Man, the Bulls are really active in talks at the deadline...this link has Tyrus Thomas stuff, Kirk Hinrich stuff and chatter about plenty of potential deals...(personally, I like the idea of grabbing Scola somehow, since he will be a RFA this summer)

Scola would be awesome.

They could do with him what they should be doing with Thomas (in my opinion, of course). Keep the RFA rights until they need to sign a better PF or a deadline or whatever. It would virtually guarantee them a big upgrade at PF for at least the next couple of years. Although some might find that debatable.

The Bulls are going to be big losers over the next year.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

yeah, not sure how Scola came up

on the other hand, if the Wolves really are serious about moving Al Jeff for a SF, why not get Deng involved in this? sure Big Al has his flaws, but he would be valuable in any sign and trade if we were fortunate enough to interest Bosh/Wade. and worst case scenario, you keep him and have him and Noah in your frontcourt. Al is making more than Deng, but move Kirk/Salmons, and the cap space will still be there.

Scola was not mentioned.

I took the Scola talk from yesterday’s rumor.

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

Woj seems certain that Al Jefferson is leaving the Wolves
Once the Timberwolves trade Al Jefferson(notes) this summer, they can re-sign Thomas and plug him into the frontline with Kevin Love(notes). Jefferson is expected to be traded for a talented, young small forward.

Classic Org Move
one Eastern Conference general manager who had been told the elements of the package included Thomas and Vujacic to Portland, the Bulls’ Kirk Hinrich(notes) to Los Angeles and the Lakers’ Adam Morrison(notes), another expiring deal and a first-round pick to the Bulls.

It sounds like bullshit to me, but would it not be a classic move to deal two high lottery picks for Adam Morrison, another expiring deal, and a low first round pick?

Cue gullable fan rationalizing…. but think of all the space we have now!! We might be able to bring in Wade and Bosh!!!! That would be unbelieva-BULL!!!

So you enjoy being average?

Because that’s what keeping those two high lottery picks around does for you.

No one thinks it is a given the free agents would come, but they would rather the team have a chance to get them instead of just accepting being mediocre. Nothing gullible about not wanting to be middle of the road. Far better to fail, trying to be great, then settling for .500.

Reinsdorf's Cup of Tea

That’s a good fan….have faith in the Bulls to swing for the fences and hit a grand slam. Just what Reinsdorf loves. Selling hope.

I’ve got an idea…..how about living in reality instead of the what-ifs that never come true for the Bulls? How about resigning Ben Gordon and paying the LT for one year because you are being punished for the Ben Wallace contract? How about bringing in Carlos Boozer when he is readily available, and again paying the LT? How about making a real move for Amare Stoudemire? Or how about going all out to develop Tyrus Thomas because you recognize that Vinny isn’t doing it?

But no, instead we’ll sell hope for that 2010 summer. That’s right, we’ll sure be in the arena. The Bulls will be major players on the free agent market. We could get LeBron! Maybe Wade! Maybe Bosh! Maybe Joe Johnson! Dare to be great! Just like we were with T-Mac, and Duncan, and Grant Hill………

Not even about having faith.

It’s about demanding more then being in the middle.

I’m living in the reality that right now we are average, being average is not acceptable. If we don’t trade enough guys to get cap space, we’ll still be average. If we fail, so be it, at least they tried. I’ll take that from my front office any day over what we have right now.

Perfect is the Enemy of the Good with this Team

I share your frustration, especially about this being a lost year. But the Bulls could make moves to improve the team but that would cost a lot of money and they are unwilling to do that. They are selling it as they are going for “flexibility” to make the big moves that might be available.

In the 1% chance that Wade or Bosh do want to come here, then yes, it would be a good move. But why not make a different move that is on the table now? Obviously Boozer would not be as good of a get as Wade, but why not take the 100% certainty of Boozer instead of the low probability of Wade? Same with Amare.

Spend money to try to make the team better. We have supported the team, led the league in profits, etc. Instead this front office tries to sell hope that brighter days are right around the corner.

How do you know we have what the Suns want?

Or that we haven’t tried? I have no way to know that we haven’t offered a decent offer for Amare. Unless you are in the room when it happens, what you read in the media is only speculation.

Sure getting Amare now or or Boozer would be fine. I’m just saying, to not trade away our guys now would be stupid. They aren’t going to help us win anything worth winning. If that means you get Amare back all the better, but I have no reason to believe they haven’t entertained the idea. It’s a two way street.

Odd is the fact

That Portland would be the facilitator to getting Kurt in Los Angeles…. a bitter rival.

But I guess desperation for a big man in an injury-filled season (when you are trying hard to win now) will do that. But I still don’t see Portland helping LA get stronger…

Chad Ford expanded on what the trade would entail in an Insider article today
Here’s one potential solution: The word out of the All-Star Game late Sunday had the Lakers recruiting the Portland Trail Blazers as a third team in trade talks with the Bulls. According to one source familiar with the discussions, the Lakers would get Hinrich, the Bulls would get Adam Morrison, Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw and Juwan Howard, and the Blazers would land Tyrus Thomas and Sasha Vujacic. Such a deal would lessen the amount of money the Lakers would be adding to their payroll next season.

by Option27 on Feb 15, 2010 2:42 PM CST up reply actions

Off the top of my head

Portland has an extra late first rounder this year, or at the very least, a ton of extra second round picks. Lakers traded their first rounder for this year in the Gasol trade.

And yeah, this makes sense for all sides except Portland taking on Vujacic’s contract, which I understand is the only sticking point.

Oh, and related to that

Houston is still interested in Miller, so assuming they don’t get Iguodala/Dalembert or Jamison with McGrady, I’d wager they’d look at a Salmons/Miller for McGrady deal.

I just don't see it happening

by Option27 on Feb 15, 2010 3:01 PM CST up reply actions

Apparently Adelman still likes Miller in his offense

Which is the primary force behind it (besides the fact that they have no size whatsoever). It’s a pretty marginal move, yes, but I don’t think Morey is looking for a Gasol trade in this case.

Interesting that the Bulls actually save money this season

Despite taking on four new players (two extra on roster).
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yk94bg8

That’s having four expiring contracts while giving away Tyrus’. That really will strip down next year’s roster, and also will not really bring in any other attractive big “pieces” to drag other FAs to the bulls.

Also, I’m still not sold on Portland’s involvement here. Why would they help the Lakers, the team most likely to kick their asses out of the playoffs this year? Plus, Portland would ship out Outlaw/Howard and gain a guard they don’t want… when they need more bigs? I thought they were really happy with Juwan Howard stepping up?

If Deng is no longer untouchable

And Minnesota wants a good SF, doesn’t it make sense to go for Jefferson? I think someone mentioned this further up, or hinted at it.

by dmnw2013 on Feb 15, 2010 11:55 PM CST reply actions

Why the hell would Minnesota get rid of their best player for Tyrus?

1. But humoring the idea…in the Trade Machine, Kirk+Tyrus works straight up for AlJeff.

2. But, seriously, the only way that trade doesn’t get Minnesota’s GM fired is if someone else of quality is thrown in: probably NOAH (since good young centers are hard to come by).

3. Deng+Tyrus for AlJeff +$9K in cash also works.

by KentuckyBullsFan on Feb 16, 2010 5:36 AM CST reply actions

Minnesota also may want to weaken their team to improve their chances in the lottery.

John Wall.

If Minnesota got 3 starters from the Bulls for AlJeff, then with another high lottery pick would pretty much complete the team and make them much better than they are now.

Minnesota is 13-40 right now…a record which is WORST in the Western Conference, 2nd worst record in the entire league. That might be reason enough to shake things up.

3-team trade with Lakers & T-wolves

Now that it looks like Portland will no longer be a possible destination for Tyrus, how about this 3-team trade that also involves sending Kirk to the Lakers?

Bulls get:
Cardinal (from T-wolves) – expiring
Morrison (from Lakers) – expiring
Farmer (from Lakers) – expiring
Mid-1st round pick (from T-wolves) – Charlotte owes lottery-protected pick to T-wolves

Lakers get:
