Around SBN: Watch Out For Cowboys UDFA Tim Benford

Portland has joined San Antonio, Denver, Charlotte, and Sacramento in the pursuit of Tyrus Thomas, with one person familiar with the situation characterizing the Blazers as "close" to finding a workable scenario. Rival execs have contradicted that account, saying the Bulls are telling them they need to sweeten their offers. Chicago is seeking a quality draft pick in addition to cap relief. Denver and Charlotte have conditional 2010 second-round picks from previous trades, and Denver also could offer a second-round pick that can be swapped with the Clippers.

Portland is now in the mix of T.T. Fernandez and Outlaw for Tyrus works straight-up...how ironic would it be to see Tyrus in Portland?

Like Doug mentioned

I don’t think Tyrus would help them that much this year and I doubt they wanna give him an extension next year so it makes no sense from a Portland standpoint

by Option27 on Feb 12, 2010 12:27 PM CST reply actions

Why wouldn't he help them this year?

Tyrus is a really good defender. I know this confuses Bulls fans who only believe Hinrich can play on that end, but Tyrus would be their 2nd best big man without Oden and Pryzbilla, and by far their best defensive big.

And why wouldn’t they want him long term? This is a team that almost signed Paul Milsap to a huge contract to back up Aldridge, who they spent a ton of money to keep. They need a back up PF.

He was referencing Sacto when he wrote that
I don’t see why the Kings would be interested though they are mentioned in this rumor. It’s the first time I’ve heard of them involved with Tyrus. Tyrus doesn’t seem to fit in with what they’re doing since he’d need an extension right away this summer, and he’s not going to impact their ability to make the playoffs this season

Considering how depleted their roster is of defensive players right now, Portland needs all the help they can get.

It’s funny how people say Tyrus is so shitty but the half the league is more than interested. Good teams not the Nets or T Wolves

Just Type in Tyrus Thomas on youtube.

Look at all that flash.

I guess if Portland wants a 30 game rental, they could do a lot worse.

And no way in hell does Tyrus Thomas net Travis Outlaw and Rudy Fernandez. Bulls have a better chance of obtaining Juwan Howard from Pritchslappy.

I know Rudy is pretty much untouchable to that fanbase...

But looking at that roster, who else would the Bulls really want? Blake and Outlaw would work okay, but the Bulls would lose the talent end of the deal…Fernandez gives the Bulls a player who could actually stick around…

I still think the best move for TT is the one bandied about with the Spurs…because it moves Salmons out of town too, and returns expiring contracts would could actually play (and help) this season…

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

The Bulls want an expiring contract and a first round draft pick

not talent.

Rumor has it...

The Bulls are seeking expirings and a quality draft pick…from a basketball perspective, I would think affordable talent would trump the unknown of the draft pick (especially a first round pick, which creates a cap hold)…

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

if the Bulls managed to land Outlaw (expiring) and Rudy (awesome) for Tyrus, I would throw a parade in GarPax's honor.

Seriously. A Rose / Rudy backcourt would have the potential to be very similar to a Parker / Manu backcourt from a fit perspective. If the Bulls can ship out Kurt and Salmons for expirings in other deals and land Bosh or Amare in FA, that’s a pretty dirty team for the foreseeable future.

Rose
Rudy
Deng
Amare or Bosh
Noah

I really like how that team fits together. Rudy can shoot the lights out and slash, Rose is improving as a shooter, Deng has range all of a sudden this year, Amare and Bosh can both really shoot the mid-range jumper, and Noah would be running around doing Noah stuff. I also think that that team could, with some work, be a solid to good defensive team.

It’s candy. I don’t eat poop-flavored candy. I’m not going to watch poop-level basketball.

maybe Rudy from last year

but this year, Rudy isn’t shooting much better than Hinrich or Salmons.

by darksmokepuncher on Feb 12, 2010 2:30 PM CST up reply actions

lose the talent end?

I thought THomas had no basketball talent.

Besides, the Bulls are only using him 15 mpg. The 35-40 mpg combined that Blake and Outlaw would get would far outproduce Thomas’s production. Who cares what the “talent” differential is? If you haven’t noticed, the Bulls have given up on Thomas’s talent.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

I didn't realize you were in the camp...

That thought Thomas had no basketball talent.

I do agree the Bulls have given up on Thomas’ talent.

With apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browining, may I just say regarding Vinny and the other keystone cops running this so called organization.

How do I hate thee….let me count the ways.

Whoever gets Tyrus will complete the 2nd leg of the trifecta.
Gordon for nothing……Tyrus for garbage…. who’s next? Rose for expirings?

Thank God we still have Taj, and Pargo, and Hunter, and Brown, and Richard, and JJ, and Kurt…..all virtual untouchables.

How do I hate thee?
I hate thee in ways that would get me permanently banned from this website, and justifiablly so. But than what the hell do I know. Vinny is the resident genius and expert in evaluating talent. No you say? Just ask this arrogant, petty Paisano. By his own admission he judges players strictly on performance…they have to earn their minutes.

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.
