Deerfield he’s tall. if you’re wondering what his grocery list included: magnums, french vanilla ice cream and a 20 oz sprite

I think perhaps we could

say if we still had Tyrus’s restricted option:

Luol-Tyrus-Taj 2 first round picks for Wade and perhaps they include one of their expirings in a signed deal….

Sign Bosh outright 5 year max deal….or Boozer perhaps too….

Now I wonder.

Maybe if we can lure Wade OR Bosh, we can try to dangle Deng in a AK47 deal….using our Pick….

I really have to wonder with the Jazz due the Knicks #1 pick unprotected, which could be as high as #1 overall….if they don’t just have a 1 yr luxury tax year to get under the AK47 contract….

I mean presume they get a #1 overall can any team stop a
Dwill-Wall (or Turner,etc)-AK47/Miles/Korver-Boozer/Millsap-Okur team?

That’s scary….they have 1 year of the luxyr

7/1/2010: D. Wade comes back home

No teams are going to want Noah back.

I need the Bulls to have some degree of defense left.

Anything is possible, but finding a team willing to take on Hinrich and Deng is pretty unlikely

But depending on the cap, it is possible that we pick up a second near-max FA in a S + T giving up only Deng. However, in order for this to be worth it, the second free agent would have to be better than Deng. This is pretty unlikely. I suppose if we got LeBron or Wade, a S + T of Deng for Boozer or Stoudemire would be pretty sweet, but let’s focus on player our first free agent before we think about the possibility of adding a second.

And this is impossible: “Also do you think Jerry would allow the Bulls to go over the cap a little bit to get a second guy, maybe a lower priced guy like Boozer?” You can’t just decide to go over the cap. That’s not how it works

Good point Poloplaya,

I just think that if we made the playoffs it would set us apart from those team helping our chances to get a top FA. There is rumblings out that J. Johnson will sign with the Knicks and that the Raptors would do a Bosh for Lee sign and trade. That takes 3 good Free Agents off the board if there is any validity to this. We need more than 1 top FA due to our anemic depth right now. With Miller maybe gone or just skills declining next year who will we have besides Noah at Center?

We don't need to win the championship

next year. If we sign a big 3 FA then BING BONG. Rose and Noah (and deng…) are young and legit. We can take a year or 2 to add solid bench pieces and depth, and I’m pretty sure in that case Jerry would actually go into his pocket and pay the tax. The goal next year is to make our team as “good-er” as possible. If wade bosh and bron have no interest in coming here, nothing we can do bout that, just gotta make the most of our cap room and available FA’s.

by Pax_4_Prez on Mar 12, 2010 3:12 PM CST up reply actions

Just stating what we need.

If we get a top FA we will be expected to be contenders because with stars come expectations. I was just pointing out that we will not meet those expectations with the addition of just one player.

We need cap room to sign him.

Or the MLE. so he likely won’t make it over next year.

But the general consensus within the media was the Bulls were already at a vast disadvantage

With Miami’s weather and naked ladies, New Jeresey’s John Wall (media: “who’s derrick rose”), and New York’s New Yorkness, apparently all we had going for us was the playoffs.

Why aren't they selling Rose's all star jersey?

These guys have tv...

They’ve seen sportscenter…
They know that the only reason we aren’t going to the playoffs is because of Noah’s injury.

2010... where relevant basketball in Chicago happens!

by kidronmusic on Mar 12, 2010 5:45 PM CST up reply actions

No, I haighly doubt it.

The way our team is playing right now we are out of the playoffs and our lack of team depth is apparent to everyone. If we lose one key player e.g. (Noah, Deng, Rose) then everything falls apart after a short period of time. I think we may have a shot at Wade but not making the playoffs is not helping to convince a star to come over. We really need to make the playoffs to attract a top FA in my opinion. I wish Noah could play, I don’t think we have a shot without him playing 30 minutes a game.

We are an Eastern Conference

bottom feeder when entirely healthy. It’s not that complicated…we lost our 3 best players, and on top of that have an outrageously competetive stretch of schedule. This is a huge decision for FA’s, and they wont just quickly look back and see that we didn’t make the playoffs and rule us out.

That being said, if we somehow miraculously squeeze into the playoffs despite what were going through now, we would get amplified attention and praise. One can only dream…

I think people need to stop being so negative. Bottom line we have a real legit base core in just Rose and Noah. Those in itself are pieces to build around. FA’s are signing contracts for 5-6 years and potentially the rest of their careers, and I know I would strongly take into consideration the idea of playing alongside a 20 year old all-star.

by Pax_4_Prez on Mar 12, 2010 3:22 PM CST up reply actions

I think it will

enter into their decision is my point. Not that we will be off their lists but if we made the playoffs our chances increase I think.

by Savage23 on Mar 12, 2010 4:04 PM CST up reply actions

Making the playoffs or not seems less relevant every day. It all depends on how much attention a given player (a Max FA) pays to the goings-on of the team. The conventional wisdom is that if we do make it, then we’re more attractive as a team “on the rise”. With Noah, Rose, Deng and Taj either out of the games or playing below capacity due to injury, if we do somehow slip into the 8th spot or better in spite of all the injuries, it’ll be due to the efforts of guys who most likely aren’t going to be around next year anyway. Include Hinrich and VDN in this if it makes you feel better, it shouldn’t affect the argument. Unless the guys we’re going after have a caveman-like mentality (playoffs-good, no-playoffs-bad) then all we have to rely on is if they like how they look in red.

Now maybe you

are the one making a neanderthal argument. You don’t think a player cares about the potential of the team he will join? That makes a lot of sense…Oh wait no it doesn’t. Injuries happen to every team so to say the FA would make excuses for the Bulls and over emphasize a teams potential is a bit one sided.

How can you be a team on the rise when you have only made the playoffs 1 out of the last 3 years? Making the playoffs is a bonafide way to prove your team is on the rise and with a major addition could be a genuine contender. How you would consider this a “cavemen-like” argument may have more to do with yourself than the argument itself.

It proves

We have no depth. We are not missing 3 of our top player. Deng has missed a game here and there and Rose the same. The only player we missed extended time was Noah. So if your team lacks the depth to make up for one injury it is a problem.

Even if you were right, what you've said is still irrelevant.

Whoever we sign isn’t signing up to play with the 2009-10 Bulls, they’re signing up to play with (in all probability) Rose, Deng, Noah, Taj, JJ and Hinrich, with emphasis on the first three. The fact that Warrick, Saunders, Law, Brown, Miller, Alexander and the corpse of Jerome James can’t shoulder the load for us during the final playoff push says nothing about our depth in 2010-11, it’s yet to be determined.

by headphones on Mar 13, 2010 8:51 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly..

Our depth this year has no relevance to next year. If we sign a superstar to go with Rose, they will have no problem filling out the bench w/ solid roleplayers. It’s stunning to me how people seem to think these guys are complete morons. As if they wouldn’t know that Noah is hurt or that if they came here and played with D. Rose, plenty of veteran’s would want to play with them. As if Reinsdorf would sign a max player to just have him play on a god awful team. If we sign a big name, we will fill out the bench.

If anything, it’s a plus we don’t have a full bench, b/c it means we can build the team around who ever we sign. Instead of having a bunch of guys that don’t fit with Bosh or LeBron or Boozer, we have a bunch of empty spots we can fill with whoever fits best w/ their game.

by Grinder in Training on Mar 15, 2010 10:08 AM CDT up reply actions

Tank the season...

rest Noah the rest of the season. Rest Rose until he’s 100%, same with Deng. Let JJ get some burn and see what kind of cheap bench fodder we have in Law, Murry, and Warrick.

Pray they can play into the top 10 so the Bucks can’t swap picks. There by adding another young bench player with a chance at a top 3. Go sign a top free agent with the max cap dollars.

A first round exit isn’t going to make or break the Bulls chance to land a top free agent. So long as we have money, Rose, Noah, Deng, and a new coach we look appealing.

by ronmexibull on Mar 12, 2010 3:27 PM CST reply actions

I think the Bulls could sign Bosh

and then trade the Heat Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Cash, and 2010 and 2011 first round pick for Wade. The Heat may want to rebuild instead of being a fifth seed in the east and not actual contenders. So they could build around Beasely, Noah, Deng, and Chalmers. That could be their core and add draft picks.

Not w/ Hinrich onerous contract on the books

Don’t think his contract was worth losing BG, Thomas and Salmon. I t won’t be worth losing opportunity on good FA in the futrue either.

First, welcome aboard to a fellow Hoosier

I live in Indy myself.

Anyway, as has been said, yep, it’s feasible to do this. The issue will be figuring out how to convince Bosh and/or Wade to force their way out of their respective towns and up to us.
