Bulls Schedule Leaked

[Note by your friendly BullsBlogger, 08/04/09 10:29 AM CDT: Original FanShot is below. Some sleuths found the pdf of the Bulls schedule, but it's since been taken down. I'll just run with it as the official schedule, if it's not...well that'd be good too, since the opening stretch is as tough as usual. If only we could watch an actual contending team and not worry about schedule quirks! -ed.]

When even a 50-32

projected record has the Bulls going 6-9 through the end of November, something’s wrong.

Isn’t it about time something is done about the “circus trip”? What a way to kill momentum by getting off to a horrible start every single year then having to dig out of a hole.

i’m sure everyone did the same as me, and figured about 3-6 before the damn circus trip. there’s the problem. first two games against one of the top two teams from each conference? one whopping two game home stand in the first nine? ridiculous!

I agree...

Who the F*** makes this schedule year in and year out? Is it a former player that got whipped by the Bulls during the glory years or something??? The schedule has been this way for the past couple of years and should be changed seems a little unfair.

35-40 wins again.Had we had Ben Gordon we’d go for 50.This team has to rely on the Hinrich maneuver and Luol Deng’s legs.

Rose will carry these veterans on his back for yet another mediocre season.

Wow

Ben Gordon is not that valuable, yo act like theres no one at the 2 spot, like theres only 4 players on the court..
Salmons isnt that much worse than Ben G, relax, we got this.

"Game 7 of the 2011 Finals.. 10 seconds left in the game, the score is tied up 92-92.. Kobe with the ball he drives in.. IS BLOCKED by bosh, Rose picks it up Runs it down Throws up a pass to Wade.. WADE SCORES! GAME OVER ! BULLS WIN BULLS WIN!"

by Faizamaze on Aug 4, 2009 2:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Salmons will be the chucker everyone THOUGHT BG was.

I can’t wait for his jab step and slo-mo three point attempts wowing the UC. And he will be slow on defense against SGs. Now if Salmons was coming in as the SF like last season he’d be much more manageable. He’d be the third scoring option instead of the second and against guys he has the speed to guard. The Bulls seem to always find ways of putting their guys into positions where their weaknesses show.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Aug 4, 2009 7:47 PM CDT up reply actions

despite that worry, I still prefer Salmons as a SG and not a SF

since he basically does nothing but score, I feel that’s masked better at the two.

it does seem inevitable, doesn't it?

I’m glad we have bargain-basement assistants to take over. Well, Bickerstaff is a former head coach, but I bet he’s too old by now to take the head chair, especially in a do-nothing season.

The brief glimpses of Pete Myers head coaching trials were not pretty. To screamy and veteran-y. Though I guess we are a pretty veteran team now regardless.

Hmm, Spurs-Bulls not one I'd have picked for opening night.

Is there some history or fun connection there that I’m forgetting about?

But I am glad we play opening night – I hate the wait. And I’m really glad we’re not playing on Halloween this season, because it kind of ruins the fun of handing out candy when I’m cursing out (mentally, of course) the kids for ringing the bell right at the most exciting game moments.

it actually looks to me like we'll have to wait longer than usual

if i recall correctly, opening night is always that tuesday, with basically every team in the league playing that wednesday. we’re the unlucky ones relegated to a thursday start time, although as i said above, i imagine we’ll be rewarded with a national tv appearance for the spurs game, and probably the celts game too.

by Calogero on Aug 4, 2009 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions

Ah, OK - thanks for the correction

I guess I mistook the original opening title for The opening night, not just Bulls first game. That seems unusually early for the schedule to start, but the sooner the better. August really sucks with it’s total lack of anything NBA-ish, and I’ve already watched the handful of games I saved 5 or 6 times each.

Now I can gripe about having to wait 2 extra days for meaningful basketball instead.

this Bulls team won’t be truly bad, I think it’s impossible. They also won’t be truly good.

So should I just root for them to be farther on the bad scale, since hate fuels me and I want to mock the front office? I mean they’ll likely win enough games either way, I’m trying to aim for entertainment value here.

Root for Derrick Rose to make the All-Star Team

and for Joakim to lead the league in rebounding. Also, for BG to average somewhere between 35 and 40 points per game (on a team that wins no more than 25 games).

That’s my plan. I would also like some really embarrassing news about Jerry Reinsdorf to surface somehow.

An attempt to make the glass half-full

Here is something to make you happy. It appears BaB is ahead of the curve regarding knowing the Bulls schedule. This is on Yahoo.

NEW YORK (AP)—The NBA has fined three teams an undisclosed amount for leaking details of their schedules before the league released them.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves were penalized, an official with knowledge of the decisions told The Associated Press on Monday. The official requested anonymity because the fines weren’t publicly announced.
The NBA will release its 2009-10 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The league forbids teams to release any details before then.

This team is one injury away from complete suckitude

If we lose Rose, Hinrich, Deng or Salmons for a real stretch of the season, I think we’re pretty hosed.

I think the guys to root for this season are Rose, Noah and JJ, because they’re the only guys I really count on being here beyond next year.

by Sports2 on Aug 4, 2009 12:59 PM CDT up reply actions

You consider all of Rose, Hinrich, Deng and Salmons so critical to the Bulls success

Next season that you believe an injury to any of them leads to suckitude? I agree that an injury to an of those guys will hurt the team, outside of Rose, I think the team will carry on just fine the absence of one of those guys…

Why would you count on JJ being here beyond next year?

" I've looked at these numbers and decided the #1 problem

by Dionysus2.0 on Aug 4, 2009 1:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, pretty much

Hinrich or Salmons hurt for an extended time = big minutes for Pargo and/or Hunter.
Deng hurt = big minutes for Pargo and/or Hunter unless JJ really plays great out of the chute.

JJ is our first round pick. He’s on a relatively cheap rookie scale deal. Unless he totally blows, he’s going to get 3-4 years here.

by Sports2 on Aug 4, 2009 1:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Interesting...

I see your point with the injuries, but I temper my expectation of suckitude. While its not ideal if Pargo plays minutes, I don’t think 20 minutes a night from him means instant suckitude…just mediocrity. I see suckitude if two of those players are injured and we are forced to play Pargo minutes along with either of the two rooks…

I don’t share your opinion about JJ or the other rook Taj…I think either one could be trade fodder at the deadline, especially if the Bulls make a deal with a team looking for expirings + young talent…the only player I count on being here beyond next year is Rose…IMO, no one else on this roster has shown they compliment Rose to the point they are expendable…

predicting the national tv schedule:

a real easy way to do this is just to isolate all the thursday games and assume we’ll be on TNT that night. early in the season it looks like we’ll be on TNT almost every thursday- the 29th vs the spurs, the 5th at the cavs, the 19th at the lakers, and the 26th at the Jazz. It’s also probably a pretty safe bet that opening friday october 30th we’ll be on ESPN against the Celtics, with the hype being “a rematch of last year’s classic first round series,” only to see us go out and lose by 30.

by Calogero on Aug 4, 2009 11:13 AM CDT reply actions

rest of the thursday schedule:

december 17th vs the knicks (this matchup doesnt look national tv worthy though)
december 31st at detroit (although TNT might not have thursday games considering it’s new years eve)
january 14th at boston (i guarantee this is a TNT game)
March 4th vs. Memphis (again, looks suspicious since it doesn’t appear national tv worthy)
March 11th at Orlando
March 25th vs Miami
April 8th vs Cleveland

the last three appear strong bets for TNT games

The circus is a killer

But, as usual, the Bulls will have an eas(ier) schedule post All-Star break to atone for getting owned by the elite teams in the West, thought the last month isn’t a creampuff like it was last season.

Personally, I’m eager to see whether the Bulls can save Vinny’s job through December by staying no more than 2-3 games under .500. I’m gonna go ahead and predict Vinny is fired before the New Years Eve game.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

by Ozzie Montana on Aug 4, 2009 12:03 PM CDT reply actions

That first month is going to absolutely murder this team.

I predict 5-10 in the first 15 games and another season spent fighting to get back to .500 before making a late push to just eek over it.

Make no mistake about it, this is a team whose absolute ceiling is 50-52 wins (healthy and good Kirk, 06-07 Deng returning to form, and the Sacramento vets playing as well as they finished last year). Throw in an injury or two (even short term ones) and they become a fringe playoff team / lotto team in a heart beat.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

by fundamentallysound on Aug 4, 2009 12:17 PM CDT reply actions

The first month is brutal

I would be happy with anything more than 5 wins…

I think 50 wins would be a stretch even with a perfectly healthy team all season…but injuries will happen, not only to the Bulls, but to other teams in the league…I really cannot imagine this will be a lottery team unless there are multiple injuries to rotation players…

Bulls.com has the schedule up now as well

They’re playing 13 games on national TV. For some godforsaken reason we have to watch the Bulls open the season with back-to-back nationally televised games against the Spurs and Celtics.

Other national games are against LA, Utah, Phoenix, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, 3 times against Cleveland, and twice more against Boston.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

Also worth noting . .
Chicago’s first action of the preseason will start on Oct. 2 at Indiana, when they face the Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The Bulls will then travel to London, where they will play the Utah Jazz on Oct. 6 at The O2, as part of NBA Europe Live presented by EA SPORTS.

The game marks Chicago’s first trip to Europe since the Bulls participated in the McDonald’s Championship in Paris in 1997.

Other preseason home dates include contests with Milwaukee on Oct. 13, Minnesota on Oct. 16, Orlando on Oct. 19 and Washington on Oct. 23. Chicago’s preseason road schedule rounds out with a game in Green Bay, Wis., against Milwaukee on Oct. 10, and a tilt at Minnesota on Oct. 14.

Does anybody else think there are a lot of back to backs...

It looks like they have 20 of those this season…that seems rough to have nearly 25% of your schedule to be back to backs…the schedule makers were not kind this season.

That sounds really bad

But, I just checked last season’s schedule, and they had 21 back-to-backs. So, maybe it’s just a common occurrence we don’t really think about?

Hm

This is interesting. No Christmas game or St. Patricks day game against the Celtics. I have to go to the Bulls-Pistons games.

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

awww, no new years even home game this season???

lame. especially if it was still bulls pistons. that would be an awesome new years eve game…

after last year's NYE game at home

I’m not sure it’s a good idea anymore. We got killed by like 40 points.

I always feel bad for the crowd when that happens

it’s like the Bulls are ruining peoples enjoyment of the holiday.

I guess if you get drunk enough

you won’t remember the beatdown the next day.

That’s why I always keep a flask on me, to forget things on a minute to minute basis.

It may not be technically,

but I think for most people it’s a bigger event than the actual New Year’s Day. (Especially now that the college bowl system is out of control and the championship is several days later).

In honor of the dearly departed, I declare July PB&J month - everyone raise a sandwich to the memory of Ben!

oh, i certainly remember

it was the one time in the past several years i didn’t come home for new years. i had been to the past several nye games…

We beat San Antonio on our opening night . Mark it down. JJ punches Jefferson in the face.

by Trey23 on Aug 4, 2009 6:40 PM CDT reply actions

I forgot that the Spurs have Jefferson

they’re an even better team than they were last year.

San Antonio will destroy us, while Vinny tries to figure out how many minutes to give Pargo and JJ, and how many minutes to play Deng at PF (matching up against Duncan).

in the game thread

I plan on starting a running count of how many times Parker blows by Rose and gets into the paint

left shark - "Kirk needs to go and join Ben Gordon and L Deng somewhere else trade Deng and Hinrich they no good"

Then, I'll keep track of how many layups Duncan has

Plus, I’ll also keep the running tally of “Why didn’t we draft DeJuan Blair” when Taj Gibson gets posterized by Matt Bonner in the waning seconds of a 90 point blowout.

Goddamnit we need Ben, and Fuck you Luol Deng!

Not at the UC. We took out numerous teams at home last year. Cleveland, Houston, Denver. How is an older Duncan, Ginobli, and Matt Bonner gonna destroy us? Please.

I actually like...

getting some of the good teams early; but seriously what fucking brutal schedule.

by Super-Structure on Aug 4, 2009 9:45 PM CDT reply actions

by regui8er on Aug 6, 2009 1:26 PM CDT reply actions

no big deal

this is all bull it doesn’t matter what their schedule is Bulls will play hard only in March and April in order to make the playoffs as usual in John Paxson era
