I'm sure they told him they'll get around to building a team eventually

just 2 years of Rose to waste with the expiring gang and novice coach. He’ll be here a while! Or like 2 more years before he needs to get paid.

Rose takes the qualifying offer,

then goes to the Lakers to replace Kobe Bryant. : (

I'm glad it

was Derrick who said that. If it had been anyone else they would be crucified in here.

Luol would have screwed it up anyway .. his comments are rarely void of self promotion!

"I tried being reasonable, I didn't like it."
"Go ahead, make my day"
"We boil at different degrees"
"A good man always knows his limitations"
"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"

by exult463 on Feb 21, 2010 9:36 AM CST up reply actions

kirk would've taken it hard too

what would fans think if Noah made that comment? He is the locker room leader now.

by Jscho316 on Feb 20, 2010 3:14 PM CST up reply actions

its definitely an interesting statement

that being said, I’m curious as to the context of it.
Derrick has never been one to make any real bold statements and so I wonder if he was baited into this one.

then again, maybe he was just speaking his mind. who knows

by darksmokepuncher on Feb 20, 2010 10:38 AM CST reply actions

Maybe he said it.

Because it was true, and he meant it? Does this mean he is growing up or no?

by bears rock on Feb 20, 2010 1:09 PM CST up reply actions

It does make me wonder about the context

Was it referring to the guys who left, or was it strictly about the new guys, i.e. Rose was just saying their old teams didn’t get rid of them for attitude problems.

by JeffD on Feb 20, 2010 1:25 PM CST up reply actions

The quote only makes sense as a comparison

That said, it’s not that bad. It doesn’t mean he was ever bothered by Tyrus personally, but simply that he recognized that the org. saw tyrus as having attitude problems, which is a fact.

Oh yeah, I just remembered that Sam or someone said that Salmons was even more unhappy about being on the bench as Tyrus was.

Vinny: "[Thrust] means pace, it means getting the ball out, it means getting your back to the sidelines, it means extending your outlets, it means getting the ball up the court into our early offense with plenty of time."

by runningman on Feb 20, 2010 2:24 PM CST up reply actions

Ouch, gut punch

Always hurts when one of ‘the good guys’ disses the dearly departed.

But… sometimes those headcases, with all their talent, don’t seem so bad when the team later sucks due to lack of talent.
Hope 2010 FA ends up being worth it.

All your base are belong to Vinny.

by BCs71 on Feb 20, 2010 1:49 PM CST reply actions

Excellent

This quote alone should (though probably won’t) shut the Tyrus lovers up.

by badnewsintennisshoes on Feb 20, 2010 2:05 PM CST reply actions

is there a stat for attitude?

its not tangible, so you are right, it won’t shut them up.

it doesnt really mean too much. what we already know about tyrus and john could lead derrick to brand

them with “attitude problems”. and thats fine that derrick would be ok with not having to think about that stuff anymore. but good organizations typically dont ship out difficult, productive people for more tractable, less productive ones (unless its about expirings like with john). especially in professional sports, where its so important to learn how to work with these guys. atlanta and denver didnt, and they are better off for it. the knicks did with nate robinson, and, well, theyre the knicks.

"Oooohhh, cat in the wall, eh? Now you're talkin' my language."

by TheMoon on Feb 20, 2010 4:58 PM CST up reply actions

Hmm...

TT had three and a half years to learn to work with the team. Furthermore, there are plenty of tough cases (e.g. Iverson, Milton Bradley, etc.) where organizations gave up in their efforts to work with difficult athletes.

I’m no defender of the Bulls organization of recent years, but there reaches a point where you just have to move on, and they were smart to do it in TT’s case.

by badnewsintennisshoes on Feb 20, 2010 5:53 PM CST up reply actions

So let me get this straight

This one quote just proves all your anti-Tyrus spouting about attitude, etc.? We don’t even know in what context he was speaking. Not only that, Tyrus wasn’t the only one traded so he could’ve meant Salmons. He could’ve meant both. He could’ve just been saying the new guys don’t have any attitude problems as a credit to them and not even in reference to the players that left. You have no way of knowing either way.

Joakim on whether he ever tried tennis: "I played a little bit. If anybody on the Bulls wanted to play me, I would kick their ass."

by bigballa10 on Feb 20, 2010 6:52 PM CST up reply actions

Jeff Kent and Barry Bonds hated each other. Threw punches at each other in the dugout.

“Attitude” chemistry is overrated. Basketball-playing chemistry is much more important. If Rose could throw an alley-oop, these two might have had more chemistry.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

by tyger1147 on Feb 20, 2010 3:26 PM CST reply actions

ah, yes...

TT’s “basketball-playing chemistry” was excellent. I had forgotten that.

(eyes rolling)

by badnewsintennisshoes on Feb 20, 2010 3:45 PM CST up reply actions

its not a bad point. for instance, one might suspect tyrus resented taj a little, for obvious reasons, but that

never seemed to affect their on-court chemistry. i always found tyrus to be a very willing passer to taj actually.

by TheMoon on Feb 20, 2010 4:50 PM CST up reply actions

Look...

the evidence is overwhelming that TT had a poor attitude, and a low B-ball IQ while playing for the Bulls. The notion that he would have changed significantly had he remained here has no reasonable basis, and the Bulls were smart to get rid of him (and get something in return).

Now, will he blossom under a far superior coach to VDN? Perhaps, but one game means nothing. The biggest mistake the Bulls have made in recent years was the hiring of VDN, as he has likely stunted the growth of Rose along with TT. If they had hired a better coach, things might well have been different.

How has Rose's growth been stunted?

This kid has been phenomenal lately. His jump shot is much improved and he’s now the clear leader of the team who’s willing to put the team on his shoulders in the 4th quarter.

by patagonia on Feb 20, 2010 5:25 PM CST up reply actions

please point out the overwhelming evidence!

it must be pretty weak/questionable or non existent since a majority of us don’t buy what you’re selling (tt had a poor attitude, low b-ball IQ, bulls smart to get rid of him).

by anorexorcist on Feb 20, 2010 5:28 PM CST up reply actions

Are you that obtuse?

He had well-reported problems with both Skiles and VDN, and his bad attitude was often on display in games. You’d have to be blind not to have noticed.

As for his b-ball IQ, I’m not going to waste time reviewing the obvious.

by badnewsintennisshoes on Feb 20, 2010 5:56 PM CST up reply actions

I call bullshit.

His attitude doesn’t excuse the org for trading him, and not even attempting to develop him. Tyrus Thomas is not the first basketball player with an ‘attitude problem’.

by Stacey_Is_King on Feb 20, 2010 6:31 PM CST up reply actions

Even Kirk had issues with Skiles though.

by C Smoove on Feb 20, 2010 6:48 PM CST up reply actions

Why to we continue to have mental blockage in regards to TT. Also the media loved him because of his tactfulness and outstanding personality?

I’m not defending the Bulls back office, because they are crap, but TT’s attitude problems aren’t dreams of a National Enquirer writer.

Well, he can't. But, that hardly was the reason why Tyrus still isn't a good offensive player.

And anyone taking this as a dig at Tyrus is probably just looking for arguments, just like with the Deng quotes in the past. I felt like he was just giving the new guys props, like any normal person would.

Isn’t there more to him not throwing those too Even Rondo-Paul haven’t been throwing them as often. Though Paul is without Tyson now and KG is getting up there in age. He’ll probably be able to as the entire team develops.
Not sure if Tyrus was able to develop well here for a number of reasons.

Heh

Rose is starting to use less ‘uhs’ and ‘uhms’. Check out his all-star interview with BDL, it was actually fluid!

by Stacey_Is_King on Feb 20, 2010 6:31 PM CST up reply actions

cuz bdl seem like nobodys?

i mean espn does an interview, and they make sure ure nose is powdered, hook u up with a mic, have tons of guys walking around doing something around you, you get a quick recap of what questions are gonna be asked and how, and whamo suddenly they are rolling with bright lights hitting your face….while i think that bdl interview was done with a regular camera, probably just the interviewer and the camera man, and during allstar break after drose probably went through a bunch of those over the top interviews, maybe that bdl was just alot less stressing…

i mean even he looked like they just asked him out of nowhere and he was like, oh hell why not…

Derrick Rose and The Organization are one.

But it’s fine because he is the franchise. And he does know if guys can play or not. I think he’s fine with the results of the trades as it relates to competing this year and he must have some understanding of the cap ramifications.

Derrick spent time with Team USA and more recently the NBA All-Stars. Note how he marveled at their professionalism and focus, especially when the game was on the line. This dude does not have time for knuckleheads still trying to find themselves.

Good points

Plus Salmons and TT were both playing out of position which might contribute to their frustrations.

Salmons wasn’t a good SG, but better fit at SF and Tyrus Thomas I’m not sure what position best fits his skills?
