CBS Sources: Nuggets Ready To Move 'Melo if No Extension By Trade Deadline
No mention of the Bulls, alas. The Nets' rather large package of Harris, Favors, Humphries and two first round picks remains the most attractive to the Nuggets, according to the sources cited in the article.

by far, that's a better package than the Bulls should give up
New Jersey would really suck, too. So there’s that.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
Yep and yep.
That is A LOT to give up. The Nets would be gutting their team for years, unless Melo somehow can get other players in on it. Giving up the two firsts would really hurt them, considering that, even with Melo, they’d be rebuilding.

would melo really sign an extension
to a team giving up pretty much all their other assets other than lopez, who has been struggling this season anyway? i don’t see it.
I could if he is in on something with CP3
and sees a Lopez-Melo-CP3 team running the East. I don’t think that’d happen, but I can see how Melo would do this & sign if CP3 would go there.

And CP3 is in limbo anyway, given the Hornets' ownership situation.

Also, the Hornets' ownership situation is in limbo, given the CP3 situation

Melo + Lopez isn't a bad start
The Knicks are the only other real attractive FA option. Is Melo + Felton + Amare really that much better than Melo + Farmar + Lopez? Actually the answer to that is probably yes, but Prokhorov seems like the kinda guy who could sell the Nets to Melo.
Pat Riley is the devil.
actually both teams would still suck
i love that trade
No hot sauce?

i dont see nets willing to go for it without an extension from melo
i would think dallas orlando and new orleans are the only teams willing to gamble with out word of an extension from melo
i actually kind of like our team right now believe it or not but once the heat figure things out i dont know if we can beat them as constructed so melo would be a huge upgrade.

they oughta do this trade anyway
billups, martin, anderson are all kinda old and this is like instant rebuilding. most teams would kill for this option. only concern is PR
weaver > bogans
I can't imagine the PR will be so great if they let Melo walk without getting anything in return.

Bosh was far more ambiguous about wanting to leave
But I can’t imagine that Toronto fans are real happy with the team right now. I’m sure Denver fans understand that he’s not coming back. The only PR they have to worry about is if they don’t get any players back that excite the fan base
so, if we move deng for this guy
we still have a hole @ the 2, right? Or is melo the answer?

Well it becomes less of a liability since they'd have 2 guys who can get their shot off without any problems.
Still need a SG who can stretch the floor.

i dont think we'd need to
If you place rose and melo on opposite sides of the floor and have boozer and noah patroling the middle the defense can’t really collapse on any one guy. You can cheat off brewer or bogans but you can’t really cheat off any other player. So in theory rose or melo would always have an iso with boozer in the post and either bogans being wide open or brewer slashing around

That's what Miami Heat fans said too
It just doesn’t work like that. You need to have outside shooting and you need to have effective off-ball movement to create spacing. Thankfully, Rose is really good at working off the ball. Melo also has the potential to be an effective cutter, but he’s never really done it in Denver because that’s not really something that’s emphasized in George Karl’s system. If you can get Melo to buy into the idea of playing hard without the ball in his hands, you could have something great.
Pat Riley is the devil.
Something interesting I noticed there...
If Melo leaves, they seem to also want to trade Billups. What do you think it would take to grab him to back up Rose?
As high as his salary is
It would take Carlos Boozer. The Bulls don’t have the pieces to match for Billups.

Interesting idea
We could play him at the 2 like he did for Team USA. I’m not sure if Nuggets would be interested in a Brewer + Korver + CJ or if package or if that’d make us a better team, but it’s worth tossing around.
Pat Riley is the devil.
although i should make clear
i don’t like billups and don’t see any reasonable package to acquire him.
