Derrick Rose left Wednesday’s game against Orlando with a bruised right hip and is not expected to return.
Rose was the victim of a brutal foul by Magic center Dwight Howard on the Bulls’ fifth possession of the game. As Rose drove to the basket, Howard came over and delivered a hard foul with the body, then brought his left arm down like a hatchet once Rose had lost his balance.
Fans cheered as Rose’s shot rolled into the basket, but the all-star guard landed flat on his back and rolled over in obvious pain. After staying on the floor for about two minutes, Rose was helped to the Bulls bench.
He came back to hit the free throw that completed the 3-point play, but the Bulls quickly took an intentional foul and Rose limped to the locker room.
The funny thing is, Howard was supposed to be one of Rose’s best friends in the NBA. The two went on a promotional tour of China for adidas last summer.
The Bulls and a big crowd at the United Center seemed to deflate with Rose’s injury. The Magic hit 12 of its first 14 shots of the games, including 4 straight 3-pointers, and led 41-17 at the end of the first quarter.
