Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

Around the NBA 12/25/10 - Christmas Edition

Merry Christmas to BaB...let's try to forget about that horrendous game we just witnessed vs. the Knicks. Pretty sweet lineup today. C's/Magic now, and later the gem of Heats/Lakers. Go Kobe? Some other thoughts on today: What does everyone think of the Magic trade? Kind of weird seeing Agent Zero relegated to backup PG duties. Shaq is massive. Dwight Howard just got a T for taking more than 10 seconds to shoot a free throw. Never seen that in my life.

C's Magic is a good one so far.

Garnett is sooo good. I hate him but love his game.

I kinda like Turkey Glue in there

but that line up is pretty sick. I want to see more Nelson and Arenas pair ups.

I think the Hawks finish with a better record than the Knicks

Unless Knicks trade for Carmelo. Knicks are really up-and-down.

I would actually rather see us play the Knicks than Hawks in the first-round. The quality of the two teams is pretty close, and the Knicks would be a way more fun match-up.

I'm in a sudden state of Bogans fueled depression once again

Every time I start thinking about Thibs being a jerkface and starting this guy, I get really down

Until Keith Bogans is taken out of the starting lineup, it's: Tommy Del Thibo

by Juiceboxjerry on Dec 25, 2010 9:48 PM CST reply actions

We need a clear #1 SG…
Not someone who starts because Bogans sucks. Apparently they don’t think Brewer or Korver are that guy.

News flash: Luol Deng is good...We now return you to your regularly scheduled hating...

by kingles on Dec 25, 2010 10:14 PM CST up reply actions

You seem to be underestimating just how bad Bogans is

Also underrating Ronnie Brewer. It’s a very big upgrade, and one that needs to made. Like, now.

Until Keith Bogans is taken out of the starting lineup, it's: Tommy Del Thibo

by Juiceboxjerry on Dec 25, 2010 10:45 PM CST up reply actions

I agree with you.
I’m just trying to figure out what the Bulls are thinking. It seems clear to me that if GarPax had a big issue with Bogans starting over Brewer it would change at some point. Therefore I can only assume that GarPax are ok with Thibs starting Bogans. If this is the case then clearly they see Brewer as just a bench guy, and Bogans is a placeholder for the REAL starter they hope to aquire.

News flash: Luol Deng is good...We now return you to your regularly scheduled hating...

by kingles on Dec 25, 2010 10:59 PM CST up reply actions

Well, one can only hope that is the case

At least that’s some sort of explanation. Although I have a hard time believing they would go that far

Until Keith Bogans is taken out of the starting lineup, it's: Tommy Del Thibo

by Juiceboxjerry on Dec 25, 2010 11:14 PM CST up reply actions

Clearly Thibs knows Brewer and Korver are better than Bogans.
His sub patterns indicate this. Even in those rare games when Bogans has shot well he plsys the first 6-9min of each half, and that’s it. He doesn’t get benched for bad play, or rewarded with more minutes when he plays better. Korver, Brewer, or CJ are always in there the rest of the time. Besides the explanation I gave the only other thing I can think of is that he’s trying to limit Brewers and Korvers minutes to keep them healthy/fresh/whatever. I think what I said is more logical.

I think it’s about continuity then. Instead of shuffling everybodys minutes around based on who’s hot at the time which is what would probably happen if Bogans is benched. It seems they have decided that it would be better to plug a new starter into Bogans+ Brewer’s or Korver’s minutes(they’d almost certainly have to give one of them up in a trade for a SG). This would make the transition to a new SG as seamless as is possible. I think they would feel more pressure to bench Bogans if they were 14-14 instead of 18-10. They’ve taken a strategical rather than a tactical approach to this, so I don’t expect it will change unless they go into a major slump, or they finally get the guy they want.

News flash: Luol Deng is good...We now return you to your regularly scheduled hating...

by kingles on Dec 26, 2010 8:30 AM CST up reply actions

thats stupid

you dont keep him in there so you can plug in another guy when you finally get him
who knows how long itll be until we get a competent 2 guard.
you cant give away games in the meantime and keep bogans in there
until you get a competent starter you need to insert brewer or korver.

Derrick Rose is a motherfucking ninja.

by sin on Dec 26, 2010 8:45 PM CST up reply actions

As a fan I agree with you.
I hate to see them lose even a single game because they’re giving guarranteed minutes to an inferior player. Personally I would start Brewer. I’m not the coach or the GM though, and clearly they see things differently. If i’m right, we’re going to be stuck with Bogans starting and getting 14-18min or so per game until they get the guy they want. Maybe they have somebody in their sights and think they can get him soon. I certainly hope this is the case. When they do, i’d say that we won’t see very much of Bogans anymore.

From the perspective of coaches and management continuity certainly has some value. They seem to be looking at this strategically and saying, ‘Boozer missed a bunch of games, and Noah is missing a bunch of games, but we’re still 19-10, leading our division by several games, etc.‘. They don’t seem to think that whatever damage Bogans is doing by getting the minutes he is, is worth dicking around with Brewer’s and Korver’s minutes and roles.

News flash: Luol Deng is good...We now return you to your regularly scheduled hating...

What's the consensus around here, would Bulls fans include Taj in a deal to get OJ Mayo?

Because I would do it in a second. I could care less about Boozer and Noah being injury concerns. Just juice up that starting five and figure out the rest later. Mayo is young and can grow with the team. Plus I think he’ll get a huge boost from playing on a good team in a big city. I want this guy BADLY

This is about the time that we could really use a media with some balls

KC is such an org-fellating asshat that it probably never even occurred to him that he should ask Thibs about this situation. If this was New York, there would be like three different papers ripping the shit out of him daily until he caved and made the switch. This thing is really hurting the team imo. Bogans gives us NOTHING. He has to be the worst starter in the league right now.

Until Keith Bogans is taken out of the starting lineup, it's: Tommy Del Thibo

I would

Kurt Thomas has shown a pulse and I’d say the past few games have shown how little impact Taj has in a backup role.

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Dec 26, 2010 1:35 AM CST up reply actions

I wouldn't,

not even if we could trade them straight up. Mayo is an inefficient volume scorer, and that’s about it. He’s a chucker. We don’t need him.

by Tim S. on Dec 26, 2010 5:46 AM CST up reply actions

I think this might be hard to get done because
The biggest incentive for Memphis to make a trade like this is to save money. Mayo doesn’t make that much. Something like this might work:

They save some money this year, and get at least better insurance policy if they either lose Randolph in FA or decide to trade him. Plus as I understand it (I could be wrong), Bogans contract isn’t guarranteed next year, so they’d save more money there.
