Should the Bulls make an offer to Big Z
I only have a minute, but I wanted to run down the options:
* I think the Bulls have a couple million under the luxury tax now. And part of the MLE. So they could probably offer a bit more than anyone else.
* I know he mostly wants to go back to Cleveland, but money talks, and Noah is likely hampered for the rest of the year. And Big Z plus Brad would be above average, if old.
* At worst, it makes the Cavs spend more money. Jerry Reinsdorf might like that. It's what he roots for.
* At best, if they don't get him back, it hurts their chances of winning a title and keeping Lebron.
* Or would he see that as a dick move by the Bulls and make us a less likely destination? I don't think he thinks in those terms, so if the Cavs don't get it done, and we look like a good fit, it helps.

The Bulls should make that call...
He would be a good fit with the Bulls…a solid pick and roll player…
There are many teams that will pursue him, I am not convinced he goes back to Cleveland, but he could land someplace like Dallas…or even worse, Boston!
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.
There probably isn't a team in the league that shouldn't go after Ilgauskas

I don't think it'd be considered a dick move at all around the league
Z could get more playing time here than in other places, he’d still be on a playoff squad. Plus it’s like, his choice and everything, if he doesn’t want to ring chase.
But as you know the tax is all that matters, not whatever exceptions they have left. I am pretty sure that there are teams over the cap that have their bi-annual exception (like Dallas) or MLE remaining which is more money than what the Bulls have left under the tax.

I've got the Bulls at almost $2.3M under the tax. We traded away $11.1M and brought back only $9.8
That’s a pretty nice chunk of change and a little over the BAE. Maybe I’m off by a hundred thousand or so, but I don’t think I’m off by much.
So if we were to offer Z a 1yr, $2.2M deal, it’s better than the BAE Cleveland can offer. Cleveland doesn’t have any MLE left, so they’re actually sort of out of luck.
Even if they have to offer the BAE, it means they’re spending close to $4M (including the tax) to bring back a guy they were planning to bring back for the pro-rated veteran minimum.

well, there you go.
really what this says is that there’s no reason for the Bulls not to sign another big. Heck, they should’ve used their trade exception at the deadline for someone.

He'd be great in the Pick & Pop with Rose.
Beasley spent the first two quarters like he was wandering through a forest.-Neil Funk
reportedly
Z gave up $1.5m in the buyout. That likely means he REALLY wants to go to a title contender.

We have Derrick Rose
that is enough to convince him. I mean we expect him to convince LBJ to sign here this summer, why can’t he convince Big Z?

he's definitely going to cleveland.....woj can say it better than me:
He’s Mr. Cavalier, maybe the most beloved player in franchise history – outside of No. 23. One year, he delayed contract negotiations so the organization could sign some teammates. He missed entire seasons with foot injuries, collecting millions without playing a minute. This season, Ilgauskas was finishing the final year of a $55 million contract that included the gifting of this final season at $11.5 million, especially generous considering the injuries that plagued him early in his career.
He married a Cleveland girl, adopted two young Eastern European children and will likely live the rest of his life in Ohio. After 13 years, do you think he’s going to walk away from the best team in Cavs history, from a chance to finally win a title, to chase a championship as a mercenary with perfect strangers in Atlanta and Dallas?

haha fine
you can consider him second runner up for the mr.cavalier award behind lebron and price….. the point is he’s not gonna go elsewhere

ahhh....
I was reading this quick and thought the suggestion was that we should sign Mark Price… but yeah… Mr. Cavalier.
Although, I think Lebron is Mr. Cav, even if he walks he has done more for that franchise than anyone. Then Price, then, then Daugherty, then Nance, … or Maybe Danny Ferry should be top 3, because he has done it in the front office too.
2010... where relevant basketball in Chicago happens!
No, I don't. But I want to make it as expensive for them as possible.

I agree...
But here’s the thing I don’t understand…
Is it a matter of outbidding for him? I mean we can offer more money, but he could still sign with Cleveland for less right? In that case we aren’t really driving up the price at all.
Obviously if he accepts for less money with Cleveland then everyone can say it was a planned thing for him to return all along though… That would be major egg on their franchise face IMO.
How can we have the worst offense in the league when everything about our team owner and coach is offensive?

STAYING IN CLELELAND
He will go back to the cavs, but i would make him an offer and try to get him because his still better than brad miller, then again, anyone is.
He’s going back to the Cavs…also the Hawks are pushing hard. Why would he come to a .500 team. Honestly, why? Because of Rose, get real folks…
A) we are OVER .500
B) Cleveland can’t beat Orlando anyway, so I don’t see how team will records matter.

Also, what other guys are going to be bought out or available?
Mikki Moore, Mark Blount, Tony Battie, Jarvis Hayes?
Those latter two Nets wouldn’t be absolutely terrible… they at least sort of fill a need here.

Whatever happened to Ricky Davis
I mean he was good in Boston and is what 30/31 now and has been bad the last 2 years. I don’t remember an injury. I know he was a head case, but did he just Jerome James/Eddy Curry his McDonalds, or what?
I thought I read he was available….
Ok Stacey I'm am so sick of hearing the "Hard Hat and Lunch Pail" nickname for Taj. Enough already, wasn't funny the first time, but you now say it 15-20 times per broadcast. It's enough to make me want to hate Taj, when I don't hate Taj.
I haven'te seen Davis
more than a 2-3 minute stance last time we played the Clipps, and because it was the Clipps I didn’t much pay attention, fully knowing Kaman would kill us….

I guess if the goal is to shut Noah down, then any of those guys are decent options.
Also, it doesn’t hurt anyone if the Bulls make an offer to Z. Worst case Cleveland pays more and adds to their luxury tax bill.
Taj Gibson is the face of Bulls basketball!

Josh Boone or Sean Williams...
Could be cut….okay, anyone on the Nets not named Harris, Lopez or Lee could be cut.
Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.
Sean Williams is already in China
I believe he was cut when the Nets made that Najera-Humphries trade a few weeks ago.

What happened with Josh Boone?
He seemed moderately capable his first couple years, except for his absurdly poor free throw shooting.
Still, I think if you took him and played him mostly at center instead of as a PF, he’d a decent backup.
no Jannero pargo doesn't belong ... in the Euroleague
Or the NBA, but that’s a different story. Maybe he can get a job at some YMCA after this year.
Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!
If the Bulls sign Big Z
They should make him and Brad Miller have a foot race.
We should
but it’s a waste of time and money. He’s going back to Cleveland.
Besides, he’ll never sign with the Bulls this season. No one hates winning that much. Maybe as a 2nd tier FA during the off season.
