"KG called me a cancer patient, I'm pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he's tossing it like it's a joke,"

Charlie Villanueva.

If anyone had any doubt what a low-class punk Kevin Garnett is, here you go.

It’s obviously not a big deal that he spelled it wrong here. But is it inconceivable that DRose01 would’ve gone on to make the same mistake in a setting where it actually mattered?

Wow...

This is not even KG hating, it just shows a complete lack of class and compassion…Charlie Villanueva is not making a fashion statement, he suffers from a disease Alopecia…which if KG had an education, he would understand is significantly different from cancer…So, he is either a complete fucking idiot or complete fucking asshole.

KG is both

The guy just doesn’t get it while he’s playing. He’s completely oblivious to anything other than winning while suited up.

I doubt that's the worst thing KG or any other player has said on the court.

If people didn’t feel so sorry for him in Minnesota the Garnett backlash would have started a lot sooner.

TS% = Thabo Sefolosha percentage. It calculates how much you can be like Thabo Sefolosha. That’s why Keith Bogans is at 70%.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

I've never seen KG fight anyone

It’s easy to talk a lot of trash when you know the NBA has strict anti-fighting rules and automatic suspensions for anyone throwing a punch. If he said this kind of stuff in the 80’s, he might have had to back up his words with his fists. Even with the anti-fighting rules, he doesn’t exactly take on the toughest targets.

Yup, that sure sounds like KG’s style. I’d like to see what would happen if he ever insulted someone like Stephen Jackson in such a personal manner. Somehow I’m guessing Jackson would have a different response than Villanueva.

I saw this quote in true hoop awhile back:
On Kevin Garnett:
"Garnett is great too. He’s also not young anymore, but still plays brilliant at a very high level. Though sometimes he doesn’t fight fair. Of course they overlook what he does, or maybe they just don’t notice a lot of things. Or maybe it’s just my perception because I’m not used to it. But at least when I was watching him on TV I never thought he used tricks like this. By the way, he too is much bigger in real life than on the screen"

Sovetskiy Sport quotes Mozgov:

"Kevin Garnett surprised me. I always admired him and had no idea that he could play this dirty. He was pushing me when nobody was looking, trying to provoke me.

"It even made me laugh – a player of great skills who would use tricks like this."

I like this one on Shaq.
"It’s funny that Shaquille puts four giant cushions on his seat, – Mozgov told Sport-Express. – Probably regular chairs are too hard for him. Some of our guys also put cushions on their seats, but no more than two. And there he has four! When me and Gallinari saw that, we burst out laughing".

Garnett now saying he didn't say that Charlie V had cancer...he said he was cancer
"I am aware there was a major miscommunication regarding something I said on the court last night," Garnett said in a statement from his representatives released by the Celtics. "My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact, ‘You are cancerous to your team and our league.’ I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball."

I’m going to teach a class to NBA players on how to make a believable sounding lie. Garnett would have been more believable if he just denied the whole thing, rather than claiming he trash talks in the middle of a heated competition using sentences like that.

how is this shit news?

by mrdope on Nov 3, 2010 6:56 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

I agree

It was distasteful, but in that context, I’m statements like that are pretty standard. That doesn’t make it okay, but it does make it unfair to single out KG and vilify him. Also, I don’t think this reflects well on Villanueva. When you make a private comment, there’s an implication that it should remain private. For him to report this to the media just to make Garnett look bad is pretty scummy, IMO. I’d hope that Villanueva would have thick enough skin to let something like this go, and even if he was truly offended, if you got a problem with somebody, you let them know directly, not by whining to the media.

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Nov 3, 2010 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Its not scummy considering he's the lead figure

in the fight against the bullying of kids that have the same disease as he does. How do you react when someone bullies you as an adult just like the little kids he represents get bullied everyday ? I think he reacted poorly, but he’s in a unique situation, and he reacted uniquely.

Don't know a whole heck of a lot about Charlie V, except that he went to Uconn

Was a good player there, but hasn’t done a whole lot in the NBA. I was aware of his illness, and although he probably should have just faced KG and told him straight up, you are a goddam arrogant fool. However, KG has been known to be a punk and his over excitement and in your face attitude has been well documented, but not really scrutinized, probably because people didn’t really care for it or just felt it was part of him getting pumped up to play and compete on a daily basis. He’s a punk, no doubt about it. He was angry with the way the Cavs were celebrating and dancing on the sidelines last year. That’s nothing compared to what he does. Even though I didn’t like that either!
