I remember Red Kerr talking about how PJ would sit MJ

near the end of the third to early in the 4th, so he could get about 6-8 minutes real time on the bench, while only missing 2-3 minutes game time.

We miss you, Ben Gordon!

Lets see how long Vinny sits Rose.

Rose ought to come back in with about 11 minutes left in the 4th.

i wonder if Jordan has this burning desire to prove he can out-do krause at his own job, so he pays the refs off every time the Bulls come to town.

But it was so obvious he didn’t want to shoot it. A wide open 12 footer. It had no chance to go in, because he was choking up. I feel bad for the guy, but he is just not the player to be next to Derrick. It’s just agonizing. The issues are so obvious. Same issue as last game.

But let’s be real. Derrick ruled the bobcats in the 4th. But he pretty much chilled for the middle two quarters.

But you know – a 21 year old point guard shouldn’t have to carry a team by himself. It just really sucks how this organization has hamstrung him by not giving him…well, you know.

Good point.

Lost in all good feeling over the win streak was the fact that Luol Deng, in his stealthy way, started to suck again. But he did hit the boards pretty hard. He’s just not a talent that can control a game.

Much though optimism won't be welcome on this board....

We shot over 50% and scored a season high for points. The Bobcats have been better than people are giving them credit for, especially at home, and this was the second of a back-to-back.

Any loss is frustrating, but the end of the world stuff is overdoing it.

by Daniel Satan on Jan 5, 2010 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

I'm frustrated with the loss, too

Obviously if they want to be a top tier team they need to win these tight ones.

I just find it old at this point that every single loss leads to calls for Vinny’s head, all the players to be traded, and predictions that the team won’t make the postseason. That crap makes some sense after a blowout or losing a big lead, but imo it’s hugely misplaced after a game like tonights.

agreed/rec'd

the players are playing up to their capabilities.

we just don’t have enough talent. it’s been the problem since day 1. as yfbb loves to say, this franchise “hates talent.” they value “hustle,” “leadership,” and “loyalty,” 3 things which in this case have nothing to do with results on the basketball court. it just plays into image, which is all the bulls have to maintain.

i know what you're gettin at,

but even then they lost a ton of games they shoulda won. in the meantime, there’s no bringing back the player you’re referring to, but one thing they CAN do is remove one GLARING weakness on this team by firing Vinny.

by Daniel Satan on Jan 5, 2010 9:09 PM CST up reply actions

I looked up this year's, and it's actually even

For games decided by 5 points or less, the Bulls have 5 wins and 5 losses. 1 point games the record is 1-1.

Games decided by 6-10 points, Bulls’ record is 6-4.

The killer is the record in games decided by more than 10 points – 3 wins to 10 losses.

If I don’t get bored, I’ll look up last season too and do Vinny’s whole record.

Just waiting on some offense....

by wjb1492 on Jan 5, 2010 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

Interesting

I looked up last year

Type	W	L	W%
0-5 9 12 43% 11% 15% 26%
6-10 15 12 56% 18% 15% 33%
>10 17 17 50% 21% 21% 41%

What it says, I guess, is that the Bulls no longer ever seem capable of winning by a comfortable margin. Because they struggle so much to score, they have very little margin for error. Every game is going to be a nail biter. Unless we’re getting our doors blown off, which we seem to do at about last year’s rate.

Last year they were slightly worse at close games, but much more capable of winning by wider margins.

If I had to sum it up, I’d guess that Vinny is slightly better at coaching and he’s got a crummier team to work with.

it’s that the flaws in this team are so correctable, and so obvious, which makes it frustrating to watch. We idolize players like Kirk, because they hustle, ignoring their bigger flaws. We pay our head coach less than our team doctor.

We keep getting hit in the face with the same stuff. Sooner or later, you say “ow.”

All of that is true whether the game is a win or a loss.

I don’t think anything is different after these two losses, the Bulls are still on track to make the playoffs, and Rose is getting better despite no help from his teammates or coach.

Hopefully these two losses bring everyone who might have been fooled by the post-Tyrus bubble back to earth and makes us cognizant of the 1000 pound elephant in the room – ownership and management in general. until they change or change their philosophy, nothing will ever change.

tonight was what we’ve seen so many times over and over again this season. rose on his own having to do pretty much everything. get used to it because this is what we’ll be seeing for the next however many years he’s imprisoned on this team.

Stern is a genius and

you lack a sense of perspective. In my lifetime, pro ball was played in places like the New York Armory and the Cow Palace. I remember 300 people showing up in an underheated gym to watch the Knicks play Syracuse, Players shot set shots and a good game might get into the 80’s. Fast forward through Stern’s ham-fisted vision, and you have arguable the most popular emerging spectator sport in the world. The league is so much more athletic and the players are so much better conditioned. And it has a license to print money. You want “purity”, where filthy luchre plays no role? Go see some AAU games. I’ve been watching basketball religiously for more that 50 years and this is the best I have ever seen it played. Give me a team of Wade, LeBron, Kobe, Howard & Chris Paul and I would be competitive against any team from any other era. Great coaching now, as well. (Not counting the Bulls, of course). David Stern may seem be kinda dorky, and he dresses like a staff accountant from TJ Maxx, but he’s a fucking genius who built a multi-billion dollar international business. Credit where credit is due, Maybe we can have him take over the Bulls.

I miss BG

Kirk actually made 2-6 from the arc and Salmons 3 of 6, I still feel like they shot so poorly. Kirk missed an open 12 footer with the game on the line and Salmons had a wide open chance to tie and missed. Kirk and Salmons had so many missed open shots. At this point, I’d take anyone that can drain an open three consistently to replace either of these guys.

by DRose01 on Jan 6, 2010 7:15 AM CST up reply actions

Ben going to another team probably did more for his idol status than staying ever could have.

Now everyone can just hold onto the false memories of Ben never missing a shot. The legend grows, and no one ever measures up to a legend. And for the record, I like Ben, would have liked the Bulls to keep him, and am quite glad for him that he got his money.

But as much as people gripe on how poorly the Bulls have shot the 3 this season, has anyone looked at the stats and actually realized that both John and Kirk have shot the 3 better than Ben so far this season?

Ben 34.0% 3-point shooting, 30% over the last 5 games, 0-4 last night. (Although he’s actually only played 4 of those last 5 games.)

John 35.0% 3-point shooting, 55.6% over the last 5, 3-6 last night.

Kirk 36.1% 3-point shooting, 42.1% over the last 5, 2-6 last night.

(And no, I’m not saying this will hold forever, or that Ben has not been the best over his career, or that all 3 points shots are equal – just pointing something out that I doubt many people have realized while busy missing Ben and his stellar 3-point shooting.)

Just waiting on some offense....

I didn’t watch a single minute therefore I have no need to moniter my blood pressure.

So can I just assume that Vinny was outcoached again and his subtitutions continue to indicate he’s still flying by the seat of his pants with a load in his drawers?

The real question that should be asked about our guards should be would you prefer death by firing squad or by hanging? In either case, the results are the same. If the Bulls have to rely on them to pull out a close game, than you can be assured that the corpse cannot be revived,

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.
