Hard Cap
Woah, this certainly changes 20months of predicting the 2010 FA saga for the Bulls.
Brief Recap - SI's Ian Thomsen is reporting he thinks there is gonna be a Hard Salary Cap ( no more chance of going into the lux. tax) as result of 2011 CBA. WOW ...discuss

Cool article
I like this quote:
“Our players don’t save money,” he said, and so he predicts that a few months without income will force the players to cave in and accept the owners’ demands, including an instantaneous reduction in salaries
I still think this is all bs though, it reminds me of Democratic and Republican talking points before a big vote. Two years ago, the Warriors and Clippers were tossing out $50 million dollar contracts to anyone who could wear a headband, yet now after 1.5 tough seasons, the owners can only afford $8 mil a year for the game’s best?
Yeah the owners
are being overly optimistic. I see them decertifying the union before they accept instantaneous salary cuts.
Vinny: "[Thrust] means pace, it means getting the ball out, it means getting your back to the sidelines, it means extending your outlets, it means getting the ball up the court into our early offense with plenty of time."
A lot of players live check to check and can't afford to go months without a paycheck
this is what happened last time. it’s not merely conjecture on the owners’ part
This is the second time I've heard this,
What’s the nba league minimum?
by BigBabyCollin on Jan 30, 2010 9:09 AM CST up reply actions
It depends...
The fact that NBA players don’t save any money isn’t that far fetched. Many of them have friends and friends of friends to “support” and Bill Simmons for all his faults has been pointing this out since the last lockout.
It wouldn’t hurt guys like LeBron or Wade or even Rose who have other revenue streams from endorsements but even those start to dwindle as Adidas probably can’t sell someones basketball shoes if they’re not actually playing basketball.
plus I've read that the minimum guys
try to act like the max contract guys to keep up with the joneses.

Certainly makes sense with the whole lifestyle
Gambling on planes, going out to eat/clubs, that shit is expensive and I think people for some reason assume athletes rarely pay for themselves.

I like this quote
That’s why the Celtics made a run last month at acquiring Kirk Hinrich, who has three years (including this season) and $26.5 million left on his contract, an outlandish amount for someone who would be Boston’s third guard. But he would have resolved all of Boston’s backcourt issues while extending its defense, and so the Celtics considered offering spare parts for Hinrich before the Bulls decided they needed a high-quality player or draft pick in the exchange.

WAIT, WHAT?
Please don’t tell me those spare parts were all expiring, and the Bulls turned it down.
Spears spent a couple seasons at the Boston Globe before Yahoo!, so he’d likely know more than whatever our beat guys get shoved in their mouths.

whoops, this isn't the Spears post
I was confusing threads.
But still, that’s friggin NEWS if the Celtics were cool with taking on Kurt and the Bulls balked. Depressing news.

I think Hard salary caps hurt fans and owners more than players
but if they want to fool themselves in to thinking that a hard cap is going to save themselves from their own bad decisions, than have at it.
I do like the idea of tying contracts to revenue, but it has to be a little more flushed out. If you tie contracts directly to team revenues, than everyone is going to want to play in Chicago, NY and LA, because those teams produce revenue even when they suck. You would have to pry guys away from those teams with crowbars. Meanwhile, no one would set foot in Memphis or ATL

This would help the Bulls so they should push for it. :)
It’s candy. I don’t eat poop-flavored candy. I’m not going to watch poop-level basketball.

If the salaries go too low in the new CBA,
the best players will end up on EuroLeague teams.
We miss you, Ben Gordon!
