Around SBN: Where Do The Lakers Go From Here?

"If the Bulls find themselves in the type of situation they did on Wednesday night in the fourth quarter against the Thunder, Tom Thibodeau has given his team a directive to follow for the coming weeks ahead: Get the ball into the paint and see what happens."

"Thibodeau's plan would be a lot easier to follow if Carlos Boozer wasn't still out with a broken right pinky, but for the time being Thibodeau doesn't really care how the ball gets there, just that it does. That means that you could see Derrick Rose try to drive into the middle of the floor just as easily as Joakim Noah could handle it on the blocks."

Lots of other interesting nuggets in the article, such as why Korver did not/may not see a lot of minutes.

Yeah, I read that too

Simple solution on paper. Just needs to be executed. Rose CAN get inside, but he needs his guys to be more active without the ball. In that 4th quarter the offense devolved into VDN ball.

Noah had a few successful FGA in the post against the Thunder.

In my opinion, it’s the games against teams like the Thunder and Pistons, teams without a strong front court, that they can dump the ball in to Noah in the post and see what happens. He may never be a great post up/back to the basket player, but trying to build some confidence in this stretch without Boozer may not be a bad idea. So, in that sense, I think Thibs is right on the money in terms of getting the ball inside.

Its not just the scoring opportunities for Noah

in the post. When you throw it to Noah in the post, it breaks down the defense in the same way a drive into the paint does. Noah can pass out of the post very well, the good ball movement really starts with Noah rather than with Rose.

Easier said than done.

That’s precisely one of our biggest weaknesses. Posting up and trying to get fouls going our way. Boozer was supposed to be one of those guys. It will be interesting to see what he does when he comes back. I would love for Noah to start playing post up more often. That will open up Derek’s game even more and will give shooters like Deng and Korver more confidence with their shot.

I agree with this idea.

Noah, Asik and Gibson are good enough to at least get touches in the post. I don’t care if half the time they have to pass the ball out and they turn it over a time or two. I just want them handling the ball more and creating here and there.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

From I've seen from Noah starting near the end of last season

he hasn’t been that bad in the post.. It’s something that he will have to add to his game anyway so It would be great to see him get in there.

... And Thibs said, "Let there be 3's" and Deng made 3's
And Deng saw the 3's, that they were good
And didn't shoot long 2's anymore.

“I think I wanted it too bad,” [Rose] said of his late-game performance. “As a player, being a leader for the team, you want to be that guy. And games like [Wednesday] make you chase after them. Where it’s the first game. you’re playing against a good team on the road and you just want to quiet their crowd down and you chase after it. But we got a couple of play sets that we’re going to run, definitely in the fourth quarter, if we get stuck holding the ball and we’re going to get the ball moving.”

i said this during the summer

but it iwould be awesome if rose learned that post up game that billups used to use when he was really good. rose has basically a size advantage over every point guard in this league outside of maybe deron tyreke westbrook.

watching the boston heat game earlier this week they tried to get rondo to post up arroyo but rondo couldnt score well after posting up but rose on the other hand has a decent midrange game. i would love to see us trying korver deng on the wings standing in the corners for a kickout and rose trying to post up on opposing points

This may go down as the most retarded decade in NBA history.

I've been saying that for two years!

One of Rose’s “special” abilities is his ability to finish close with either hand. He’s already got a fine jump hook as well. He should work his way into the post once in a while, especially against the league’s smaller point guards: Jameer Nelson, Brandon Jennings, Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Mario Chalmers, Mo Williams, Ty Lawson, etc.
