Wade Predictions for 2010 By ESPN

Update! 9/10/09

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=OffseasonPredictions09-WadeFuture

15% chance of him coming to Chicago... ;___;

Star-divide

The Heat do not currently have a roster that can complete with the Elites like the Cavs, the Celtics, and the Magic

They got a rookie PG in Chalmers. Good defender. Decent passer. Can shoot the trey. Young and has first year playoff experience.

At SF they got two scrubs. Quentin Richardson and James Jones. Richardson spent most of summer being pawned off by other teams... LOL.

PF they got Haslem and Beasley...Beasley showed some flashes of not only be a great scorer but a great rebounder. I think all that BS with him going to rehab is exaggerated. Weed does not make you crazy... NOBODY needs rehab for that. Haslem is a solid player. Can rebound well and can get you to points while shooting 50% from the field. Hes got a ring too.

At Center they got... Jermaine O'Neal. He still has trouble staying consistently health. When he is healthy he can be an Elite Level Scorer/Rebounder/Shotblocker. He hasn't done that in years... Like waaay back when he was in Indiana.

Their bench consist of Former D-Leaguer Chris Quinn, Daeqon Cook AKA 3 Point Shooting Champion, Luther Head, Jamaal Magloire. Magloire used too be a decent player but he somehow got himself downgraded to "scrub" status.

Wade has the option of coming back to the Heat next year... but not necessarily the same team...

Looking at Heats payrole...

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/miami.htm

Wade has a player option next year (duh). Nobody expects him to take that. He's gonna be high rollin. Max Contract.

Then look at the list of all the players that expire 2010:

  • O'neal (He definitely would have lots of value if he can stay health... Maybe be used as trade bait)
  • Richardson (Cap Clearer/Trade bait)
  • Haslem (He's solid enough to be a starter... and trade bait)
  • Wright (Cap Clearer/Trade bait)
  • Magloire (Cap Clearer/Trade bait)
  • Quinn (Cap Clearer)
  • Diawara (Cap Clearer)
  • Anthony (Cap Clearer)

Thats 8 players that come off the Heats payrole next year OR can be traded this season...

Then look at the list of all players that have team options in 2010:

  • Beasley (Which they will honor)
  • Cook (Solid Role Player I would think they would honor unless his production dramatically decreases)
  • Chalmers (Put up decent numbers as a rookie... hes cheap too... they will honor)

Riley has a lot of options this year and next year... He could potentially trade some expiring deals to land a solid starter... and assuming that he resigns D.Wade... he could also have room to sign someone like Bosh or A'mare...

Heat can really do some damage next off-season... Wade has stated before that he is "leaning towards" staying with the Heat. Riley is planning something... but the Heat will live and die by Wade's decision next off-season.

As of right now I would say that the Heat are realistically in the best position to resign Wade...

The only chance I see the Bulls luring Wade away is...

  • Rose literally evolves into a "greater being." He produces at an accelerated rate that hasn't been seen since like "Jordan."
  • Bulls manage to trade Hinrich's contract for some expiring deals. He's got playoff experience and a proven starter in the league. In a perfect scenario the Bulls would have a backup PG that produces like a backup PG and gets paid like a backup PG.
  • Bulls are able to make an uber trade this coming season and get their hands on a solid-allstar. I can't really think of any potential trades the Bulls can make and the only valuable assets they have are Hinrich, Thomas, and some cheap pieces like Pargo and Gray.
  • Deng goes back to averaging 17 Points, 7 Boards, and a steal and shoot like 44% from the field.
  • Noah builds upon his playoff run and averages double digit rebounding and elite level shot-blocking...
  • James Johnson turns out to be a steal... which is doubtful because theres a reason he was drafted 16th overall.
  • Heat lose 50+ games this year and miss the playoffs.
  • Bulls makes a good run in the playoffs...
  • All of these happen collectively

Bulls should sign Bosh

Not Wade, even if he wants to come

by chapuforyou on Sep 9, 2009 8:47 AM CDT reply actions

No.

Wade is a superstar, Bosh is not. Talent > position.

"Vinny continues to act like a crazed arsonist pouring gasoline on our season while running around carrying a torch yelling 'I’m in charge. Don’t any of you foolish knaves try to second guess me. I know gasoline is a liquid but I’m pretty sure it isn’t flammable and the odor gives me a natural high.'" - Tyrusmancrush

Oh yeah!

Don’t tell that to Dr. Jack Ramsay!!!

I have seen a QB and it was good.

by SoulEater7 on Sep 11, 2009 2:14 AM CDT up reply actions

My hope is for Wade

I’ll live with Bosh, but to be honest I’d probably even rather have Amare. I just think he fits better with Rose and is the better (when healthy) athlete.

That being said, Bosh is still probably a top 10 player in the league for the next few years and I would still be ecstatic to have him.

by Rose Colored Goggles on Sep 9, 2009 11:53 AM CDT reply actions

Agreed.

Amare is better than Bosh IMO, and physically is more of a powerhouse. I just like his style of play more than Bosh’s.

by dakoose on Sep 9, 2009 1:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Really?

You prefer Amare over Bosh? Hrm. I think if you put Bosh on some of the Sun’s teams he would have been able to dominate more than he has in exile in Toronto. I understand liking his inside game more, but hasn’t he started to shoot more from the outside recently? And I just question Amare’s mental fortitude, defense, commitment to the game, and his health. I’d be much more scared to pay Amare max $ than Bosh. Wade’s health is the thing that scares me about him as well. And Bosh is much younger… so maxing out an injury free, all-around good guy Bosh at 25 doesn’t scare me like it does for an injury plagued, defensively weak Amare who turns 27 in Nov, or an injury prone Wade who turns 28 in January.

If we didn’t have Rose, I would probably want Wade, and I still go back and forth on Wade-Bosh. But Amare is a solid 3rd option to me now.

by smash! on Sep 9, 2009 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Your points on Amare are valid

I probably should have specified that ideally I would like a healthy, committed Amare more than Bosh. I do have concerns also about Wade playing with Rose (both need the ball to be effective most of the time) but these are concerns/risks that at the moment I’m willing to take.

I think the play of Wade, Bosh and Amare during the 09-10 season will greatly affect my (and everyone’s) evaluation of their potential impact on another team.

by Rose Colored Goggles on Sep 9, 2009 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

I think a Wade-Rose tandum would be amazing

Imagine… both Wade and Rose constantly out running teams by using their superior SPEED. Both players can drive to the basket at will. Both can demand double teams. Wade is Flash A and Rose is Flash B.

A Wade/Rose duo would be a defensive nightmare many… Maybe Wade could also be a mentor to Rose… teach him some tricks or two… Flash molds an… equal.

I hate to call Rose a “sidekick”. He has the physical tools and skills to be a leader. I would like to view Wade and Rose as two nuclear weapons. Weapons the Bulls have at their disposal…

I think Wade and Rose could work. Yes both players need to dominate the ball in order to be effective…

But what if say Rose handled the ball more. Have him bring up the ball in the half-court and set the plays… Since Wade wouldn’t have to handle the ball as much… he could have more energy later in the games and go all out in the fourth quarter.

Wade is a dangerous midrange shooter and has become an decent three point threat. Rose would have a weapon to kick out too when he drives inside…

During the transition… either Wade or Rose is a threat to score with a quick basket while the defense hasn’t had a chance to set up…

During a fastbreak… either is a threat to finish… Wade is one of the best at finishing during the fastbreak…

Wade is an elite defender. He can possibly teach Rose too… then in a couple years we will have TWO elite defenders out in the perimeter…

Now with that idea set… TWO elite perimeter defender… who could score outside? Then clog some good defensive bigs inside… thats a pretty good defensive team right there.

by 420man! on Sep 9, 2009 5:55 PM CDT up reply actions

You had me until...

“Then clog some good defensive bigs inside.” Because then reality set back in:)

by smash! on Sep 9, 2009 6:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Me too.

I would rank them like this:

1. LBJ
2. Wade
3. STAT
4.Bosh
5.Joe Johnson

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

by stupidgenius on Sep 9, 2009 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Kobe is getting older.

Lebron is #1 because he has the highest amount of skill set out of all… and hes the youngest…

by 420man! on Sep 10, 2009 2:03 PM CDT up reply actions

If this is all idealistic, you go with the best player possible, and that's Wade

In reality, going after the guy with the best chance to jump ship and is still young/in his prime would be Bosh.

Amare is the better pick and roll option, shown more ability to be a dominant scorer, but he has no interest in defense, has well-documented ego problems, and has had 2 serious injuries. When you’re going to throw huge money at 1 guy, personality isn’t a huge factor, but it obviously makes a difference as we saw with Corpse.

The 2009 White Sox....like a 40 degree day.

by Ozzie Montana on Sep 9, 2009 1:36 PM CDT reply actions

IMHO...

when you have a shot at a superstar, a Kobe/LeBron/Wade/Dwight Howard…you go for it. Bosh is like the Danny Granger of Power Forwards: talented, no doubt, but unproven both as a winner and as a leader…and he may never be. If they can sign both Wade and Bosh, look out world. But if they can’t get both, they should go with the available (and hometown) superstar.

Rose/Hinrich
Wade/Salmons
Deng/Johnson
Thomas
Noah/Asik

We’d need to et a another decent big, but Damn! that team beats Boston in 7 or less…

by Carlitro on Sep 9, 2009 3:48 PM CDT reply actions

With Wade, there's no Salmons, Hinrich & Thomas...

We might be left with one of them, but not all 3. And we don’t know much at all about Asik, or Johnson for that matter (though I think he’ll at least contribute) so penciling them in right now is a risk. Oh, and there’s no way on earth we could sign both Wade and Bosh so scratch that thought. So what does that leave us with?

Rose-Wade-Deng-Noah… not bad. But there’s still work to do!

You gotta go with talent over position, I agree. The more I look at Bosh’s game, I note he’s not a superstar. He is a tall skinny jumpshooting PF who can rebound well, is a slightly above average defender but has limited post game. I don’t see Bosh drawing a double team. He is a very good player but not a transcendent talent like Wade who can put a team on his back. Wade was surrounded by scrubs, a washed up J ONeal and a confused Beasley and willed that team to the playoffs.

Bosh had more talent on his team but couldn’t even get to 40 wins….I know there were injuries but that’s no excuse.

Amare is a better fit, I used to be against him due to his lack of D and attitude. But offensively he plays with more power, dives to the basket more….can be a decent rebounder. but yeh his work ethic leaves much to be desired, his D is often lackluster and he has a worrisome injury record.

Wade

Knee problems are never a good sign, especially when signing to a max contract

by chapuforyou on Sep 10, 2009 1:12 PM CDT reply actions

He played 80 games last year...

At the very least he has proven that he can stay health at least one season. Let us observe how his health will be this season…

51 the previous two years, though.

by chapuforyou on Sep 11, 2009 8:07 AM CDT up reply actions

In my opinion

we should focus on the following in 2010 FA market in order:
1. Wade (due to we may have a shot since Chicago is where he is from).
2. LBJ (behind Wade because not likely to come to Chicago)
3. Amare Stoudamire (due to he is more likely to leave suns than Bosh raps hesitant due to injury and lack of motivation. But we would have a good chance of getting him)
4. Chris Bosh (I am a bit concerned giving him a max contract but would fit great)
5. Joe Johnson (not a super star but could help us out)
6. Marcus Camby (we need inside help and he will not get the $ he is making now)
7. Dirk Nowitzki (if he opts out is not what we need but a proven scorer)
8. Boozer (not pay him max if that is what he wants pass)
9. Michael Redd (would give us a true SG with talent)
10. Manu Ginobili (not max player but could add maturity and talent)

Dirk Nowitzki

should be above marcus camby and i’d argue over joe johnson too…although i like joe johnson, dirk can actually (if he wanted to i guess) play a little bit inside, while also is a good peremter shooter. Id also move manu over redd….and shouldnt lbj always be number 1?

I agree with you

I put him that low because I don’t actually think he will leave Dallas so I would save some of the effort. But I agree I would rather have Dirk than the two you mentioned.

LBJ not

number one because I don’t think he will leave his team and if he does I bet it is NY or another team that gets him. My list was based on who we could most likely get along with talent. IF it was just based on talent alone i would list it totally different I agree with you there.

More Wade Free Agency News

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4459654

I get the still get the sense that he leaning towards the Heat. But he wants to test the free agency market…

In a sense every team has a chance to make a pitch to him… but ultimately Wades #1 is Miami.

Bulls better start making their case and sending Wade chocolates…

could possibly be the best back court pairing the league has ever seen.

the name of the team is The DIAMONDBACKS

No a Redd fan….he’s a 6’6 BG. Can shoot for days but is average to below average at everything else.

by C Smoove on Sep 11, 2009 10:12 AM CDT reply actions

My list of who we should prioritize to sign

1) Lbj (we arent going to get him at all, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt at least throw an offer out there)
2) D. Wade (shooting guard who can score from all over the court, he isnt a prolific shooter like gordon, but he has a deadly midrange and with him and rose there should be plenty of 3 point plays…THE HARD WAY!)
3) Bosh (he can defend, he can post up even with his lack of bulk, he has a great midrange shot that he can extend furtehr to the 3 if need be, he is a true leader, and he is super young. Many teams are think twice about signing him due to this percieved notion that he is over-rated….the bulls should not be one of those teams!)
4)Amare (offensively he can do what bosh could do but maybe even better, however he is a horrid rebounder, december, and leader. He is worth having ifyou have a coach and player who can demand respect, and i doubt the bulls will. Still his skill level and age puts him up there)
5)Dirk Nowitzki (majoyenrac’s dark house i presume…i hate dirk and condemn him for being the softest player in the nba, still his skill level is up there, and he was once an mvp. He is kinda old though, he can post up fairly well but really just doesnt, he is a good 3 pt shooter and leader, and just his skillset seems to fit in with roses playing style.
6) Joe Johnson (the prototypical sg, he is good all around though he lacks intangibles which would otherwise allow him to be an all-star. Also getting kind of old, adding him to a 2010 rose team would make up the loss of ben gordon but we would still need a consistant post threat. if we got Joe Johnson, we would be ‘one piece away’ for about 3-5 years, after which joe johnson would be worthless…

anything after number 5 should also include the need to pick up another player in the free agent signing, having say a joe johnson and boozer wouldnt be a bad thing, but it would only be a few years of greatness (3-5) before it would need another retooling.

Don't forget the income tax

In Illinois is 3% and Quinn will likely push it to 4.5%. In Florida it is 0%. So our starting offer has to be at least 3% higher just to offer an equal value contract to what Miami offers. This is a BB board, an not meant to be a political discussion…. so I don’t care what you think of the tax, I’m just stating the facts for perspective and to make the point that if Wade is being lured by the $, then he’ll stay in Miami… especially since he’ll get an offer of one more year there that he’ll get anywhere else.

Miami has a good coach, trade assets for deadline deals this season, or cap space once the 1 year contracts come up. I would be shocked if Wade ends up anywhere else.

I say the bulls should try and get the best superstar that they think will actually jump ship. Best case, and most likely, scenario is we make a deadline deal with a team like Toronto or Atlanta because one of those clubs is out of the playoff race and doesn’t believe they can resign their star. Then we’ll have the inside track to sign that player in the off season to a long term deal. If this doesn’t happen, then we have to hope that your entire list of things to happen this season to convince Wade comes true. I’d say there is about a 1% chance of that… or less.

by 72-10 on Sep 14, 2009 10:13 AM CDT reply actions

Do the players really care that much about the tax?

I though what they really considered important was getting paid more than other players who they consider inferior, i.e. salary bragging rights?

Had to Throw My 2 Cents in...

I’ve been saying this since last year, we really should go after one of the bigs hard, STAT or Bosh, then we can scoop up a decent 2 with leftover cash. I don’t see many folks forking up max money for Joe Johnson, Michael Redd, or Ginobli. Hinrich can be used to trade for one those guys. I truly believe that makes us a super contender.

Another thing that I’ve been thinking lately, it isn’t really that far fetched to think we could land LeBron. Even with them bringing in Shaq this year, he still won’t sign his extension. If they don’t win a championship, I think he’s gone. Too much credit is given to the Knicks, LeBron wants championships (PLURAL), the Knicks have no one there to team up with LeBron to make a run. I guess they could get enough money to sign 2 max players, but in this economy, it seems unlikely. The only reason the Nets would be attractive is becuz Jigga (rapper Jay-Z for the uninformed) is a part owner. I haven’t heard anything about the supposed move to Brooklyn, and again looking at rosters, I’d pick Rose, Deng, and Noah over Harris, Lopez, and Yi. PLUS LeBron is a fan of major franchises. Look at his favorites in other sports. Football, he’s a Dallas Cowboy fan. Baseball, he’s a Yankees fan. If u connect the dots, he’s basically a fan of all the teams that were dynasties in the 90’s. And who was more of a dynasty than Jordan and the Bulls.

by Ceasaleo on Sep 22, 2009 3:07 PM CDT reply actions

PLUS....

I’ve read somewhere, can’t remember where but I’ll look for some links, that in his Nike contract he gets a jump in salary if he plays in a major market. Everyone thinks NY when that is said but isn’t Chicago like #2 or 3?… U think Nike execs aren’t drooling at the mouth at the thought of LeBron in Chicago? Any money he may lose out by not resigning with the Cavs can easily be made up from endorsements if he comes to Chicago.

by Ceasaleo on Sep 22, 2009 3:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Lebron is his own brand name

I don’t think that Lebron necessarily needs a huge market to like Chicago to put him over the top when it comes to marketing himself. Hes got his movies, books, and his amazing basketball skills to do all that.

Lebron going to Chicago just doesn’t seem to realistic to me… Hell I could see him going to the Lakers and winning 5 championships with Kobe and Gasol… more so than Lebron going to Chicago and “working” for that first championship ring.

by 420man! on Sep 22, 2009 6:02 PM CDT up reply actions

It’s all about money. Cleveland can pay him more than anyone. The Cavs have built a decent squad around him. He’s not going anywhere. We can’t offer him nearly enough money even if we lose Kirk, Tyrus and Salmons. It’s just not possible.
