Chris Bosh speaking on the type of player he wants to be. This has some relevance to the Bulls considering our 2010 hopes and that he states that he likes where he is and wants to be the guy a team is built around.

For me

This guy should be their main target. I don’t realistically think we have a chance at LeBron and while I think Wade would consider the Bulls, I think in the end he will go back to Miami. Considering Bosh himself would like to be recognized as one of the elite players, Chicago would give him a much bigger spotlight do achieve that than Toronto (when was the last time they were on national tv?).

You don't know what?

About Bosh or the last time Toronto was on national tv?

also

he has a better (or at least better looking) post game than deng, even though he doesnt rely on it too much due to lack of strength, against the bulls he posted up both noah and tyrus quite a bit, finishing strong..

I'm not saying I'm a big Bosh fan either

But calling him a taller Deng is huge slight. He’s a much better player than Deng. He doesn’t disappear, he actually wants the ball when the game is on the line. Looking at what’s out there, he’s a good option as far as I’m concerned. I like Amare’s scoring ability better, but I’m a little concerned with his injury history.

Bosh isn’t a franchise player. That being said, I would still love to have him. Not a dude you can build a champion around but I’m all for just getting good players.

I agree

But he is one of the top players in the league (top dozen or so IMO) and if he really has the desire to be great, I would like to see the Bulls give him that opportunity.

Top 20 yeah, top dozen…not yet. If dude actually learns to play in the post a little more and stops being a 6’10 jumpshooter, then I’ll be happy

Honest question...

Why does it matter?

The only reason I’ve found to play further inside is that you have a higher percentage of geting fouled.

However, at 19% foul rate, Bosh is one of the best in the league at getting to the line. I could only find 3 PF with a higher foul rate in the league last year. Gasol at 21%, Nene at 21%, Okafor at 20%.

http://www.82games.com/0809/FGSORT18.HTM

He’s pretty good at the game he plays. If he changed, the best case scenario is him going to the line a couple more times (19% is about as good as it gets), worst case he goes less since he’s less comfortable in the post, and that’s not his game.

Now the advantages of playing the high post is that he can pick and roll all day, and draw potential shot blockers away from the basket. I think that style of play is perfect for Derrick Rose to get some easier shots. Defenders would have no answer for those two in a pick and pop. Much better for Rose than a player like Shaq or even Howard, who clogs the lane, holds the ball a lot, and is best playing with spot up shooters.

What other reasons?

by runningman on Sep 28, 2009 10:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

To draw a double team. So there are other offensive options that just shooting 3s and jumpshots. When the playoffs come, you gotta have some kind of inside game too, because all the jumpers that come easy in the regular season aren’t so easy to come by when the going gets tough. Also it’s a lot easier to get and 1s playing inside than doing pick and pops all game.

He has a post game as well

It’s still developing sure but he’s good down low.

I certainly don't want to be stuck wtih him at the max hindering any real improvement

If he’s not a guy you can build a champion around….

This year will prove that one way or another….if he leaves he’ll leave only for the max though….we’ll see…

Bosh can post up but yeh only against weaker guys. Same game as KG….all midrange, only posting guys that are weaker than him. Bosh isn’t a guy who should get the maximum but the league today you almost always have to overpay to get talent

by C Smoove on Sep 29, 2009 8:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

So you compare him to KG

but somehow that’s not a good thing? I don’t get it. He’s a very good, potentially great young player that could definitely fit with this team. He may not be a max guy but we aren’t getting one of those guys. At least he is already very good and could blossom into a true max player during the life of his contract.

Seriously, though, you want to build the team around two players?

What does that mean? Isn’t Derrick Rose suppose to be the franchise guy you build around? Isn’t Chris Bosh good enough to be one of those buildy-aroundy guys?

Look at this way: They aren’t going to build around Chris Bosh. Despite what Bosh says, they would be bringing in Bosh as the “1st player”* to be built around Rose.

*Actually, that’d be Deng and Noah, but that’s the exciting part about it.

Good time to post this?

Not that I think he won’t be ready for the season, but that lower body work didn’t save his hamstring.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1977

News: Bosh is expected to miss the start of training camp due to a hamstring injury, the Toronto Sun reports.

Spin: Bosh first injured the hamstring in Dallas last month and subsequently aggravated it again while training in Toronto about a week ago. The injury isn’t expected to be too serious, and Bosh is expected to play in the preseason, although it’s possible he could miss a few games. At this point, fantasy owners shouldn’t feel the need to downgrade Bosh for the upcoming season, although hamstring injuries can often linger.

Bosh - Gasol

I could use one of the stat guys at the site to help me with PERs and such and see if there is any stastical credence to this comparision. But from an eye test…..

Both are really 4s that have great offensive skill but dont like to mix it up in the paint the whole game.
Both arent the ideal defensive bigmen but get 9-10 rebounds a game.
Both demand double teams. ( Bulls biggest need)
Both in a perfect situation are teams second option. (Rose should be 1).

Gasol is the 11th highest paid player in NBA making 16 a year.
Bosh is gonna want the boat contract this offseason which I think is $18 a year.

I think if the Bulls have the oppurtunity to sign Bosh to the max contract its worth it for Bosh. If he can be the Gasol on the Bulls – a top 3 second best player in the NBA ( Rashard Lewis also a top 3 second best is making $19 a year).

Going into this offseason with real NBA #1 option guys out there … Lebron, Wade, I dont think the Bulls should feel robbed paying the max for a top 3 #2 option and to put your hopes that Derrick is a #1 NBA talent from years 3-8 of his career.

not a stat analysis but...

gasol knows every post move in the book, and is more able to (likely to) play in the post, but gasol is definetly softer and is more likely to dissapear in clutch situations. Bosh is more inclined to stay at midrange and take shots, only going to the paint against weaker guys (or outquicking the bigger stronger guys) and seems to have some ability to come through in the clutch. If i were to choose one of the two, i think id still pick gasol over bosh but its not like id be horribly devasted if we picked bosh….also bosh is more available for sure, the lakers arent gonna let gasol go

ya I meant just a comparison

my fault but never intended to say Bosh or Gasol for the Bulls, Gasol is a Laker at least til Kobe is done trying to win Championships.

I still believe my comparison Bosh – Gasol holds true for the type of long, tall, skilled, sorta soft, power fowards who both would be best as the 2nd best player on a team holds true.

I’m in the I want Bosh club and will be making a case for him til trade deadline or next June, this is one of the reasons I like him. I think Bosh( or Gasol in an imaginary world) would really work great as a #2 option as Derrick grows into a super superstar.
