This is good news,

although I hope Thibs doesn’t put him out there for extended minutes tonight. Tonight would be a good night for some Jomer, as both Odom and Gasol are good rebounders, while Taj isn’t. Our front-court will be tested tonight.

by dakoose on Nov 23, 2010 12:49 PM CST reply actions

I'll qualify what I said above by saying that he's a decent rebounder,

but i think he will get out-rebounded by Odom and Gasol, especially with his foot issue.

by dakoose on Nov 23, 2010 1:46 PM CST up reply actions

I dunno about that.

I think Omer might be more effective tonight. Gasol has been unreal this year and Odom is playing at a high level. Playing two seven footers(Jomer) might pay off.

by dakoose on Nov 23, 2010 2:09 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

ill agree

but its not because of ability, omer is just a bigger body, and has the length to really keep a good rebounding team like the lakers off the board….especially on our defensive end this will be key…

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

taj is a decent rebounder

for our awesome rebounding team. Seriously, taj is a great rebounder, its just there are so many boards to go around and noah and asik are usually the ones who end up with the boards. The best thing i like about our team is that we have guys who are really good at doing the job of rebounding, even if they dont get the board. Boxing out, keeping the ball in the air, taj, noah, asik, and deng, and eventually boozer will all be doing this…even a team like the magic are gonna have trouble finding boards cuz you will have our guys really throwing their bodies into other guys and preventing the other team from getting boards.

Taj might have some stone hands at times, but he does those little things really well..its one of the few traits i like about him…

Well...if you look at February and March of last season,

you can see if Taj really is, as you said, a victim of Noah’s awesomeness. Noah Missed most of the games in that stretch and in the games he played he didn’t go beyond 30 minutes. Here’s the good stuff:

Taj averaged ~8.3 rebounds in those two months, playing ~29 minutes/game. SO in games without Noah, he was passable, but not great as you said he is. I maintain my position that Taj is a decent rebounder, but he has to improve in the department to be considered good/great.

by dakoose on Nov 23, 2010 5:22 PM CST up reply actions

Thats actually great

10.3 rebounds in 36 minutes, (Normal for a starter) only about 5-6 guys get that per year, excluding the guys who play less than 20 minutes

Taj is freaking awesome, mostly because he actually tries, unlike some overpaid big men, Dampier, Chandler, Hayward, Bosh, Amare etc……

by Trey23 on Nov 23, 2010 5:33 PM CST up reply actions

No,

that’s merely solid, as he was the only big worth a shit out there for the Bulls. People say GREAT like it’s nothing. Taj is great at nothing, and you need to understand that. He’s a decent rebounder. A great rebounder averages 13,14+ boards/game. Rodman was a great rebounder, as was Barkley and Jayson Williams for a short while.

by dakoose on Nov 23, 2010 8:37 PM CST up reply actions

He is coming off a 18 board game

I think he will do just fine on the boards.

I remember once former Bull Dave Corzine staring at a stat sheet after a loss when he had one rebound and Michael Jordan offering, "One more rebound than a dead man."

The Bulls have a real coach this season, one who actually knows how to design a defense for the Triangle, and an offense that extends beyond “Thrust”.

Love the racial harmony between these teams.

If I got Derrick Rose in a room alone what I would do is not acceptable by law. But it would result in our kids.

Check it out for yourself

Denver was the best team they faced so far at 8-6, and they lost to them. They did beat Portland, who has the same record, but Portland has been a much worse team since Roy started struggling.

I hate the word 'try' in these situations!

I hope he doesn’t try anything stupid and before you know it, we have injury problems again! Be smart, take care of your foot and get ready for whenever you think you will be ready to play. Way too early in the season to be ‘trying’ to play. Yeah this is the Lakers we are talking about, but it’s not like it’s a must win. I mean I would love for us to win in triple overtime on a buzzer beater, but this is a long term process, not a hit or miss project for this season. If he play, cool, but I hope he knows what he is doing!

I doubt it

If anything it’ll be Artest. He’s the defensive “stopper”.

by runningman on Nov 23, 2010 7:08 PM CST up reply actions

Doubtful they put Artest on him, he doesn't have the quickness to stay in front of Rose

in the battle of bloggers preview they have on ESPN, the Lakers guy says Artest will cover rose:
The Lakers have former Defensive Player of the Year, Ron Artest, who did a bang-up job against another quick, scoring guard in Monta Ellis on Sunday. They’ll have Ron chase Rose around. If the Bulls start going to their pick-and-roll, the Lakers will rely on Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom to step up and wall off the lane whenever Rose turns the corner. They will also need to be cognizant of taking bad shots that lead to long defensive rebounds for Chicago because that’s an easy way for Rose to break out in transition where he’s a beast to defend.

by silentpete on Nov 23, 2010 7:23 PM CST up reply actions

Guess I shouldn't have put it past Phil to do something like that

Maybe it's wishful thinking...

but if Artest is on Rose, I think Deng goes off. And it’s at least keeps us close.
