Dreaming, I know
The Bucks have the right to swap 1st round picks with the Bulls in the upcoming draft courtesy of the trade that sent Salmons to Milwaukee. But that pick is top 10 protected. Now, I’m not saying the Bulls can catch the Clippers (Currently 6 1/2 games worse in that 10 spot). But it sure would make the lottery that much more exciting.
Playoffs would be grand and all but with all these injuries piling up, I’m starting to accept the likelihood ping pong balls.
And guess where the Bulls are currently slotted... 11! ,
That would be so Bullslike, to end up having to give the 11th pick up in a trade that basically eliminated your own team from the playoffs. Just to be consistent I’m gonna stick with my first reaction which was just happiness that we could actually move Salmons, but there had to be a better trade out there, didn’t there?

Yep, massive facepalm
29 other NBA teams, just 4 of which we’re in a playoff race with. Making both trades with those four teams AND flipping your 1st to one of them. Oyyyy
yeah, it was still the right thing to do, but this is really turning out bad
Doug said it well today:
If the season were to end today, the Bulls would swap the 11th pick of the draft with the 17th pick in the draft while missing the playoffs. John Salmons would likely opt out of his contract, and the Bucks fans will laugh their asses off at us all summer long for giving them a trade up in the 1st round, two 2nd rounders, and the player who drove them into the playoffs ahead of us just so we could end up in the same cap position we would have ended up anyway.
The only possible way to prevent this scenario is to beat out Charlotte for the playoffs [boy does that look unlikely right now] or to completely fall in the crapper and not win a game the rest of the season [even then we may not be bad enough to beat out the Clippers for 10th in the lotto standings].
More or less, we have entered into the zone of maximum pain. I can’t rip on the trades at the deadline. They needed to be done to ensure 2010 flexibility, but I outlined a worst case scenario that could happen, and the Bulls are about to live it.

I disagree w/ your subject line.
Well, maybe not at the time. But in the long run, no way.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
I mean it was the right thing in order to continue the wrong thing :)
I’d have been incensed if they had Salmons PO looming over their heads right now.

If the Bulls somehow did end up in the lottery
and landed the #2 pick for Evan Turner…
… I’d shit my pants. (The same way Souleater drove into the lake…)
John Wall plus Chris Bosh is the best possible scenario that can happen.

Although... #2 pick <<<< not enough cap space for a max guy.
Go Kirk Hinrich!!!

oy
Really, why did they keep him. why why why. I just want Gar Forman to tell me they couldn’t get rid of him, even if he’s lying. The idea that they held out for assets makes me ill.

I don't think people understand the importance of this comment...
If the Bulls land in the top 3, they will not be able to sign a max player unless we trade the pick…
Do the Bulls trade that pick? Let’s see, the opportunity to get a talented player for a four year rookie deal, where he will likely outperform his contract, or a trade for a chance to spend a full boat on someone who may or may be overpaid by year three (Joe Johnson).
More likely, the Bulls will take the best available player then spend the rest of their cap space on someone like David Lee or Rudy Gay…and if they were to land Wall, that may be the best way to player…With Favors or Turner, I am not so sure…
The precedent for trading the #1 overall pick has been set by the Magic…the #3 overall pick and three future #1’s…An option like that could get the Bulls far enough below the cap to sign a full boat free agent if they traded with someone closer to the 10th pick…Like the Jazz or 76ers…
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.
Excellent point
And seeing as how John Wall isn’t exactly a good fit for us anyways, I’d definitely trade down and target a guy like Xavier Henry.
Brad Miller is god.

Well moving Hinrich's 2010 salary is now gonna be next to impossible
We’d have to either get a team with cap room to take him, which won’t happen, or find a team with a $9 million trade exception to take him. I suppose we could try to find a team with like a $4 million trade exception and move him for a player making $5 million, but that’s about the best we could hope for.
Brad Miller is god.
that or a guy with a partially-guaranteed deal
though there aren’t many around.
friggin’ Hinrich.

oops, Evan Turner plus Chris Bosh.
John Wall has better potential, but it would be interesting with he and Rose.

Rose > Wall
If the Bulls end up with the top pick and dont trade it i’ll be furious. John Wall would be a very appealing excuse for Toronto to sign and trade Bosh.
Why aren't they selling Rose's all star jersey?
Draft John Wall, sign D-Wade
I can’t wait to see all the broken ankles that lineup would bring. It’d be downright disgusting.
Brad Miller is god.
I'll tell you what's disgusting
The fact that you seem to have totally forgotten where Derrick Rose factors into this line up.
I'm obviously joking but...
I was envisioning Rose in there too. Rose at point, Wall at the 2, Wade at the 3.
Brad Miller is god.
Now THAT's a 3 guard lineup I can watch
Joakim on whether he ever tried tennis: "I played a little bit. If anybody on the Bulls wanted to play me, I would kick their ass."
if we landed john wall
do you think it’d be enough to lure over some max guys? I’m sure Bosh or STAT would love getting lobs from a backcourt of rose and wall.

Wall < Rose
If we get Wall, he should be part of a sign and trade for Bosh
Why aren't they selling Rose's all star jersey?
we dont know that yet
but from what im seeing wall will be better.
is rose better right now? probably. but wall has HUGE upside
It's not really a probably, Rose is leaps and bounds better than Wall right now
(which makes sense, because Wall is still in college). And saying Wall will be better doesn’t make much sense, because Rose’s ceiling could be anywhere from a top 5 NBA player to staying the way he is now.
There is no indication yet that Wall does anything substantially better than Rose.

Why?
We could just sign Bosh outright (or S+T without giving up jack, since they have no leverage) and keep Wall. Then we could move Wall to someone else. I’m thinking Wall + Hinrich to Houston for Kevin Martin + Brooks. Wall + Deng to Indiana for Granger + HIbbert? Or Wall + Deng for Melo? Sounds like a pipe dream, but I think it’d be fairly logical for each team.
Brad Miller is god.
A big man with an attitude, they do so well here!

Turner+someone else
Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!
How many times did you have to
click that draft lottery thing to get the Bulls to show up at #3? I did it about 20 times and they kept being 11 or 12!
Joakim on whether he ever tried tennis: "I played a little bit. If anybody on the Bulls wanted to play me, I would kick their ass."
It should be noted, that I played the mock lottery thing only once in 2008.
I got the first pick, and immediately never tried it again. Weeks later Steve Schanwald pumped his fist. Coincidence? Obviously not.

Here you go, on my 2nd try...
(In case posting the image didn’t work, the Bulls, with a 0.8% chance, get the first pick and take John Wall)

Two years ago I went to the same ESPN lottery mock draft machine and did it once...
…the Bulls got Derrick Rose with the #1 pick. I stopped while I was ahead and took a screen shot, sending it to a few Bulls fans I knew. They all went bananas months later on draft night when it came to fruition.
Tonight, I drafted once and the Bulls got #11. Yeah…
