have such high priorities.

Is that a dig at Jordan?
I don’t see where that he had anything to do with this.
Or did you mean Jazz exec?
by runningman on Sep 23, 2009 8:28 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No, he meant Jordan -- the Bobcats exec
He’s saying Jordan should concentrate less on old beefs and “slights” and more on the job he’s currently getting paid to perform — but has not performed very well thus far.

That doesn't make any sense
He shouldn’t have made a hall of fame speech so he can concentrate on his Bobcats duties? What duties would he have performed on speech night? That’s the only participation he’s had in this. The person trying to get the game together is not Jordan, and he’s had no response to it, so for all we know he’s been in an office the entire time before and after the speech doing non-stop Bobcats exec stuff.
If this is criticism of Jordan, it’s poorly thought out criticism.
by runningman on Sep 24, 2009 11:20 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well
he was responding to the comment saying it should be at All-Star weekend (trade-heavy time of year for NBA execs) and that comment from yfBB was probably under the assumption that if Jordan accepted then his priorities would be misplaced.

So, does Jordan accept, refuse or ignore?
I’m not sure any of those three options is a good one for MJ. But he’s gotta take one of ’em.

jordan HAS to Accept
Otherwise he would be something that rhymes with rich and itch.
He called out Russell in his HOF speech, Russell shot back, and now Jordan would just be a punk not to accept.

Yeah, but I don't think he's gonna...
you think Jordan’s still glad he gave the speech the way he did? Does everyone still think it was awesome?
For the record, if he does accept Russell’s challenge it would be friggin’ awesome and classic MJ.

I'm sure Jordan's still glad
he took up baseball.
Just because you or a few writers had regrets about his speech, doesn’t mean he did.
by runningman on Sep 23, 2009 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Perhaps
but he’s still going to look pretty bad if he doesn’t accept this “challenge.” And he’ll also look kind of silly if he does.

Look silly to whom, look pretty bad to whom?
You’re projecting.
If Byron Russell walks up to Jordan wearing a pair of basketball shorts, Jordan will have to acknowledge it, and probably will. Other than that, he’s free to ignore this completely without any repercussions. I doubt the Jazz guy making the offer even has Jordan’s number.
by runningman on Sep 24, 2009 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
To everyone that watched his speech and knows of this "challenge."
Bryon Russell has already signed off on this saying he would do it, so now it’s up to Jordan to accept, decline or ignore. None of those options look good from a PR perspective for MJ.

That's definitely possible
it will only stick with MJ if Russell publicly calls him out on ignoring the offer. Otherwise, you’re probably right, this goes away in a week’s time.

You know what looks good?
Not expecting athletes to give speeches like politicians.
Even renowned class-acts like Hank Aaron are prone to petty statements. People need to get a grip.

If it happens, I doubt it's during halftime of a D-League game in Utah...
But I think MJ ignores it unless it refuses to go away.

Thank you yfBB
for being rational about the whole MJ speech thing. Everyone acts like it was the greatest thing ever just because it was MJ, and “that’s the way he is and how he was so good all those years.” Maybe, but he still looked like a pompous ass. And now he’s got to put up or shut up and it’s a little funny.

I wouldn’t go so far as to thank YFBB for hating MJ’s guts, but his speech was poo IMHO.

Right
and the hyperbole concerning his “competitiveness” that people are spewing in order to defend his speech (MJ can do no wrong of course) is getting ridiculous.
It’s just funny that the whole point of his speech is that he never backed down from anyone who doubted or challenged him — he took on all comers. Guess he must have forgotten that Russell and other people might actually hear this speech and then (:::gasp:::) actually challenge him.
If he ignores the challenge, isn’t that the same as backing down?

not to say you can't post on Jordan
but it’s been a bit much lately. Though that’s what he wanted in his grandstanding speech, to keep himself relevant.

That evil Jordan guy
inviting himself to the hall of fame and changing the rules so that he gives a speech, when no one else gets to give one. He probably kidnapped the media’s kids and made them televise his speech and write about it afterwards.
It’s all a conspiracy to force the Bulls blog owner to acknowledge his existence during the basketball offseason!

Michael Jordan doesn't play for the Bulls... profound!
still I wager without ever a michael jordan this blog would be equavelent of Clips Nation or like the timberwolves blog!

Yes, this is a BULLS blog
not a Michael Jordan blog. I love MJ as much as the next Bulls fan for what he did for our team and our city. But shit, are we not allowed to call the guy out when he does something questionable?
