Team of the Decade (1999-00 to 2008-09)

Hey Blog a Bull citizens, I am new to this forum so I thought I would get my feet wet by posting a meaningless, but hopefully fun FanPost. I have been reading the game threads and other fan posts and felt that I just had to dive into the arguments. Here is my team of the decade (1999-00 to 2008-09):

STARTERS

Eddy Curry, C
Elton Brand, PF
Luol Deng, SF
Jalen Rose, SG (Probably my favorite)
Derrick Rose, PG

BENCH

Ben Gordon, SG (My other favorite)
Kirk Hinrich, PG
Donyell Marshall, PF
Jamal Crawford, SG
Tyson Chandler, C
Ron Mercer, SG
Ron Artest, SF

COACH

Scott Skiles

HONORABLE MENTION

Andres Nocioni, SF

Not exactly the Los Angeles Lakers. In fact, the grim reality is that these are the best the Bulls had to offer the previous decade. There were no all-stars and the team was a laughable 317-503 (the 5th worst in the NBA during that stretch), though they managed to quietly sneak four playoff appearances into those ten years.

this seems fit for like last week.

I realized that.

But I figured that I would use the “still the first week of the new decade” excuse.

The Chicago Bulls team of the decade

would struggle to make the playoffs in the western conference.

Yeah.

They would be sort of like this season’s Grizzlies. Not bad, but not particularly great.

My Chicago Bulls.

If we are constructing a team to win out of all the players in the decade…
C: Joakim Noah – even if its only a third of a season…
PF: Elton Brand – a given.
SF: Luol Deng – on this team he would have to be the fourth option.
SG: Ben Gordon – best Bulls stint of the decade.
PG: Derrick Rose – dur.

Bench
Kirk Hinrich
Jalen Rose
Jamal Crawford
Ron Artest – has he had the best career of any Bulls player in the last decade?
Andres Nocioni – Three point shooting and enthusiasm :D
Donyell Marshall
Tyson Chandler

Coach: Scott Skiles

(I would have gone with Wallace over Chandler but well, I wanted to keep Skiles)

by Super-Structure on Jan 7, 2010 12:40 AM CST reply actions

Deng is a 5th option for me because he seems to have very little impact on each game.

Ben Gordon
Jalen Rose
Derrick Rose
Elton Brand
Luol Deng

I was going to post my own, but then realized Super-Structure's was the exact same

gotta have fred hoiberg in there

he got the bulls through some tough games

I'm cuckoo for Kukoc!!!

by Yibs on Jan 7, 2010 12:25 PM CST up reply actions

I would make some changes

Gordon starts at SG, for sure
Nocioni for Marshall
Big Ben starting over Curry
TT over Ron Mercer – he sucked
Curry goes to Honorable mention

by JustAnotherFan on Jan 7, 2010 7:21 AM CST reply actions

You forgot Dickey Simpkins

and Jud Buechler. Or maybe Rusty LaRue, didn’t we have him for awhile?

Dicky and Rusty were much more prominent on the team in the '90s.

As you can tell, I chose my team with strict standards.

Beuch unfortunately didn’t get a chance to play with the Bulls this decade.

Not bad but get Nocioni out of that list

START – SF – high flyin E-ROB- Eddie Robinson

Back ups -
C- Jake Voskuhl
PF- Lonny Baxter
SF- Chris Carr
SG- John Starks
PG – Travis Best

It could be worse - at least we arent starting Randy Brown, Chris Carr, Matt Maloney, Dickey Simpkins, and Rusty LaRue

Where is Rusty?

E-Rob

You may find this funny but I actually considered throwing him into the honorable mentions since he was one of the more entertaining post-Jordan Bulls players. Unfortunately, Tyrus Thomas is destined to follow in E-Rob’s footsteps.

They really could have used him better

Whenever he came off of those curls, his mid range jumper was money. They should have used him more in that manner. Oh well.

I like the idea...

Here is how I would break down my team…

Derrick Rose and Elton Brand won the Rookie of the Year award…
Ben Gordon won the Sixth man of the Year award…
Eddy Curry led the league in Field Goal Percentage…
Luol Deng has played the most games at his position….

C-Eddy Curry
PF-Elton Brand
SF-Luol Deng
SG-Ben Gordon
PG-Derrick Rose

Bench.

C-Noah, Miller
PF-Chandler, Davis
SF-Rose, Nocioni
SG-Crawford
PG-Hinrch, Duhon

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

Here's my team

PG-Hinrich
SG-Gordon
SF-Deng
PF-Brand
C-Chandler

Bench:
Rose (1.5 years for the last 10…Hinrich was pretty good there for a while, don’t really know what happened, but Rose easily is it this decade barring some crazy injury).

Jalen Rose and Jamal Crawford back up Gordon

Andres Nocioni backs up Deng, there’s no way he’s not on this list as our team MVP 3-4 yrs ago (one of our playorr years), Jalen Rose alternates

??? We haven’t really had one. Tyrus too inconsistent, Noah’s a C though can be a PF but is just getting good reallyt he last 6-8 months of the decade….Malik Allen? Sweets, Harrington, PJ Brown….sadly PJ Brown would be it for his 1 year of for him abysmality….he was good in the past, but save for the 1 playoff game, was not what he was in Chicago…

Curry was our backup C, Tyson was and even with injuries still is far better. Curry had more upside because of the offensive skill but never hit.

So let’s see that’s
Hinrich-Gordon-Deng-Brand-Chandler-Rose-Rose-Crawford-Nocioni-Chandler

getting the spots, with Noah’s last 6 months earnng him a spot and I guess TYrus for upside (Tyrus is there, but hasn’t gotten enough of a consistent role).

Talent, but still not enough….and Brand really is there by default because he’s easily our best PF but only played what 2 yrs if that really young and became really good between injuries in LA.

Sadly....through thick and thin....

by majoyenrac on Jan 7, 2010 10:30 AM CST reply actions

Here we go

PG Rose
SG BG
SF Artest
PF Brand
C Noah

Bench

PG Kurt
SG Larry Hughes, Thabo
C Brad Miller, PJ Brown
SF Deng, Nocioni both playing the 4 for Elton at times

This team would kick your ass. And make you like it.

by Trey23 on Jan 8, 2010 3:49 PM CST reply actions

Rose, BG, Deng, Brand, Noah backed by Kirk, Chandler & Artest

Although when I tell my kids about my love of this team, this entire decade would be conspicuously left out.
