Addressing the John Salmons for J.J. Redick Rumor
Eddy Rivera, my co-writer at Orlando Pinstriped Post, examines the rumor that the Chicago Bulls offered John Salmons to the Orlando Magic for J.J. Redick and explains why the move wouldn't make sense for Orlando.

I think it makes a little more sense then they think it does...
Which might be condescending. because they probably know they’re team better than I do. But I get the feeling that their love for Redick is similar to the Tyrus Thomas love here the last few years. When a promising player shows flashes of potential it’s so easy to fall in love. And when they have a hot streak, it’s easy to think they turned a corner. But I think Redick (who I do like) Is a very incomplete player, and will be for his career.
And Salmons is the kind of player that gets overlooked and under rated. He has been so under the radar for his whole career that nobody gets excited to hear they are trading a promising player for him. He had a terrible start to this year, but has been playing better of late. And he is a good defender who plays the 2 and the 3 and has an inside outside game that would fit with just about any team.
Again, I’m not saying Salmons is great, or even very good. But I think he is a more complete player than JJ Redick, who is basically a really exciting one trick pony.

Redick's more than just a shooter
He’s assisted on fewer than half of his long two-pointers and three-pointers, meaning he can create his shot off the dribble (and make it, too). As a two-guard, he has a better Pure Point Rating than Rodney Stuckey, Aaron Brooks, T.J. Ford, and Derek Fisher. People who think of him as a mere spot-up shooter / 3-point specialist are selling him short, but it’s understandable, given that these developments in J.J.’s game are new.
Well...
That’s fair, He certainly had those traits at Duke. Does he have any midrange or short game? Or does he stay away from the basket? I’m wondering if JJ Redick’s ceiling is a Ben Gordon type.
The attraction in Chicago is that he would space the floor for D Rose. I suppose the attraction in Orlando is that he spaces the floor for D Howard.
I haven’t seen him play much this year, just a lot of YouTube vids…

Almost everything's a long jumper (276 of 336 FGAs are long 2s or 3 FGs) but he can finish at the rim (65.1% this year, 60% last year) and draws fouls at a higher rate than everyone on the team except for Dwight Howard
Also, never turns the ball over.
I’m not saying he’s perfect, but he’s darn good. Worlds better than he was last year, which was a bit of an outlier because he missed a ton of long twos that he made at a higher rate in his first 2 years.
I'm pretty sure the negotiations would be horrendous
If Forman can’t pull the trigger on Hinrich + Boston parts, I can’t imagine the type of bullshit he’s pulling for Salmons + Redick
Forman: “Let’s do Salmons for J.J.”
Smith: “How about Pietrus + Jason Williams?”
Forman: “No it’s best that we do Howard + Hinrich and Salmons straight up”
Smith: “WTF?”
