David Thorpe prefers Stephen Curry to Rose:
Az (Chicago)
Are you still standing by your statement that you'd rather have Steph Curry over Derrick Rose? Or would you like to apoligize for making such a ridiculous statement?David Thorpe (12:42 PM)
I'd still choose Curry, call me whatever you want. But I'd rather have Rose with the game on the line in an iso.

Can we now ignore everything that Thorpe has to say?
This is besides the fact that he kept posted comments from readers that pointed out just how little effort he put into this chat. Like this classic:
Roger (Philadelphia)
have you ever thought of backing up your ideas with anything? or is the yes, no, rotation guy, I don’t know what do you think? answers all you have?
Who does that on their own chat? I guess it would be okay if he was funny like Simmons.

I don't think he's ever going to rehash every single argument every time someone asks it.
It gets old. I don’t comment near as often as he does in chats, and I get tired of saying the same things over and over and over.
In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).
Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
Yeah, but he's paid to chat. Unless you and Matt have some sort of deal in place...
Until Keith Bogans is taken out of the starting lineup, it's Tom Del Thibodeau

Yeah, but he also has a loyal and steady following.
If he answered every question to the degree every asker wanted, he’d get through like 5 or 6 questions an hour. It would be less of a “chat” and more of a lecture. If you want to see why Thorpe thinks something, there are plenty of places to do it.

Somehow all the other chatters
manage to give more than one word answers and still get in more than 5 or 6 questions an hour. The choice between one word answers and an essay is a false dichotomy. A sentence or two of explanation is both reasonable and achievable.

speaking of which...
I’d like to know how many NBA players could, spontaneously, when asked, give an example of a false dichotomy.

And then people still call them stupid. So why bother?
He has a schtick.

That's like saying
your job is to make Whoppers and you only use one bun instead of two because that’s just how you roll. It’s his job to give feedback to posters and he’s not doing that. He’s just being simple and not adding much to the conversation. So when he says something like he prefers Curry over Rose, he just further validates how simple he really is.
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
To be fair he's explained why before, multiple times
in other words, what tyger said.
I got the skills to pay the bills and that's about it

Ok I'll call you.. hmm ignorant.
Yeah ignorant.
ALL I want for Christmas is a starting NBA shooting guard and throw in a decent backup point guard!!! Come on Paxson.. seriously John Lucas 3?
Are you agreeing with Thorpe or saying that he is ignorant?
Also, if he wants Rose with the game on the line, does that mean he wants Curry when the game is already decided because he can’t take over a game like Rose in the first place?

I calling him(Thorpe) ignorant.
He’s going to choose Curry yet he wants Rose at the end of the game? That a stupid person statement because last time I checked you could only draft one person.

Can we not explode in anger every time some analyst slights Rose in some small way?
It’s getting a little stale.

We should still be a bit incredulous though should we not?
It’s like some of these guys have never seen Derrick play.
News flash: Luol Deng is good...We now return you to your regularly scheduled hating...
Steph Curry's pretty good
It definitely doesn’t surprise me that some small % of the population considers him to be better than Rose. To each his own, I say.
Pat Riley is the devil.
I agree that Curry is good.
I don’t really get outraged by these comparisons, because they don’t really matter. I understand why people do though. It’s kind of unfair to Curry to even compare him to Rose at this point. Their NBA track records aren’t even that close. Give Curry some more time, and a decent team to play on and then we’ll see.
News flash: Luol Deng is good...We now return you to your regularly scheduled hating...
And to clarify, it'd be different if he directly said something negative about Rose
Then, I ‘d get a little riled up. But that’s not the case.
Pat Riley is the devil.
Really?
I mean, isn’t that what about 90% of people on here do in every way?

As soon as some of these
analyst quit with the stubborn analysis of trying to make ridiculous claims. Curry is good but he’s not lifting the overall success of his team like Rose is. So it’s getting stale to see these comparisons every other day to Rose.
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
Yet people keep bringing it up
Thorpe didn’t go out of his way to say Curry is better than Rose (which, by the way, is far less ridiculous than some of the statements you’ve made about Luol Deng). He was asked a question and he gave his opinion. Haven’t you posted about 100 indignant comments about how everyone has a right to an opinion?
Pat Riley is the devil.

Ding-ding-ding-ding.... That is the correct answer!
You are the winner of BaB! That is exactly why he would want Curry. Rose is better than Curry in almost everyway except shooting…. Maybe.

This is the same guy who said not to give Griffin the ROY yet because of...
Landry Fields. So it’s hard to take his very existence seriously.

Landry Fields could be the first player to win ROY/MVP in the same season.

Since Wes Unseld you mean
Well, isn't what LeBron did last night the living embodiment of The Secret, leaving millions on the table and turning himself into a hometown villain, all for the sake of winning?
Neil Paine, basketball-reference.com
I guess so…
Unseld was already a veteran when i started watching bball. I just remember him as a really good defensive/rebounding player. It’s hard to believe he was able to do that in an era with guys like Chamberlain, Robertson, West, etc.. I was joking about Fields of course, but I am really shocked that this had actually happened.

Good, so we'll never have to read your comments about his ever again, right?

Interesting Guy; Bad Analysis
Thorpe is also the guy who said Tyrus was on the verge of stardom and that Kevin Martin was a guaranteed All-Star. I think they were both his clients, so…
Hmmm...
I’m still not sleeping on either of those predictions.

For such a hardass
Blake sure knows how to flop…get the call…and then bitch about something else at the other end of the court
Yeah, and it took forever for Thorpse to declare Rose ROY
in Derrick’s first season.
Nothing new here. Thorpe isn’t a as big a Rose fan as some of other ESPN guys (Bucher,Simmons, Wilbon, etc).
